  1. I would give Wick.. Campers a miss - they have been on various Current affair shows as a dodgy bunch and are really aimed at young backpackers

As mentioned, Jucy are a good basic set up

Vroom is a search engine for all car rentals and will give you perhaps 6 rental car agencies and their prices to compare - like Webjet on 4 wheels lol

We drove around south island of New Zealand, without a map - just headed north out of Christchurch and came back in south 2 weeks later - we had a standard large 4 cylinder and a tent/gas cooker and had the best time ever, the best...... (it was January and no campers were available).... we swam in freezing pebbled rivers, experienced snow falling and had an amazing time

As for here in Australia - omg... just go and do it - this is the most fabulous country and you don't need an expensive set up often waiting deters people from doing what they wish to do in life thinking they need this and that and lots of $$$$ - just go and do it while you can, well that's how I think - always its a consideration of the Wet Season in the North which will halt travels and at that time generally hot conditions all over Australia but there are always ways around that - but please come on over any time

  2. Hi Bazzaw

Glad you enjoyed your cruise - was following via various Shipcam pics etc posted by others on here - it sure looks a great itinerary - when things settle hopefully you can round it all up in a post - I am interested in doing this cruise after the RTW next year - on reading the posts here - I shall stop :) - ohhh well - it should be a fantastic RTW - its what we make out of it and take out of it

    Welcome back

  3. ....yawns..... 4 hours sleep and raring to go.....(it had been a funny night at work, a Pom an American with 2 Aussies and Security hehe :D)

Some people think that just having a day in a port is not enough time and therefore a waste of time cruising - but its all about the adventure as well of getting to those ports - well, that's what I say - you must love the ocean and looking at the ink blue water - the ports are a break and a land adventure:cool:

  4. ....and thats a shame Codster

Catch a mean flathead myself............ wonder if I could smuggle a nice shiny lure onboard.... there would be some good Queenies/Spaniards and stunning Dorados out there haha

Can remember as a child on cruises with my parents, the crew fishing off the back of the ship at Suva wharf/kids diving for kids the pax threw overboard:)

  5. I would bite the bullet and go for it

You never know what life deals out to you and yours

I have recently tackled whether to do the World Cruise - and finally just went ahead and booked it - had to figure out what sort of job I may have when I get back but it seems to have all fallen into place - lots of saving and a bit of overtime between now and May next year

If you can afford it - then do it imho...... as for $$$$$ - its like any holiday - you can spend spend spend or be careful and not need so many dollars - having travelled a fair bit around the world I can attest to that - while raising a relatively large family have travelled quite broadly - and my kids, well, they are just fantastic and worldly too and ummm travelling in mums footsteps and seeing the world before babies and weddings etc etc - what more could I hope for - they do Uni and then off around the world

    U go girl.....:)

  6. Thanks lyndarra - good idea re charger :)

I will ask the Service Dept what they think Adidas when I take it in next

Swissmiss - don't be jealous :) - I know what you mean :) - its been a plan for a long time, when my kids were little - they are still teens/20s and 'ohhh no mum - you are spending the inheritance'!!! lol - I do like that TV ad hahaha - noooo - they are happy as - although its been a budgeting/work and time off decision - but - bursting with happiness - its definitely going to happen -

  7. - when I am away for 3 and a half months on a Round The World cruise

I live 'right on the ocean', close enough to have to clean the salt spray on the windscreen each day I drive - but mechanically, is there anything in particular I should put in place

Car will be in a carport and Im not keen on leaving keys with anyone (outside the family who all live 100's of ks away

    Thankyou

  8. I do my own thing - ie. always do my own bookings

One trip, to the U S, I had 28 bookings with travel, hotels, tours etc and not one failed or had issue with

I like to do my own bookings as I usually know where I am straight away with the booking, can change with no charge or knowing there will be a charge etc

Always read blogs on others who have gone to my interested places - that's what excites me to go :)

  9. Yep - I have the same problem with the work computers and don't even try to have a look around P and O there anymore - its just impossible with the relatively new Home page set up

At home Princess Home page was a bit dodgy last week but has settled down and all the normal front page items are there but P and O remains a Home Page/Menu disaster

  10. Hi - am currently in the throes of deciding to World Cruise

Having done quite a few cruises - I would figure a 100 day RTW would need about 5000 dollars pp of 'spending money' to cover all expenses after arriving onboard - not taking into account tips/travel insurance/new baggage etc

Based on - I don't drink alcohol - I don't smoke - do a mix of ship excursions, private excursions and self walking/hop on hop off tours - buy a small amount of ships photos - do not over indulge in the onboard shops and do not do spas - but - have lots of fun and just enjoy being onboard as well as reaching a destination

Never feel I miss out on anything

Of course, the credit card is always there if extra $$$ is needed

  11. Thanks so far for all your great and thought provoking replies :)

And no, although I am a mum, my teens and 20s will be here and overseas working n travelling doing their own thing and not cruising - it was a question to get the feel of 'who goes' on RTW cruises but thanks

Ive not long got home from work and last night my workmates were sayng "do it do it"!!!! all envious for me to make the decision to go lol - my boss will have to put me on Casual as I am a Contract worker but that should be OK - am sure it will be the start of 'long cruises' hehe and Cas would suit me better - no ties and my own decision making when I will be at work and when I will be travelling

A dream of mine was to reach Hammerfest and North Cape is 100 ks from there - as good as I reckon - and fabulous Iceland and Malta !!

Mum will be there in spirit - she loved cruising and the sea...

    To be continued........ :D
