  1. I was reading and someone commented it was hard to keep up with the guide. Can you go off on your own here or do you stay with a tour guide. Anyone done the tour with carnival and been in port for 8 hours. How long do you get to stay at Xcaret?

I was with RC. The first part of the excursion we had to stay with the guide. I really wish we would have been on our own. By the time it was done with him explaining things to the group, it was lunch time. After a quick lunch, we visit by ourselves for maybe 2 hours and had to go back. I don’t recall the exact amount of time we’d stayed there. But I did feel like a waste of money! Like i said, if you ship is dock At Cozumel, check what you can do directly at Cozumel or close In playa del carmen.

  2. Yes, children are not allowed in the pool. But why the pool??? The water was soooo Nice, chrystal clear, It was amazing. I never once wanted ( neither than my children) to go to the pool. And if you wonder about having sand all over your body When leaving, dont worry, there's like outside shower near the exit.

If you plan to rent a cabana with children, i would definitly suggest the ones on the beach. Enjoy!!!

  3. If you plan to arrive early, i would suggest to wait till you get there to decide if you want a cabana and if so, wich one. The beach chairs are Closer to the water then the cabana's are. But the cabana are still on the beach, so close to the water to. In my opinion, the cabana where closer to each other. I would go back there anytime :)

  4. You dont have a lot a Time there to really enjoy the park. I felt like i wasted my money. I will go back to Xcaret someday, but not when on a cruise... Try to see if something on Cozumel could be interesting...

  5. We just went to Xcaret. Even thought the park is beautifull, no i do not recomande it When on a cruise. If you ship dock in Cozumel. It' s a 1:25 ride (including a 45 min ride on a very rocky ferry -still feel sick thinking of it). It's a big park, a lot of walking. You see maybe 20% of the park, cause you have limited time.

If you choose to go anyway, i suggest that you book with your Cruise and not on your own, cause there' s good chance you wont be back on time!

If your on Cozumel during the right, i would suggest "save a turtle experience"

  6. We were on the Freedom of the seas and we purchase the excursion to XCaret with them.

Our ship was dock in Cozumel, wich is an Island near Playa DEL Caremn. Since Xcaret is not in Cozumel, you need to take a ferry (45 minutes ride) to the main land. Then, a 10 minutes walk to get to a bus and then 20-25 min bus ride.

When you purchase it with Royal, a guide bring you to the ferry, then to the bus and the directly to Xcaret. You CANT get lost.

However, It cost to much for the little Time your there. We arrive around noon to Xcaret. We had to stick with the guide for about an hour. The we go on our own. Your hungry, you have to eat. And then, you need to be back at the meeting point at 4:30 pm. We were back on the ship around 6:45 pm.

Xcaret is a big park. You dont get lost (you have a map) but you need to be attentive to were you are and you want to go. We felt like for the price we saw nothing. I would not go back When i'm on a Cruise.

People got sick on the ferry ride. It's not a fun ride. It's the Time were you need médication or a patch in order to feel good. So if you plan to go to playa DEL Carmen or excursion on the main land, think about your médication. We did not need any on the Cruise but wish we had some here!

  7. It could not been easier! You just go outside and someone Will ask you if you want a taxi! To make sure i sais yes, to the port and its 4$ a person right? And he said yes. Its like a 5 min ride. You could walk, but it could take like an hour... And It was hot!

  8. @wendyland: movies during the day: Home, penguins, kung fu panda 3

Night film in the arcadia: star wars

Night film at the outside pool: race, Batman VS Superman and another one that i dont remember. One thing that is weird is that the movies at night (either Batman or race) were there at least 2 nights during the week... For the cost of a film, i would put different one on each night

    @Tara619

No need to reserve tickets for the show. The ice show, we went on the first day of that event (day 2). We arrive about 40 minutes before and It was really to early. I think 15 minutes before you'll be fine. For the night show, we had early dinner at 5:30 so we were suppose to go to the late show at 9:00. But since we always go to bed early, we chose to go to the 7:00 show. We went after dinner (6:45 sometimes 7:00) and we always had a good Seat. The only show that was crowded was the magic show, but we still had good seats.

We were 7 in our party and the table were set for us. On our sea pass the number of our table, the Time of the dinner and the dinning room was on it. Every night that we wanted to go to the main dinning room, we sat at the same table and had the same 2 waiters. You dont change dinning room like on Disney. And it's all in the same dinning room (wich is gorgeous) but on three levels so the name of the restaurant represent the Level you'll be. Ex: leonardo's deck 3. No you dont sit whit strangers.

There's really nothing to plan other than the excursion. Be carefull to stay on ship Time When in port. Bring a watch, not a cell phone that change Time automatically. We left 2 people behind in cayman, so it does happen! :(

  9. Grand Cayman: wow! I would move there!

As soon as the ship dock (8:00) We went out. We had to take a tender, but if you got out as soon as possible, you wont wait to long. The ride was about 10 minutes, maybe less. It was Nice to take pictures of the ship.

On the land, It was easy to find a taxi. It was 4$ per person to get to Royal Palms. I had booked a cabana for 100, but i change my mind and took 3 chairs (10$/each) and an umbrella (15$) instead. The water was Crystal clear, It was so nice! We had brought our goggles and we were able to see different Kind of fish without going far!

