Can anyone explain the “Friends of Bill W.”?
-
We enjoyed the World Cafe while on both the Sun and the Star. There was a variety of choices for each meal, food was good and it was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. After a busy day, it was an easy way to have a wonderful meal.

Sorry about the salon error. I was just on the Sea and I thought they said they could do it. My mistake!
-
Yes, polo shirts are fine and many men wear them in the dining rooms. The nail salon is full service.

We just returned from a Viking Sea trip. Our OBC was applied to our gratuities.

Quick question. We are 2couples, we have made our reservations for each restaurant but could only make them for a party of two. Do we need to advise restaurant that we need a TABLE for 4 prior to our reservation. Thanks
We had the same situation and we simply went to the restaurants the first chance we had and asked them to combine our reservations to a table for 4. They were very accommodating.

They change their menu every 3 days. The menus are listed on the el tropic boards near the elevators. You can also view a printed copy at the desk at the World Cafe. I don’t know if they will change out a menu item.

I found the coffee for the coffee maker very strong, which is not what I like. I just went down to 1 ("Living Room" midship - very convenient) for coffee. Of course, you DO have to get dressed to do that....
For safety reasons, some cruise lines don't allow things like coffee makers. Not sure about Viking, but why bother?!
It’s the getting dressed part that I don’t like;p. This just may turn into a job for hubby!

I understand that there are no coffee makers in V1 rooms. Other than room service or going into the public areas to grab that first morning cup, has anyone brought their own small coffee maker and if so, what brand?

I love the noodle idea! We were on the Sun Oct. 25 til Nov. 6th and used both pools. Big pool was comfortable and weather was sunny. Infinity pool was warm and not uncomfortable on a windy day. It is a deep pool, but the view out the back “window” is pretty neat and it must be tried!

Explorer Lounge! Don't miss the spa and snow grotto. We went everyday and loved it!
2nd floor of the Explorers Lounge. It’s serene and peaceful.in fact, the first time I ventured up there, 2people were fast asleep laying on th couches! Others were reading and chatting.

Does anyone have any input on what type of oatmeal, muesli and granola are offered?
Specifically---I love fluffy steel cut oats as opposed to regular 'porridge' oatmeal.
I know I am being picky on this.
The muesli was very good. I’ve not had the oatmeal or the granola. There is a lot of fruit offered, Greek yogurt, bagels, English muffins, a bran cereal, hard boiled eggs and eggs prepared anyway you like. Hope this helps.

We had the same issue. We are now ten days out and I decided to call Viking and merge the dinner reservations with another couple we are sailing with. They merged our two two-table reservations into a single four-top.
We are now on the Sun. We stopped at Manfredis the first night and merged our reservations with our friends and it worked out fine.

I’m on the Sun right now and knitting to my little hearts content.

My Guest Statement from Viking says the time of the Port Arrival and the Port Departure times for each destination. Is the Port Departure time the time we need to be back to the ship, or is it the time the ship leaves the dock? If the ship departs at 6:00pm, then what time do they want us back to the ship? I'm a first time cruiser so I really thank you all for your informative posts. :)

If you are retired military there are Freedom Lounges in most airports. They have food, drinks, reading material, games and beds.

I have emailed CC to add our cruise to the Roll Call and the Meet and Mingle. Hope they do it sooner than later!
-
Cabster19- My husband and I are on this cruise and are very excited about it. This will be our very first cruise ever! We chose it for the ports and the length of the cruise.
-
We are in the process of deciding on a cruise. The excursions look to be pretty pricey. We will probably sign up for some, but is there a way to see the port of call on your own? This will be our first cruise ever!:)

My understanding is that we have zero chance of a refund from Viking if the boats don't sail. And I believe that Viking, like an airline, will tell us only what they absolutely have to and at the last possible minute. The attitude of most cruisers is that the operators are not responsible for Acts of God and we should just suck it up; I disagree. They, not I, are in the business so the risk should fall on them. If something reasonably approaching a river cruise is not going to be delivered then the consumer should be given the choice of canceling without penalty.
I agree with you, Cal7. I think Viking and the other cruise lines are taking complete advantage of their passengers. They advertise a river cruise and don't deliver. Some passengers have been bussed on 6 hour round trips!I think what they're doing with this situation is despicable. We cancelled a future cruise with Biking and are rethinking the whole idea.

We booked it directly with Viking and received travel documents about 30 days prior to departure. We looked at the book they send which lists each day as Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc. so we thought everything was in order. It showed we left and returned on the dates they had told us on the phone and on our confirmation. It was only when we compared Viking's Day 1 to a calendar that the error surfaced.
Besides, we should be able to review the documents whenever we wish. Viking should not have made this error. They market themselves as experts and professionals and they didn't even come close.

If Viking Air makes your airline reservations, check them out carefully. They had us flying to Prague then taking a 3-1/2 hour bus ride to Nuremberg. They also had us leaving one day earlier than our pre-trip began. This left us with no transfer to Nuremberg from Prague and no hotel room our first night in Nuremberg. They told us to find and pay for our own lodging for that night and to arrange for our own airport transfer.
We discovered these errors when we took our Viking Itenary book that lists everything as "Day 1, Day 2, etc" and began typing out our own itinerary with our own dates. It eventually was corrected, but we were very nervous when VCR responded to our email that they would answer us within 10 days when your cruise leaves in 3 days and phone calls were not returned in a timely fashion.
Be very careful.

Anybody on the Danube now? If so, how are the river levels? Are the Viking ships sailing or are they moored and moving passengers about on buses?
