  1. Salsa and salsa was great in Cozumel. We have a Mexican Riviera cruise booked for March 2019 and it is already sold out in Cabo. I see that they have one in Mazatlan, but it is not showing up on the Carnival site (at least not yet).

We recently did the Salsa & Salsa in Mazatlan and it was fabulous. Great for young and not-so-young!

  2. We are boarding the Splendor today (!!!) and are driving a long distance to the port. Our estimated arrival time puts us there 1 1/2 - 2 hours ahead of our boarding time. How strict are the Splendor boarding times? It’s an odd amount of time to do something so we are hoping to get on early. Any chance of that? We also don’t want to just hang out at the port if we are not likely to get checked in early. TIA

  3. We have won three ship on stick trophies and they are displayed proudly in my daughter’s room (11 yr old). What we like about them is that they say the name of the ship that we won them on. Each is for the family scavenger hunt. Those trophies hold wonderful memories for each of us, like getting strangers to join us in a conga line or the older gentleman that we met at the soft serve machine that asked if he could be the person that smashed the ice cream in my kid’s face as part of the challenge. He was laughing so hard & wanted to know what else we had to do to finish the contest. We sail in 21 days and are very much looking for to this same contest.

We have also won champagne a few times & gave it away since we don’t drink much.

While it would be nice to win something big, these memories are the trophies and the trophies are just great reminders.

  4. Hi,

We are going to be on the Splendor from 3/31-4/7 and I am curious what is the earliest likely time that we can get off the ship using self-assist. It is my daughter’s birthday that day and we are meeting friends at Universal Studios the day we get off the ship so we want to get off as early as possible. What is the earliest time you have gotten off the Splendor in Long Beach?

  5. Thanks for the review. We sail March of 2018 and having so much fun planning! We are also thinking of doing Diamond Head before we sail. Did you rent a car? Take a cab? Also, how late did you go back to the ship in Maui and Kaui on the first days there?

We took a taxi there & then there were lots of taxis lined up to take people back when we were finished. We got back to the ship the first day in Maui about 6 pm (we think) and Kauai about 9:30 pm. We had very full days and were exhausted! Have fun planning!

  6. We are on the Nov. 4th cruise. Do you remember how long you allowed to return rental cars and return to the ship? I know that most posters have said to not leave car overnight in parking lot on Maui, but can be safely done in Kauai by paying the $20. We have cars rented in each port except Kona where we are taking snorkel trip through ship excursion. A little nervous about returning cars and having sufficient time to get back to ship. Sounds like you had a great trip...we are doing 3 day pre-cruise in Honolulu and 3 days post cruise on Maui....

We left about an hour. The only place we cut it close was Kauai. We got caught in traffic heading back to the rental car place so we didn't have time to fill with gas (paid for that!!). Enjoy!

  7. Hi Sara. Thanks for your review. It looks like you and your family had a great time. We are taking our 2nd cruise on the POA in March 2018 (will be our first time in an aft balcony) and I am looking for different activities than we did the first time. I am interested in this bike tour and was wondering if you could give me a few more details. Did it include any hiking? Did you get to see any lava (kind of up close?) Did it make any stops at any of the key points of interest in the park? If so, where?

Have a great time & I bet you'll love the aft balcony! No hiking with the bike ride. No actual lava flowing seen on the bike ride but it does stop at points of interest like the lava tubes. You park the bikes at the lava tube and walk through them (like 10 minute walk).

  8. We are headed on the Mexican Riviera cruise in March. First timers to that area. I was sold on Las Caletas until I read that it can get very crowded to the point that it takes a long time to use any of the water equipment because of the long lines. What are people's experiences and suggestions? I also read about the strange age restriction that nobody over 39 can go on the teen/adult "rides" (slide, etc). I will be 42 & hubby will be 44 with a 12 yr old. She will want us to go with her & we will want to join her. What's with this weird age limit? I didn't feel old until I learned I was too old for their equipment. [emoji23]

  9. I really don't want to bother carnival with this question if it can be answered easily since they are busy with many more pressing issues.

