  1. Just booked this cruise. Looking forward to finally setting foot on the Antarctic Continent. Hope to connect with others before sailing -- to compare notes. We are also active on the November 2016 sailing of the Midnatsol.

We sailed into Antarctica on the Star Princess in January 2009 but could not set foot on the continent. The scenery was awesome -- no surprise there.

Hope to hear from others in the near future. Gene and Xiomara

  2. After much discussion, we have decided to cancel our booking with Gate 1 for a Volga River cruise from St. Pete to Moscow. I have been to St. Pete twice before and my wife has been once.

As we haven't been to Moscow before, we will be substituting a land-only Gate 1 tour to Moscow, probably in late September. We will also, on our own, make side trips to Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad & Minsk (Belarus).

Thank you for your input. Gene

  3. This past July, we booked a St. Petersburg to Moscow cruise with Gate 1 - embarking the MS Zosima Shashkov in St Pete on September 3rd, 2016 and disembarking in Moscow on September 13, 2016.

We are now thinking of booking a Moscow to Astrakhan Volga River cruise with Express to Russia on the MS K. Korotkov - embarking the ship on September 16, 2016 and disembarking in Astrakhan on September 28, 2016.

After reading the previous postings on this board, I'm wondering if this is such a good idea.. Any comments will be welcome.

  4. I've been on 3 big ship and 2 small ship cruises into Glacier Bay and will be cruising into the Bay again on Monday, June 11th, aboard the Sapphire Princess. It has got to be one of the most beautiful & serene places in the world!!!

Our family will be taking one of the 10 day cruises out of San Francisco next year -- but am disappointed to see that Glacier Bay is not included. Instead, we'll be seeing Tracy Arm for the first time.

One thing 4 of us did in 1987 was to hire a small plane in Juneau and fly over to Glacier Bay to see it from the air. It was a fantastic flight as it was sunny the whole time!! The next day, when we cruised into the bay, it was overcast and we couldn't see the tops of the peaks that surround the bay.

  5. Hi Bobbie:

We did the above on our own, for far less than Princess was offering. We took the train to Taormina (very inexpensive) and a taxi up the hill from the Taormina train station to the town itself. It's a beautiful little town. Then we walked down a zigzag walking trail from the town back to the train station. Enjoy!! Gene
