  1. Hi Groucho:

I've not actually been in a solo, but we are signed up for one next year and I've been researching. My understanding is that the lounge is great for meeting people, and the singletons will often go in a group for dinner, shows, etc.

Wine is not included in the fare, but if you kept the alcohol package as part of your free at sea, that should cover it.

    Have fun!

  2. Solo balconies and solo ocean views are not inside the studio area, but do give you access. So you can still go in and meet with the group, get your latte from the machine, or attend the bar events.

Our trip next year on the Getaway does have my friend and I in adjoining cabins in the studio area. If you are not traveling with someone, you probably want to avoid these cabins as there are noise considerations from the other cabin. However, a towel at the base of the adjoining door supposedly helps mute this.

  3. Yes, they will be available as part of your documents close to the sailing date.

He may also get a set in the mail (mine have been hit or miss.) And worst case scenario, you can always fill one out at the port if you leave the printed ones behind/don't have a printer.

Hope he has a good time - try to join him! 😄

She will be sailing in the Haven for the rest of her life with all of the money she will make. Senior NCL management flying out to see her... trying to keep her from suing NCL. Several 10's of millions there. Sue the medical center (which is a contract business, not run by NCL). Sue the talent acquisition firm who resourced the crew member to NCL for failing to check him. Sue the individual for whatever insurance money he has.

Are you sure about that? The cruise ships are not American and I'm not sure people have many "rights" to sue like they would in the USA and other countries. I think they protect themselves very, very well from litigation, and there are not the lawsuits for wrongful death, assault, rape, etc., that maybe there should be.

Not an expert, and definitely not a lawyer, but they protect themselves from so much liability it would not surprise me if we are all signing away lawsuit rights.

  5. There is always (in my limited experience) a dining room open, although the crew may say there is not, and herd you towards the buffet.

But our arrival tradition is get on early and go relax with a nice lunch in the main dining room. We grab a nice cocktail or soda on our way in, and enjoy!

When you get on ask "Which is serving lunch - Savor, Taste, or the Manhattan Room?"

  6. I was on the Sun in August, so not a Breakaway class ship, but I will never do the 5th floor again. Very loud engine noise. We like low as possible for motion sickness avoidance, but I will never book without cabins both below and above me. It was unrelenting. Still a great cruise, but that was the one mar.

Yes, you will.  You may be several decks above or below the deck with the lounge if that matters to you

It does, but I just booked a solo balcony on the 10th deck, same as my friends in the studios. Very excited! Of course, according to my account on NCL, I have only 533 days to go!! Grrrr. 😄

    Thank you!

I thought it was supposed to be a word picture.  Who knew?

I forget how picky Dali can be about storing pics. Anyway, this was in response to the comment about not seeing bears and raccoons in thongs in the nationals parks. Hopefully this picture sticks, because it was one of my better AI efforts. 🙂

  9. Is there any chance you are travel in one of the "solo" cabins? If so, you have access to the Studio Lounge which has an espresso machine and makes things like cappuccinos. (No idea of quality.) All included with solo rooms.

That's what I'm doing because I can't drink $13 worth of coffee per day, and I'm pretty much a non-drinker at this point. If I decide I need Starbucks or a Mudslide or a soda, I'll just buy them, but most of my coffee needs, and thus most of my needs, are met. (Another benefit to being single and not willing to share with others. :D)

    Have a blast!

I have booked a solo balcony on Prima and have been told that the solo lounge access is included!

From the ncl website reading the description for category BT (solo balcony) "These spacious staterooms include a queen-size bed, sitting area and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a private balcony. Staterooms are priced exclusively for solo travelers and include access to the private Studio Lounge."

    Thank you DorothyB!

  11. Hi Everyone:

There is a group of us singletons planning a trip on the Getaway, and right now we have 5 studio cabins booked. However, the solo balcony is a really good deal and I am tempted to book one instead. But would I still have access to be with my friends in the studio lounge? I.e. would my card allow me in the lounge?

I've read conflicting reports, so I thought I'd bring it to the experts! All advice/knowledge gratefully accepted.

    Hey all!

I know some of you know I was on this cruise as well and are wondering where my review is. So I  wanted to give you an update:

My Alaska pictures have taken longer than expected (4500+) to edit. I am almost done with them, so expect to see that review shortly. I will post a link here! Sorry for the delay!

    Matthew

    Looking forward to it.

There's always a chance for a last minute cancellation.  You really won't know on those sold out categories until the week of (or even the day of, in some cases!).  We had to cancel a Haven 2 br. in January 3 days before sailing, due to illness and then passing of my FIL.  The Haven had been sold out.  So someone got an upgrade last minute.

Good luck with your bidding!  Always book where you are happy to stay, and if you get the upgrade, it's just a bonus!

Sorry about your loss and the missing of the cruise. 😞

  14. How does the complimentary ice cream work?

Well, the first day it doesn't seem like it does.

The second day you realize it is hard at work when it takes a little more effort to get your pants buttoned.

By day four it is hard at work expanding your lower stomach and equalizing that increase through your hips.

And finally, in an extreme burst of productivity, it settles into the space below your chin where it lingers for weeks after you return home.

It continues its hard work, until you massively step up your workload. A very efficient worker bee that doesn't "cost" you a dime.

    😉

Cruise ships in Seattle tend to arrive between 5:30 A.M. and 6:00 A.M.  Both The Edgewater Hotel (next door to the cruise terminal) and The Waterfront Marriott (acroos the street) have rooms overlooking Elliott Bay so you can watch the ship come in.

    Enjoy your cruise

If you stay at the Edgewater you can fish out of your room. Just like those four long-haired Brits did back in the 60's.

Why would you use the Amazon holders for the NCL provided tags?

Because people might want a removable tag holder. I was just making an observation from looking at the product.
