  1. I am SO ready to go on another cruise.  Several family members and friends are, also.  Most of us have gotten our vaccinations, or are in the process; however, the general consensus is:  We do not want to have to wear masks on the ship 24/7.  While it is to be expected that they would be required in ports of call, I feel (and am not alone) that until the cruise lines make vaccinations mandatory in order to go on the ships, I would rather wait a couple more years to see what happens with herd immunity.  I am compliant with mask regulations, don't get me wrong.  I believe in the responsibility of it.  Personally, I hate wearing a mask.  I wear glasses, and they fog up constantly.  I have anxiety issues, and the masks exacerbate this, immensely.  Right now, my clan is targeting summer/fall of 2022 for our next cruise.  I am willing to go sooner, depending on the restrictions.

  2. My sister and I will be on the Grand Princess over Christmas.  She was out shopping tonight and sent me a picture of an ugly (and I do mean UGLY) Christmas sweater and asked if I thought there might be an "Ugly Sweater" contest or party on our cruise.  I said I would ask on CC.

  3. Just a tip, for people with back issues.

I use an adjustable Sleep Number bed, and find flat hotel and cruise ship beds to be excruciatingly painful for my arthritic back. I go to Walmart and get a pool floatie mattress to take on cruises. Inflating it and letting just a little air out and putting it under the sheets on the beds makes all the difference for me (between smiling in the morning, or crying in the bathroom all night.)

  4. do you know if there was a place on board the Joy to sing karaoke?  I am going to be with a group of 14 family/friends, and a couple have asked about karaoke.  I've never sung karaoke, but I said I would research it.

Also, are the tables in the Observation Lounge coffee table height, or dining table height?  I like to find a place to relax and color, for a while, when my feet give out.  Usually I have to go to the buffet area (between meals), but I hate to take up the space, there from people looking to get a meal.

  5. I will be traveling to Alaska on the Joy, on September 7, 2019, with a group of 14 family/friends.  A couple of them are NUTS for karaoke, and were asking if there was a place on the ship that has that.  I said I would try to find out, so here I am …… searching for answers from the people who would know.

  6. I guess I've been really lucky. I've been on 8 cruises (Holland, Norwegian, Carnival), and my 9th is coming up in 3 days.

I rarely see children at all, on the ships. I my see them in the afternoon, in the buffet, when they come in for an ice cream snack, and once I saw a cluster of them, on a Holland ship, and they were participating in an organized scavenger hunt (they were really cute about it, too.) I have seen a few in hallways, but they always seemed polite and stepped aside for me.

I will admit, most of my cruises have been when school was in session, but one was in July, and I had no kid complaints. I am a widow in my early 60's and will be the first to sigh and roll my eyes when around disruptive children in public places .... but so far, cruise ships haven't been those places for me.

Now, once, on a Carnival ship, coming back from Alaska to Seattle, we stopped in Victoria (or Vancouver) and picked up a large number of overnight party cruisers. All the people who had already been on the ship just went to bed early, that night. It was terrible! Not a one of them was under 21. It was funny to see all the hungover people disembarking the next morning, though. Haven't sailed Carnival, since.

  7. My sister and I are booking a mini-suite on the Norwegian Jewel to Alaska in July 2015. The highest we've ever gone has been a verandah cabin on any cruise line.

Before finalizing our reservations, though, I'd like an opinion regarding best position in the ship - port, starboard, forward or aft - is most desirable (and why.) Keep in mind, we are going to Alaska in July, so want the best scenery views possible (for a mini-suite.)

  8. OK, so I'm a bit behind......

I came across a pocket of un-tagged photos on my computer, left over from a cruise I took in 2008. HAL Westerdam, Western Caribbean

I am trying to re-create the exact itinerary (ports of call, etc.), so I can tag the photos with better info than what my camera gave them. :o

    Nearest I can guess:

    12-8-2008, depart Ft. Lauderdale

12-9, Half Moon Cay (or at sea?)

12-10, at sea (or Half Moon Cay?)

    12-11, ?????

    12-12, Grand Caymans

    12-13, Costa Maya, Mexico

    12-14, at sea

12-15, arrive back at Ft. Lauderdale

If anyone can help me out, or point me to a link for a review of that particular cruise, I'd be ever so grateful. That particular cruise was a strange one, for me, anyway, because my sister was working on the ship (Westerdam) as a nurse, and got transferred to the Veendam when we docked at Costa Maya, due to an outbreak on that ship. I think I sort of shelved that cruise (for a later do-over), maybe because I felt abandoned , which may be why I never did anything with my photos. Still need to do that "do-over", though.
