  1. Hi,

In March we took our first ever Uber from MIA to Port of Miami around 9:30am and it was $29. plus tip. That was for UberX for 2 adults with 2 carryons.

On the return we took a taxi for ease, and that was $50. plus tip (seemed expensive ?) I wish it were still a flat rate but it’s not.

  2. Hi,

I think you are correct in it being due to the fluctuating dollar. In February we paid $331 CAD per person for Vibe passes on the Joy March 11th cruise. I calculate that to be an exchange rate of about $1.33.

At the end of our cruise, our $284 US on board account ended up at $401 CAD, that’s an exchange rate of about $1.40ish.

But yes, I can remember hearing the Vibe used to be $99 pp. pre-Covid.

This was our first time buying them because they could be purchased ahead of the cruise. We are now Vibe converts. Definitely worth it.

    Enjoy your upcoming cruises.

  3. Thank you for taking the time to do this review. I’ve enjoyed your previous reviews also. I’m especially interested as we’ll be on the Joy in 2 1/2 weeks.

You’ve just made my day by saying there’s a crepe station on this ship!! I didn’t know that.

The room you were assigned would not be good with children, but you’re a very positive person and I’m sure you’re holiday only got better from there.

    Thanks again.

  4. I LOVE GSC because I love a beach day. Beautiful white sand and lots of lounge chairs!!
Last time we were there, we went past the main beach and past the bar to a nice smaller beach area that was quiet. If I remember correctly , it was the third beach area. There was even a server who came around for drink orders.

I wish NCL would build a dock here instead of having to tender though. It’s such a shame, in my opinion, when you have to miss this stop because of wave or wind conditions.

  5. Thank you for taking time out of your vacation to do this review. I always enjoy how your reviews are so full of information, and I LOVE reviews with lots of pictures.

I would love to do a cruise out of New York as it would be an easy flight from our closest airport of Toronto, but I’m nervous to cruise on the Getaway again. We were on her in 2015 and I had motion sickness a couple of days going from Miami to the Eastern Caribbean. We have since been on Escape twice, Bliss, Breakaway and Epic and I had no sea sickness.

In your experience, do you feel the Getaway rocks any more than other NCL ships?

    Thank you.

  6. Thank you for taking questions.

We will be on Joy in March and I’m curious about the availability of sun bathing space. There is no longer the public space outside Vibe and apparently Spice H2O is smaller on this ship than others.

We prefer to lounge in Spice H2O as it is quieter than the main pool.

Did Spice look crowded? Was the main pool area packed?

    Thank you again.

  7. Hi,

I cannot comment on the camera issue, but in regards to beach excursions I can give this recommendation.

Many years ago on this site, I learned of a beach bag called KYSS. Stands for “keep your stuff safe”. When going to a beach we use this bag. It comes with a built in chain and lock to wrap around something solid, such as lounge chair or palapa. We use it as our beach/towel bag when on a cruise or land vacation. On all inclusive beach vacations, we lock it to a palapa and can go for a swim or a walk.

Check out their website if your interested. They are pricey but gives me peace of mind.

  8. Hi,

I’m going on the Joy in March so am also curious.

According to the Joy’s deck plan shown on the NCL website, there is a public sun area outside Vibe. I haven’t been on Joy yet, but have been on Escape and Bliss that had a similar area with its own bar and hot tub.

There is also a Spice H2O on the Joy which is usually a nice quiet place to sun as well.

  9. Hello,

The NCL website shows 2 different layouts of deck 17 sun deck on the deck plans. One shows public space on the left with Vibe on the right. The other layout shows NO public space and Vibe is both sides. I’ve seen this before, but there was a before and after date.
I just got off a chat with an NCL rep but they weren’t understanding my question.
Wonder if anyone was on the Getaway prior to the world hitting pause that could answer this.

Looking at booking a cruise to Bermuda in April or May, either the Joy or Getaway. (Want to take advantage of the triple Latitude points)

    Thank you for your help

  10. Hi,

We have pre-paid for shore excursions on two different cruises now. At the end of that day, the $50 showed on our onboard account as a credit. We normally don't charge anything else to our accounts and the shore excursion credit DID come off of our daily service charge total.

  11. Hi,

Several years ago, on our first visit to Grand Cayman, we took a taxi van from the pier to the "public beach" section of 7 Mile Beach and then walked the beach back to the ship. You can rent loungers and umbrellas there if you choose. There was a restaurant/snack bar there, but I cannot comment on it as we did not eat there.

When we realized we could see the cruise ships from there, we decided to walk the beach all the way back to the pier.

We would walk a bit, then put our towels down on the sand and swim for a bit.

The beach ends before the pier, and we just cut through a hotel parking lot and walked the rest of the way back on the road.

We are going back next month and plan to do this exact thing again.

Perhaps you could check tripadvisor for restaurant suggestions? I'm sure there are lots near the ship pier.

To answer your question, yes you could walk from the pier to the beginning of 7 Mile Beach, we just did it in reverse.

    Hope this helps.

  12. Thank you for offering this before your cruise. The Escape is a wonderful ship and you will enjoy it. We were on last October and are going again in September.

    1. Could you please post the dailies?

    2. Are you considering doing the Escape Room? Curious about that.

    3. Would love to hear your experience on the ropes course. I am 55 and a little overweight. I wanted to do it on the Escape but chickened out even without taking a closer look. I want to do it but not sure how physically hard it will be.

Thanks again and have a wonderful cruise!!!

  13. Thank you all for your replies.

We have been to several cruise ports throughout the Caribbean so I do expect there to be people selling things as thats how they make their living. I am not being paranoid, just asking as I've read many reviews and looked at several youtube videos and there doesn't appear to be much outside the pier gates. From what I've read, most cruise passengers either do a tour of some sort or stay on the ship. I haven't been able to find much about walking outside the pier area.

  14. While researching things to do in Roatan, I discovered the Made in Roatan store. I would like to visit during my upcoming cruise but am not sure if the area outside the cruise pier is safe to walk. Apparently you turn right upon exiting the pier entrance and the store is 300 metres up the road.

    Has anyone walked this?

I understand there will be many trying to sell tours and many taxis but is it calmer once you get past that?

    Thank you for your help.

  15. Hi.

We visited Tortola while on the NCL Getaway last October. As you come off the ship you'll notice several safari busses lined up. Speak with the taxi dispatchers and they will point you to a bus. We paid $20 per person for around 4 hours. This included 45 minutes to cool off in Cane Garden Bay Beach. There was a few stops for photo ops and lots of information given by our driver "Miss Kitty".

Only regret was that we didn't leave the ship till after 9 and it didn't leave us much time for shopping after the tour. Our bus was boxed in at Cane Garden Bay and it took quite a while to get back on the road. We asked to be dropped off in town for shopping/sightseeing and the driver dropped us near the crafters village by the pier. We walked to Sunny Caribbee for some souvenirs but didn't have enough time to walk around Main Street before "back on board" time.

Enjoy, its a beautiful island and very safe.
