  1. We are travelling on Allure of the Seas in suite with balconies. We are going with two 3 year old boys. We want to take all measures possible to child-proof the rooms, particularly the balcony doors. I've heard/read they are hard to open but we don't want to take any chances.

I'm thinking of putting those stick on magnetic sensors alarms that are triggered when doors or windows are open. Or putting one of those door handle jams (like a stick that wedges between the door handle and the floor, but use it to prop the door closed.

Naturally we will instruct our kids never to touch the doors but we don't want to take any chances.

Anyone else have similar issues or concerns and how did you deal with it? Any other tips, suggestions, or ideas would be greatly appreciate.

  2. Hi everyone. I assume if you book excursions through the cruise line and they know the ages of your children, that they make sure that the transportation is safe for your kids.

We are travelling on Allure of the Seas with two 3 year old boys who ordinarily travel by auto in car seats (obviously because it's the law in most places in the US). Our ship stops in Nassau, St. Thomas, & St. Maarten. How do families with small children do things on their own (not booked through the cruise)?

Do people just skip using car seats with taxis? How exactly does this work? We have yet to travel anywhere outside the US with our toddlers and have always has our own transportation with car seats.

    Thanks!

  3. Our ship stops in St. Maarten and because our kids (two 3 year old boys) are fascinated with airplanes, we though the Airport beach would be the BEST thing to do.

Is it worthwhile to book this through the cruise line or just do it on our own. Our biggest concerns are safety getting to and from the beach. We've never travelled without our own vehicle with our children, so car seats have never been an issue. How do parents deal with getting rides to and from these types of 'activities' if they don't book through the cruise?

Any other tips, ideas, or suggestions regarding this 'excursion' with our toddlers would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I just wanted to be absolutely certain about this. I just got off the phone with an RCCL representative who told me that we will not need passports for our cruise. We are 2 adults travelling with our two 3 year old children.

They said that the adults will need 2 forms of ID but that the children can travel with a copy of their birth certificate alone.

We are going on Allure of the Seas departing from Ft. Lauderdale and returning to Ft. Lauderdale with stops in St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and The Bahamas.

So is this correct? No passports needed for anyone?

  5. Your options are limited because of their age. Coral World, Butterfly Garden, Kon Tiki boat ride, beach day at Magens, and beach day at Emerald Beach are all toddler friendly.

We live near the beach so we would be more interested in other types of activities like Coral World, Butterfly Garden or Kon Tiki boat ride. Any thoughts on which ones are most entertaining for toddlers?

  6. We did this. Once we got to port we went to the hotel and checked in and got our passes. We went to Atlantis and when the kids got tired we went to the hotel, showered and changed clothes. Then we left. It was well worth it. I can't remember how much it cost but it was much cheaper than what the ships were offering and having that place to change clothes and shower was good.

I just joined this board to ask this very question (among others).

How much schlepping back and forth was involved between getting from cruise ship to Comfort Suites, then to Atlantis, then back to CS, then back to ship? (in terms of time & walking distance & convenience) Reason I ask is that we are travelling with 2 toddlers which makes hustling around from one place to another a little more challenging. If it were just me and my spouse, it would be much less of an issue I'm sure.

    Thanks!
