  1. I'd have to agree at least as far as HAL goes as we haven't tried Cunard.. Although almost all lines edge down a bit for Alaska. We recently did a Hawaiian cruise on Norwegian's Pride of America and unlike our very first cruise to Canada with them few of the casual outfits I saw would have passed muster on our first Celebrity cruise. These days I often wear white jeans from Chico's or dark lighter weight denim trousers on Caribbean cruises. Add on sandals or deck shoes and a nice top that covers what it needs to but not too tightly and most lines won't bat an eye at you. We up the dress code for Europe and will for an upcoming cruse Down Under because we often have meals ashore where people tend to dress a bit better than here in the States. Nothing fancy or even formal but just above what we would wear for casual nights in the MDR. I mean you do not want to dress up so much you feel like you should be wearing heels when you have to hike over cobblestones. And even with HAL a formal night can be a nice pair of slightly flowy black pants and a sequined top (they are not very expensive at all). As was mentioned above second hand stores often have never or barely worn resort wear.

Thanks for all the replies. We have the funds to buy new clothes if we wanted but i just don't want to go buy a bunch of clothes to please people ill never see again. I feel great in my dark jeans and a blouse. I also have dresses to wear on the nicer nights. Resort wear would feel goofy- like I'm dressing up like someone I'm not. And my flowy black pants feel like I'm heading to work. Does that make sense ?

  2. I said I would report back, we took this excursion on Thursday (9/24) from RCCL. Weather was great! We had a fun time and the crew is terrific. There is a bar that serves food and drinks all very reasonable priced. The best part is they let you run a tab, and you just settle it up before getting off.

Our tour was in the morning, it took about 20-30 min to get out to Maho area, then we had about 2 hours out in the water. We had a mix of children with us (6-16) all novice snorklers. They had a BLAST! I didn't see much a whole lot of fish, but my kids didn't have anything to compare. It was fun to just float around in the water.

Now for the plane action, it certainly is not the same experience I have been told as to standing on the beach. The picture above that shows all the rocks, is exactly what it looked like last week as well. There really isn't any beach except to the left if facing the airport. We saw several small planes and one bigger plane. The afternoon tour maybe from carnival? Will get to see bigger and better planes I think.

IF you think you can have beach access or will get to see the big 747, you will probably be disappointed. But if you go into this knowing what is is, it truly was a lot of fun. Would I do it again, no probably not but glad we did it.

Also when they bring you back they give you the option to get off the boat at port (where they picked you up) or bring you into town, you can than walk back which they said was a 15 min walk or take the water taxi. We didn't know ahead that was an option and the little kids were tried and wanted to get off. If anyone has any questions let me know.

    Thank you so much!

  3. Casual nights vary a great deal by cruise line. What would be considered acceptable on one would not be allowed on others.

I'd like to know more about this- which cruises are the more fancy ones? I'm not a regular cruiser but if I had to guess I might say carnival is more relaxed and maybe RC is a little more dressy? Am I way off? Where does ncl and all the others stand?

  4. I don't wear jeans or leggings to the main dining room. I wear nice pants and a blouse or other attractive top, or nice pants and a top and blazer, or a sundress or other casual dress.

You'll see a wide variety of outfits on women in the dining room on casual night, so I wouldn't worry too much! Sorry I didn't post photos, but I don't have any photos of myself at dinner except on formal night.

    Thank you

  5. Sorry...Why

I'm sure you'll look great in what you consider "smart casual" it's exactly what you would probably wear out to a restaurant in your home town.

    Enjoy your cruise :)

Bc I've never been on a RC cruise and haven't cruised in years and am bringing a group of 11 who have never cruised... I'm sure I'm going to get questions about what others will be wearing ... Good enough to reason?
