  1. ISP is one of my favorite ports in the US. We've done 9 cruises altogether so far, 1 RT from Seattle which got us hooked on Alaska, and 4 back-to-backs from Vancouver. I haven't done the land portion pre- or post- cruise because of very limited mobility issues. I go where I can take my scooter.

We've done whale watches there, and one of the biggest thrills was being surrounded by a pod of Humpbacks, with one going beneath our boat and emerging right under my feet. I looked right down its blow hole! :D I was so amazed I just watched, and didn't get a photo! It's a place where one can see bubble net fishing up close from the ship and the breaching, fin slapping, and tail lobbing. One of our excursion captains dropped down an aquatic microphone and we heard Humpbacks "singing". Eagles abound in the area, and bears are easily seen. Our first time on bear watches my son and I together had 30 separate sightings. Alaska's Wildest Kitchen has been an excursion we've enjoyed a couple of times, each time it was a little different. I highly recommend the port whether one does an excursion or just walks around. Chat with the folks there and you will have made a friend!

  2. I now bring my own scooter and try to get it out of the case when dropped at the pier, so I can ride it onto the ship. When that didn't happen one time, I was escorted in a wheelchair to my cabin where I waited til my scooter was delivered.

As for muster, I have been directed to be seated in a designated area until muster has ended. Some ships have indoor muster stations where seating is provided for those unable to stand for the duration of the muster. These have been my experiences. :)

  3. I have used a rental scooter in an accessible cabin for almost e dry cruise we have taken. What a blessing to have, makes cruising much easier for me and gives me independence from my hubby. We don't have to be together 24/7. Make sure you bring a some kind of power strip with you, their aren't a lot of outlets in the cabins. The charge cord they give you is long but, you will need the extra outlets to charge it. If you have ports that are Tenders rather then docked you WILL NOT be able to take the scooter on the Tender. They will assist you going up and down the bang plank in port and your mother in the wheel chair as well. Most of the time I will park my rental scooter at the Windjammer/dining room entrance but, you can use them to get as close as possible to your table and the wait staff will deal with parking it for you. Just make sure you get the key back after it's been parked. Relax and have fun! Both the wheelchair and the Scooter will fit in an accessible cabin no problem!

I was able to take my scooter on the Radiance tender when in Icy Strait Point, Alaska, in May. I suggest asking ahead of time. :D

  4. You definitely may park your scooter outside the dining room and walk in. And if you need assistance to your table it will be gladly offered. You might want to request a table close to the entrance so you won't have to maneuver between tables or too far to walk.

I've done both over the last several cruises, and it has worked well.

There will be assistance available at the gangway when you debark at your ports of call.

  5. Bookings may only be transferred to a Travel Agent up until 60 days from creation if the request is made outside of Final Payment period and the booking is not paid in full. If a booking has a ChoiceAir ticket and the transfer request involves a change in currency we cannot accommodate a transfer. If you would like to transfer your reservation to a travel agent, please select the link provided below and complete the online form.

I just learned about on line transfers to a TA when booking my last 2 cruises this week. It worked! :)

  6. I use a TA, not for the perks, but for assistance if something happens that I'm unable to handle while on the cruise. On my last cruise my personal scooter became inoperable. That day was a holiday in Netherlands, and the concierge was unable to get anything done due to the holiday. My TA was able to secure a rental scooter for the rest of my B2B vacation and have it delivered to my cabin in Copenhagen.

  7. We have been busy ....moved to Hawaii with hubby's job but we are booked on the Radiance in May. We haven't been to Alaska in almost 20 years. This will be my 18 year sons first trip to Alaska. It will be our 23rd wedding anniversary and we are going with a family couple that it will be their delayed honeymoon. Any suggestions let me know :)

You made a good choice :D My son and I are also on this cruise, as well as the next. Come join the roll call and chat with fellow passengers

  8. Hi.

I have booked a 16-day Norway to New Jersey cruise for next summer. The cruise has 8 at sea days, including 5 days in a row. Thinking about it this weekend, that's a lot of hours to entertain oneself. Do TA/TP/Repositioning cruises with multiple days at sea offer more and different types of activities during at sea days? Does anyone have any compasses to share for their similar type cruise?

    Thanks for your insight!

My suggestion is to join your CC Roll Call thread. On the TAs that I've enjoyed fellow PX organized onboard activities as well as shore excursions. I was involved in a needle work group and learned a new crochet pattern. Maybe you could organize a game group or craft group on your Roll Call.

I've enjoyed TAs so much that I'm looking for one in '16. Happy cruising :D

  9. How soon prior to sailing do you usually complete your online check in? We are sailing Thanksgiving and can do check in now. I was planning on waiting until closer to sailing. Is it ok to wait? Or, is there some advantage to doing it early?

I fill it out as soon as I have a booking number, and then it's done. It's part of the excitement of planning a new cruise. :D

  10. Back in January my niece, son and I did the Tea. We enjoyed the different teas and the food that was served. We even made the Lemon Grass tea at home. We also walked the grounds and enjoyed some beautiful views of surrounding areas.

I have mobility issues, and I was able to walk around the area if I rested from time to time. We also saw some beautiful and interesting birds. The history of the place was interesting.

  11. We've done 3 B2Bs on the Radiance, and have another B2B booked for May 15 2015 I guess one could say we REALLY like the Radiance :D

We like the beginning of the cruise season because bears are coming out of hibernation, whales are migrating to their feeding grounds, and we've not had problems with mosquitos. We've had fantastic whale watching experiences in Icy Strait from shore, from whale watching excursions, and great whale watching from the ship.

Enjoy your cruise whichever you choose.

  12. We will be staying in Vancouver for 2 nights before our 7/24/2015 cruise to Seward..has anyone stayed at Best Western downtown and taken their airport shuttle & breakfast for 2 package? Has anyone taken the bus from the airport to the downtown hotels? Are there other ways to get from airport to downdown..other than a taxi? Looking for any advice on how to get from airport to hotel and over to cruise port. Thanks to all.

If you're speaking of the Best Western on Drake ST, we have stayed there several times. We take a taxi from the airport to the hotel, and the shuttle from the hotel to the port. There is a Tim Horton's close by, and we enjoy their offerings for breakfast. For other meals, there are several places nearby. We enjoy some of the Chinese food that is available within a short walking distance. We'll be there 5/14/15. :D

  13. Hi - I am looking at the 10 day Legend of the seas Southern route in Feb 2015 - we have cruised RC before on Allure, Oasis, Independence, Navigator, Radiance...cannot really find much about Legend other than it just came out of dry dock in April, anyone have any put about the ship for this route? Also looking at a JS which would give me 20 points correct? Trying to decide between Legend and the new Princess Royal 10 day route as well Thanks so much!

We were on the Transatlantic that Truffles2 was on, and we had the best crew and staff ever. I think it rated as my favorite cruise in quite some time. The ship was beautiful, and easy to navigate. We've sailed her several times over the years.