Here is my issue: my family has a cruise booked for 4/7/18 out of Miami. The week before we planned to spend in the keys. At this point we have paid for airfare into Orlando (starting our trip there) and deposit for the cruise. We want to change plans since the keys were a major portion of our trip and it is highly unlikely that they will be rebuilt enough by then to really enjoy that area. We want to cancel the trip and schedule a different carnival cruise during same time frame but different port. Since both are carnival cruises and early on I am hoping we don't lose the deposit. I read the policy and it seems like we will only lose $50 but I am unsure.

First question: how much of the deposit will we lose?

Second: if we won't lose the deposit (minus $50) can we do the cancellation and transfer of deposit online or do we have to call carnival?

Third: if we can do the above online, how do we do it to make sure the deposit is applied to the new cruise?

    Thank you in advance,

    Sara

  10. Three of us are not prone to sea sickness at all but two are. We all took Bonine as directed. Everybody at lunch and nobody was sick. My husband and I got off the ship as soon as we could to get the car and then found a bank to get cash for tips and then returned to get the rest of the family at the ship. I don't know what time we actually got on the road to the canyon. We didn't know we'd be able to do both so we hadn't planned for it but I realized that it was possible so we went for it. We weren't able to do all the hikes we would have wanted but we weren't super rushed either. I wouldn't cancel the Na'pali experience. We all loved it and we loved the canyon too. Don't get me wrong, it was a long packed day but we loved it. Don't stress about the waiver - it was a standard waiver. I can't give you exact times but I can tell you we got in line to get off the boat as soon as we could and after picking up the rest of the family from the ship we didn't stop anywhere before going to the canyon. One tip, use the restaurant bathrooms before heading to the harbor because when we were there the harbor bathrooms were unusable to change in or use the toilets. Enjoy your trip!

  11. My family did a private excursion in Belize on a carnival cruise and we had no issues getting off and meeting our guide. Just have your whole group ready to get the tender slips as early as possible. We have repeatedly found it not to be a problem to make our excursions without FTTF or other way to get off in the first group or so. No need to book through the ship. We really enjoyed our excursion. Have fun!

  12. We stayed at the Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach because of included breakfast (it was good), free wi fi and location. Couple of blocks from Waikiki Beach, walkable to the Diamond Head Luau and a short taxi ride to Diamond Head. We also walked all along Waikiki Beach to eat, shop & people watch.

  13. Do this trip the 1st day when you are in port overnight. You don't want to be rushing to get back.

There is an app you can download for $4.99 that narrates the trip for you. It's hoot. One of the best "excursion" expenses I ever did.

I agree! I bought the Shaka app for Road to Hana and it was great. We also used the Kauai versions as well.

  14. If you are exploring first before the cruise then rent a car from the airport; however, my family (only 5 of us) enjoyed a limo from the airport to the hotel when we went in June. It was very similar in price to a shuttle & fun. We rented a car when we came back from the cruise to explore the island. The limo company we used was ABC Limousine.

  15. We will be on the PoA in October this year, and want to check what is the latest time that we can disembark.

We need to be at the Honolulu Airport by 12 noon (for a 2 pm flight) - so we have plenty of time and don't want to spend the time sitting at the

Alternatively, if we disembark at say 9 am - what can we do for 3 hours (bearing in mind that we are arriving a couple of days before our cruise, so would have toured most of Honolulu then)

You can store your luggage at the port ($5/bag, I believe). We wanted to go to the aloha tower but we didn't have a chance. It's close to the cruise port. I'm not sure what else since your not like it to have transportation & traffic gets pretty bad to some areas in Honolulu.

  16. I suggest you hike Diamond Head the morning that you board the ship. Hiking it early is best because it gets crowded & hot. Then get back to hotel before check out to shower before ship. We spent 6 days on the north shore (plus Pearl Harbor the day we got off the ship & diamond head day we got on) and loved it. The dole plant is interesting. We spent more time there then we planned. It can be a giant time suck (not bad but just keep that in mind).