We rented 2 sea doo double passengers (100$ each for 30 minutes). Me and my husband was driving and we were able to sit one kid on each one. Since we have 3 kids, we could come an go (to exchange the kid!) as we wish. We rented for half an hour but we had a it for a bit longer.

For lunch, we had 2 pizza for the whole family (6) (around 50$ in US) and It was delicious!

We could see that It was not as poor as othe port (like Jamaïca) that we'd visit before.

  10. -on sea days, yes it gets crowded around the pool side. The first sea day we were there around 8:00 and we were the first one. On the second sea day (last day of the Cruise) we were there around 9:00 and we could see that people were sleeping later on this last day, cause there were alot af chairs available. You can get 2 towels per sea pass. Just remember to bring you sea pass When you give back the towels, so the're able to scan it off your account. They say they could charge 25$ per towel lost

-breakfast with the dream works.... Not sure if ils worth the cost. It cost 13.50$ CAD per person (so a little less americian). You dont go there for the food, cause it's the same you could get somewhere else. You go the for the mascotte. But we saw only 3 :king Julien, Gloria and Alex the lion. During the week, they are all coming at different Time for about 10 minutes and you bring your own camera for picture. If i'd known that there would only be 3 mascottes in the special breakfast, i would not laid for it and make sure that i would bring my kids to see every mascotte. No need to arrive early for that, it"s not like on the disney's ship... No wait Line, you just show at the Time, you take a picture right away and youre free to do wathever you want to do after

-yes they sell all Kind of stuff on the ship (spa treatments, jewelry, etc). But you just pass youre way and you'll be fine. I did not botter us, ans we did not buy anything.

-i've read lots of reviews and tips before going on that Cruise, so i was well prepare. It help me in a lot of ways.

Freedom is a big beautifull ship. It was clean. And except for one lady at the casino, every body who work in there was Nice. They always try to please you.

I would not hesitate to go back. I'm very please whit Royal team and we all had a FANTASTIC time!

Like i said, we were all surprise that we like it that much, especially since our other Cruise was with Disney Line.

Dont hesitate if you have questions, i'll do my best to answer you!

  11. -the shows were all great. Marquee: a Broadway show, not my Kind of show, but it was good. Ice show: excellent. We went on the first sea day, but they were showing it on another day and Also at night at the end. The 2 comedy show were excellent and the magic show was good.

-since we have kids and go to sleep early, we did not participate in any late show, but i think that there plenty of choice and activites to see and do

  12. -the food in the windjammer was ok. It's a Buffet, so as expected

-we did not pay for a beverage plan. In the Buffet for lunch and dinner there was free glas of water, lemonade, unsweeten ice tea, coffee, and mango water. For breakfast: Orange and Apple juice and coffee. We did buy the water bottles (6 big bottles for 39$) and we are coming back with 4 bottles! So a waste of money.

-i've read that you should bring an empty water bottle to refils it in the Buffet and bring it back to your room. But your not alound to do that and we brought it for nothing... If we were thirsty we would just go and grab a glass of water or lemonade and bring it near the pool or somewhere else

-in the main dinning room: Also free lemonade or free glass of water or coffee.

-the kids club and the teens club was way better on the Disney, but it was still ok here

-we had inside rooms that connect 1605-1607. It was small as we were expecting, but it was always clean. In the rooms i can definitly say that the Disney dream look better. The freedom show it's age specialy in the rooms and in the bathroom. The should chance the color...

  13. Hi! First of all, my main language is not english, so il do my best on this review!

We just got off the Freedom and it was FANTASTIC!!! i just dont understand all the negative reviews on the Freedom or on Royal...

It was my first Cruise with royal, but i've Cruise with Disney (Disney Dream) last year. To my surprise, this Cruise was better on many levels than the one with Disney last year.

-embarcartion: easy and fast. As everyone had said, our rooms were ready by 1pm.

-debarcation: we choose to carry our own luggage. We went to the Buffet at 7h and around 7:30 we went to the gangway (exit) on the 4th floor. We were in our car at 7:50!!! But i could see that people who choose to not carry there luggage had to wait a little longer. So if youre in a hurry, carry it yourself!

-no need to arrive more than 20 minutes before the parade

-the service and the food in the main dinning room is just excellent! We all gain 10 pounds!

  14. Not sure if the pirate's night is on royal or on Disney. I've experience it on Disney. Going on Freedom in august and never heard of that....

Waterproof camera, little plastic thing to put money on you on excursion that you can get wet, aquashoes (depending on excursion), lots of 1$ for tips, a few garbage bag to put your Dirty or wet clothes on the way back home, an empty bottle to fill it up with free juice or limonade (to put back in your room fridge if you dont pay for the drinking package).

A photocopie of your passport (to bring with you on excursion day... Just in case!)

If your on a cruise with a skating rink, socks!

  15. @ginger123snaps from what i know, this excursion is only available a few months around the year (nesting season). I'm going on royal Freedom on august 14 and i do see on the website. If you dont see it, your probably not going on the "goods" date. I think nesting season is something from august through october...
