  1. Wow. On the Ruby in May, there was a bowl of assorted cut-up fruit at every meal in Horizon Court. I ate a huge pile of it every morning for breakfast.

Yes, every princess ship I have been on have the choice of fresh fruit salad, fruit cut into slices or whole fruit.

I was very sad that on our last cruise aboard Golden, there was no 'happy hour' in the wheelhouse bar as on previous cruises

  2. I was going to add "I will shout you a Foo foo".

CC has a lot of lingo talk, having been on here for years, I get most of it, each board has it's own lingo too if you ever wander over to the other boards:eek: but yes, you learn something everyday:)

Ha! Accepted and I'll shout you one back, I think I like the sound of the umbrella foo foo best, coffee's like, well coffee, I'm not a connoisseur :D

  3. Hi Anne:)

I believe Thrak is referring to a fancy coffee, not a plain ol regular. Like a Foo foo drink refers to a cocktail, umbrellas and garnish:p

Thanks chez, well it's true, you learn something new every day!:)

(Planning to learn a lot more about cocktails when on board):D

  4. I always have a coffee card for my wife but for iced tea she still prefers to just get it at HC. She's tried the fancy teas and wasn't all that impressed so she uses her card for foo foo coffee and gets her tea at the buffet.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is foo foo coffee?:)

  5. Hi there,

Just wanted to run something by everyone, if you've done this yourself before.

Long story short, we are a group of 8 and are waitlisted for our preferred dining time. We have been told to go to maitre d first thing for the best chance of having our dining time changed onboard.

All 8 travelers have 11am-12pm boarding time, the first boarding time slot. Two of us will arrive at 11am, the rest of the group will be arriving just before midday.

Two of us will board at 11am to try and make the dining arrangements. How easy is it then to disembark to meet the group on the pier?

Will we all be able to them go together to get our embarkation photo as a group, or will the first two of us who have already checked in prior, have a seperate boarding queue to get back on the ship?

    Thank you!

I'm not sure about the on and off rules, so not joining that discussion, but if everyone is going to be there by midday, that will give you plenty of time to see the maitre'd, he's usually not available until later anyway :)

  6. Princess did not have GF Wraps on my last Princess Cruise - Golden Princess, Buenos Aires to LA in March 2014. P&O UK - Arcadia/Aurora did have them last year, up on deck at the sandwich bar.

I shall be on Island Princess 3 weeks today, will enquire if they have them, if they do, I shall certainly indulge and report back !!

Thanks for that, Uncle Les, that will be just in time for my cruise to South Pacific on Emerald, also if you could find out about the if the speciality coffees and hot chocolate at the international cafe are GF. Thank you :)

  7. And that is odd Mic as Italy has a very high ratio of Coeliacs. In Australia many restaurants these days also stock gluten free pasta, made from rice flour, maize flour, something like that, no wheat content means no gluten protein which is what destroys you.

Most of the GF Pasta I buy from the supermarkets are manufactured in Italia.

The ships have it too. Sorry to bore you all with this GF talk, but it is important for the traveller to stay well. I trust some people on here get some benefit by the discussions. Thank you for your interest Uncle Mic. Now your brother could have had a plate of lettuce, tomato and onion drenched in olive oil, perhaps with some parmesan cheese on top !! I have had that before in a joint with not much else GF.

Very interested in your GF experiences, do you know if princess ships have GF wraps?

  8. Hi all,

I'm looking for advise - we will be on Legend of the Seas visiting Champage Bay, Vila, Suva, Loutoka and Mare. Can anyone offer advise on the best ports to snorkel and the ports we are better of taking a tour, we would prefer that any tours were with local operators rather than booked through RCI.

    Thank you

These tours are offered by local operators Viti N Sami DULAKI, discovermyfiji

  9. We find the OP's question a bit strange. Most folks with severe gluten allergies are very aware of what they can and can not eat/drink without having a reaction. Why somebody going on a cruise would have a question about beverages is a bit weird. Gluten free alcohol products as well as gluten free soft drinks are well known (by those who deal with Gluten issues on a daily basis) and easy to discover on the internet. As to coffee products, our friend who has an awful gluten allergy would tell anyone to avoid any coffee that is not freshly brewed (within sight) and do not trust any coffee additives unless you can personally examine the label of the additive. For example, many so-called "coffee creamers" do contain wheat or barley malt which can quickly cause a nasty reaction in one who is truly gluten tolerant. As to those on gluten free diets for the heck of it...who cares :).

    Hank

I do know what I can and cannot eat when I'm home or in my hometown, in Australia. we do have gluten free beer ( approved by the coeliac society) and I have found some flavoured coffees that are gluten free, so that is why I was asking if anyone had found out mainly about the coffee, (alcohol and cold drinks I pretty much know) on board.I have asked princess cruises if they could send me the ingredient list for their coffees so I can see for myself, as most non coeliacs don't really know what to look at.

  10. Yes I agree GMOs don't have anything to do with celiac disease. But another poster implied that it did. And ever since then Kamloops50 has been posting incorrect information about the existence of GM wheat which I have been trying to counter with facts and links to support those facts.

Yes sometimes when someone is on the misinformation train, no matter how many stations it stops at, truth, fact, correct (helpful) information they will just not get off  :)

  11. Canadian wheat is a major export to the EU:

Canada’s agricultural exports to the EU totalled an annual average of $2.5 billion between 2011 and 2013, led by wheat (durum and common), soybeans and other oilseeds, canola oil, frozen fruits and maple syrup.

    source: http://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-acc/ceta-aecg/benefits-avantages/agriculture-agricoles.aspx?lang=eng

I don't have any knowledge of the GMO issues, but just saying, this has nothing to do with celiac disease, it's the Protein part of the grain of wheat, barley, rye and (still conversations going on re- oats) that causes the damage to the small intestine :)

  12. I pity you gluten folks. I'm sure you wish you could drink a nice cold beer. Yum, but instead, I strongly recommend a nice cold glass of ships water. As we say in Thailand, Arroy, which means delicious! Have a great cruise!

Very funny:rolleyes::D ( btw we can get gluten free beer ) :D

  13. Hi All! My fiance and I are taking our first cruise next month for our honeymoon. We are both really interested in snorkeling at all of the islands and are wondering if it would be better to rent while we are there or to go ahead and purchase our own to bring? If you recommend us bringing our own, can you give links or anything for good sets to purchase online?

    Thanks so much!!

Take snorkel and mask definitely, do advise especially if going to the islands that you take reef shoes, they are a must as the beach coral that you have to walk over to get to the reefs are VERY sharp on the feet. I for my stuff from a. Cash Converters and b. Op shop ( both looked either new or been used once, and they had been expensive sets) :D
