  1. This thread is awesome. We have traveled all over and I have found that cleaning my closet before a trip works great. During the year I keep a bin of clothes to give away. When it is time to pack I go through the bin and use what items I can. I usually discard/give away these clothes as I go-mostly at the end since I re-wear most outfits. Then, I have room for any items we have picked up. My friends have started 'donating' to my bin. This past year a friend donating a great pair of nike tennis shoes. I texted her pictures from every country her shoes walked in!

Also Lululemon and Athletica have great traveling pants. They are light weight and tie so they can be capris or pants. These I keep. Comfy long haul pants are hard to find!!

  2. We are doing the Amsterdam to Basel trip. It is not an 'official' multigenerational trip. The only trip of this kind I have seen is the uniworld family trip. We booked rooms next to one another. One adult and one child in the rooms. We didn't feel it necessary to book the family trip and it was only for one specific week. Our kids were never the kids club type, so we really don't need those types of amenities . Many people discourage children on river cruises, but I feel it is an individual decision based on your family and how you enjoy to travel together.

  3. We have a multigenerational Viking river cruise booked for next summer. Grandparents, parents and grandkids. The youngest is 10. We have traveled all over the world together. It's a great way to spend family time together. We went on a previous river cruise and the kids had a good time.

  4. This is a balcony cabin that overlooks an outside bar one deck below. If you wanted any privacy out there, you won't have any. It is also the smoking section, so you could smell cigar and cigarette smoke.

We didn't know when we booked. It didn't bother us too much, but I definitely wouldn't book again. We booked our cruise one week out and took only cabin left.

This arrangement is the same for the opposite side of ship too. Bar extends about 5 to 6 cabins long.

Hope this helps someone out there!
