  1. OP here, Thanks for ALL the answers.

    1. OP asked OQ as to cruise closed loop not flights

2 OP is a US born citizen

    3. Thank you PomsaysOm for your added questions, as they helped me realize I have different names too.

    4. I think it may be easier to just get a passport.

    Your ALL right...........thanks everyone.

  2. I did this for the 14 days and I lost 15 lbs felt great..........I have not booked yet but hope to cruise next year in April so starting it now again to get it all off.....even has a maintenance plan called total 1200 never felt deprived and had ton's of energy........

  3. I have read that if your embarking from a US port and it is a round trip you DO NOT need to get a passport for Caribbean?.......No cruise scheduled yet but this part is important to me........what if you do not have one?.........years ago I booked (ended up cancelling) but the agent only asked for birth certificates.

  4. Carry-ons is any bag that you don't have to check-in at neither the airport or at cruise terminal. You can you use a backpack, handheld duffel bag, plastic/paper supermarket bag, small shopping cart, etc - whatever holds your belongings, whether it something important like medicine or 3 cases of soda for example, without a problem that's what a carry-on is.

I use 3 carry-ons - one is a purse to hold my medication, testing kit, money, passport, boarding passes. A backpack to hold my toiletries and hair products(hair gets frizzy and dry in hot weather[emoji21] ), finally a 22 inch wheeled weekend duffel bag to hold my clothes and shoes. Reason why my luggage is all carry-ons, is not because of airline fees but because I'm a solo traveler who has to lug her own stuff (its not fun lifting up a heavy 'checked' bag up 3 long flights of stairs...)

There's no really recommend/required carry-on when it comes to cruising (airport is a different story....). Pick what works best for you and your situation. [emoji4]

I will be solo also so thanks for the tip but.........3 flights of stairs?.....I thought ship has elevators?

  5. Wow this question certainly generated a lot of opinions. I have checked into Amtrak into Miami......at this point.......thinking of taking the drugs and just flying........no need to get over PHOBIA as it is not one. I do not work so the length is no a problem or the time.....at some point I will tackle my bucket list. thanks all.

  6. Lulu:

I am also new to cruising: and am looking at Western. May I ask why you prefer Easter to Western as first cruise? For my very first I am more about the ship and the cruise itself although plan on visiting the ports without paying for excursions I have heard Western ex's are just okay......are beaches better in Eastern?.

Now as to you, OP, here is my one concern for someone who can't fly, as opposed to someone afraid of flying. What happens if there is an emergency with the ship. With the Carnival "poop cruise" didn't people have to fly back from Mexico? If your ship breaks down somewhere, would they find a way to get you back without a plane?

I am not looking for trouble before it comes......but "if" that were to happen.......I suppose I would have to fly........but ti would not be pretty. But thanks !

  8. Thank you so very much for your opinions and posts on both sides of the spectrum. To clarify without going overboard. I have a condition that causes vertigo and everything that goes with it. Yes it would be cheaper to fly and yes faster......but the anxiety, airsickness and vertigo are NOT worth it......I would have to be "HEAVILY" medicated, and a mess due to that for 24-36 hours. (Not an option) *** I know the next question...........And you want to take a cruise/ with vertigo?........Yes I do and my Dr recommends that I "try it" I will either be fine with the aid of motion sickness meds........or I will spend a week in bed.......either way..........I can find out if I can cruise or cross it off my my BL..Train is the option I prefer and I do not work so that gives me the time needed to leave early and see things as I go and I have met "wonderful" people on the train........heck I might meet someone that is going on my cruise too?

I have also read some posts where cruisers had vertigo and did fine.....per dr altitude at sea level is the best. I am a little intimidated by going solo....but I have no one that wants to cruise .......fear of water and titanic really?....when its your turn doesn't matter where you are......I am a pretty tough cookie so I am just going to go for it....still trying to find the best line for my age group and the right activities.........hoping for April 2016 I really wanted to go on NCL Gateway out of Miami but seems Amtrak goes all the way to DC and then back down........ that seems stupid to me.....so I am looking at New Orleans and Galveston......for NCL Dawn......I love meeting people so this is the right place for me to be....

  9. Hi I am a single widow 59 years young and just now thinking of my first cruise.(solo)......but I do not and cannot fly.....this poses a real problem to get to the port of embarkation Anyone else have this dilemma?. I live in beautiful Colorado so Miami seems to be a daunting bus ride....lol.......I want to go to Caribbean. so any past for present cruisers that do not fly please let me know your experiences.. Thanks.
