I can't speak to the Sheraton, but I've stayed at La Concha and loved it. We didn't have our kids with us on that trip, but they would have enjoyed it (beach or not). The hotel was unique and the staff friendly. There was always water with citrus slices available in the lobby, which we partook of frequently because we walked or took the city bus even when it was hot. At the time (not sure if it is still there) we loved a restaurant down the road called Miro (spelling?) for grilled seafood and the best sangria we've ever had.

Thanks for the replies so far. Carnival is one option, as is the MSC Divina (but I don't know anyone who has cruised with MSC).

We will be flying, as we live in Indiana. Most likely sailing out of a Florida port, but possibly San Juan, PR.

My wife and I have cruised with Royal Caribbean several times and are now ready to take our children (8 & 10) on their first cruise. We've felt special and pampered on the past cruises we've been on and love RC, but are questioning if we should switch to another line for this trip to save on the cost (and thereby have more money for future college costs and future retirement). I'm afraid that the switch could be like leaving Disney World to go to the county fair.
Can anyone who has cruised with RC and other lines give me your opinion on the matter?

I'd check out the Adventure sailings out of San Juan. There are some great islands represented and not too many days at sea. I've never sailed on the Adventure (I will in January) but have sailed out of San Juan a few times and loved it.

I've met Nick a couple of times when he lived on Antigua and have a house full of his artwork (all island scenes or of people from the islands). So I was excited to check out the museum when I was on a cruise last year, even though I have a short attention span. My wife and I spent about 45 minutes going through it and then some time afterward talking with Nick (who is extremely warm - the first time I met him he offered to take me racing on his sailboat) and having pieces signed and dedicated to our children.
If you enjoy movie history or the process that goes into making movies, then you will probably find it to be well worth your time and money.
