We were there in March on the Rome->Athens cruise; we had a great time and can't wait for our next cruise.

Are there any limitations now in Italy for cruise passengers? When we were there, cruisers weren't allowed to explore Italian cities without a tour guide; we did arrive in Rome 5 days early and were out and about there without constraints, but wish it had been allowed in Venice.

We were in Venice last week on the Sea and there were no limitations. They actually encouraged people who had 2 tours booked (afternoon and evening) to stay in Venice between times. We were allowed independent exploration in all of the Italy ports.

  2. We had the same situation on a TA a few years ago (assigned to late and waitlisted for early). About the third evening, the maitre d' stopped by our table and said he had an opening in early that we could switch to starting the next evening. But by then we had already adjusted our schedules for late dining so we passed.

  3. I am not positive but I'm pretty sure when we were on Viking last year for the Romantic Danube, that there was more than a single white option...I feel like someone we dined with one evening requested a non-dry white. Of course, YMMV but as the PP said, you can always bring wine purchased ashore onboard to drink. We did that as I am a big Gruner Vetliner fan but got to the dining room and discovered that was the complementary white so ended up bringing ours home. In fact, that reminds me one of them is in the cooler....think I will open to have on this beautiful sunday afternoon....thanks for the reminder!

Glad I could help. :) Enjoy.

  4. Yes, and there is no corkage fee. We visited a winery in Germany with Viking and so many people bought wine that Viking had everyone's purchases taken back to the ship so we wouldn't have to carry the bottles around with us. They encourage shopping at the local establishments.

It's a beautiful thing. Thanks for the info.

  5. What are the choices for the included wine on Viking? We're looking at the Prague-Paris itinerary and will be traveling with friends. One friend only likes sweeter wine, like Riesling. Are there many choices in the included wine with dinner? Or is it just a choice between red or white table wine?

Also, if we buy wine in town, can we bring it back and have it with dinner?

We're new to river cruising and I read the stickies but didn't see this covered.

  6. We’ve been on QM2 twice with a third trip upcoming. Each time we’ve booked an inside guarantee. The first two times we were upgraded to a nice inside (deck 11) and this time they upgraded us to a sheltered balcony (deck 4). I was thrilled! This time I found out about the upgraded cabin assignment on the voyage personalizer, within days of booking. We booked with a TA.
