  1. I did this tour last year and really enjoyed it as a shorter, non water based excursion. You get to drive through the Good Hope estate and stop at a couple parts of the plantation before reaching the big house.  It also included lunch.  There was a guide for all of it.

  2. SHIP: Infinity, Oct 2018

    CABIN #: 6030

    DECK #: 6

    CLASS: Balcony 2C

AREA: Near a bank of elevators

    BED NEAR: Door

    QUIET?: Yes

BALCONY VIEW: Restricted, the suites restrict view aft, and there was a washing gantry of some sorts in front of the next cabin. Direct view into suite if blinds in suite are open.

BALCONY SIZE: Sweet 16, big balcony!  Half covered.  Standing by rail you are visible to cabins above you, but we never saw anyone out there when we were and it was not a concern.  Balcony had 3 chairs and a table out there, no loungers.

    WIND A PROBLEM?: No

    SOOT A PROBLEM?: No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: No issues, great cabin!  Balcony door was hard to pull open/closed, not sure if they are all like that.

  3. I just called Celebrity a few days ago when my October cruise dropped in price by $370. They initially refused to do anything, but after I asked nicely I was offered an upgrade to concierge class (I declined) or 300 obc or an upgrade to get free WiFi and onboard gratuities free. I chose 300 obc. Never hurts to ask!

  4. I don't know if the oscars will be popular these days because of the highly predictable political whining from the Hollywood elite we'll see with this one.....

Whenever there's a good show or series being aired and we're cruising, we get an internet package, bring one of the tablets along, and hit on HBO Go....which reminds me - Game of Thrones season 7 comes on "later in the summer months" - I'm getting the feeling we'll have to do it all over again like last cruise....

We've never done the Internet package but I did consider it on the off chance that the network (abc) will stream it. I would definitely do it for G of Time lol.

  5. If I could get a straight answer to one question -- and I don't think any of us actually know the truth on this one -- I'd like to know whether the specialty dining fee goes to the ship or the wait staff. If I could know the answer to that question, I'd feel more secure in my opinion.

I know what you mean. I assumed the cover was for higher food quality rather than gratuity, so it seems odd not to tip for the truly excellent service we received at most of the Specialty restaurants. I'm sure the wait staff don't get the entire cover fee. And nope, I didn't eat at MDR ever and Windjammer only the first day for lunch.

  6. I wish that the gratuities would be a service charge that is non-removable. If that were done like at hotels, people pay the charge and that's it. I look at tips as part of the cruise charge and I don't worry if I don't eat in the MDR a few nights because I still eat on the ship.

I am not made of money, but I know the crew is paid by the gratuities, so it is something I feel I need to do.

Yeah, in a lot of ways I don't disagree... although I despise the "resort fee" that so many hotels charge now. I am not against paying gratuities, I just want them to go to the staff that actually served me, since the concept of a gratuity is based on quality of service received.

However, I've been reading more about this and realize now that with how the tips are "pooled", it's questionable how much of that money goes directly to the crew members anyway..or if it does, it gets distributed to whoever RCL deems to give the best service, not me. I guess if everyone tipped their actual waiters fairly if would be the best of both worlds.
