  1. Hi, those prices do sound good.

Do you know if you can go in and order "a la carte" without having lunch or dinner? I like to have sushi appetizers before we go to dinner in other restaurants.

    Thanks.

Yes, you can order it as an app before dinner, or any time it is open. I did this on the Jade a few times and it was great, it works great too when you are traveling with someone that doesn't eat seafood as they can just drink at the bar while you have a roll before dinner!

  2. Probably because the bartender can $0 out the sale and/or refer it to a UBP sale, while the machine isn't so enabled.

They likely don't have enough accounting people to manually manage all of the wine station billings & correlating to UBP purchasers.

I used to work for NCL in on board finance, the way the UBP works (if its the same as it was when I was on board) was that all the drinks were charged as they normally would through the point of sale. We would check a setting to the back end of each guest's account that has the beverage package and then at the end of the cruise we would click a button that would automatically remove all of the bar package purchases from the guest's account. Granted there was a lot of setup on this were each physical item that was in the POS has to be coded to ensure it would automatically remove the charge. We would always have to manually go through the system since there were some items that wouldn't automatically go through. Back when I worked you could only get the beverage pack if it was purchased through group sales prior to the cruise so we didn't have them that often and due to this the point of sale wasn't always matched up correctly to remove all of the eligible beverage pack items. I am sure that now they much better at ensuring the POS system is setup correctly due to the new larger ships and UBP. Also, if you notice from the first post the extra $95.12 was listed as being from the garden cafe, the original poster did not state that it was from them adding back the wine dispenser but something about a bar hop. A good thing to keep in mind, on board the ship they will keep all of the signed receipts for some time after the cruise ended. This is to help with any discrepancies that arise after the cruise has ended. Anytime a guest questioned a charge post cruise, Miami would email the ship and we would have to pull the slip, scan it, and email it to Miami. They would then provide the guest with the slip to show if the charge was legitimate or not. If you every have a discrepancy call Miami as soon as possible, since if too much time has passed, they will be able to produce the charge slip. If it is too late, then its your word against NCL and it is obviously not as cut and dry on questioning a charge.

  3. What is also interesting is if you click on the What's On board section and go to bars it lists the Sugarcane Mojito Bar. Wonder if this is a mistake or if they re-branded one of of the bars (Possibly the old Star Bar?). They would need to keep some sort of bar up there to service Cagney's and Moderno.

    My hunch was correct: http://www.seatrade-insider.com/news/news-headlines/norwegian-jewel-adds-osheehans-pub-carlos-bake-shop-scrubbers-and-shore-power-capability.html

  5. I was on the Jade recently, and the inputs do work (on the new flat screen TVs they put on board). While the remote does not have an input selection, there is an input selection button on the top of the TV and it does work. (I was in a balcony so I can't say if anything was different on larger ones that would be in the suites).

  6. Hi Everyone,

I know that the T&C of the Beverage Packages says that it is not available from March 1 - April 15 (Due to Spring Break). I was wondering if it is still offered on European sailings during that time since an 11 day Mediterranean cruise is not a typical Spring Break cruise (like a 7 day out of Miami or NYC). I used the Beverage Package on my last cruise, it was great just not worrying about the bill and trying drinks I would not otherwise try in case I didn't like them. I just hope someone has experience from last year on a European sailing as it would be great to get the UBP again for my upcoming Jade cruise.

  7. I used to work onboard NCL in the finance department and what we did was as follows (same for both debit card and credit cards as the system doesn't distinguish between the two). Once the ship sets sail from the embark port we would run a program that would ask for $300 authorization for all credit cards that were ententered into the system while boarding. Then as you spend onboard the system would ask for additional authorization to cover all charges. For example if your account has a $500 balance the system would ask for the $200 additional authorization. We would run the system about 3 times a day to ensure we had enough authorization at all times.
