  1. Never said it couldn't, just thought the OP was exaggerating a bit about the movie selection by the pool. Maybe they're actually on a Disney cruise instead. :')

No you implied I was lying which I am not.

I did do 3 contracts on ships yes. Never on RC and in the 90’s so it was very different. Also being a crew member you obviously don’t get the same experience as being a passenger.

Like I have said, we’ve enjoyed our time as a family however cruising on a large ship is not for us!

Have a lovely time those of you headed on cruises soon :)

  2. We still have a couple of days left of our cruise, I will say my observations are mine alone and completely down to personal taste.

Embarking in NJ took us twice as long as it did to actually get from Manhattan to the terminal. Getting to the drop off point once we’d arrived took 2 hours it didn’t seem very organised, however, once dropped off security and check in were very quick and we were onboard 20 mins later.

Our cabin was (is) nice, no complaints. Large bed and pretty comfortable. Shower is nice and hot with good pressure.

Due to our schedules this was the only time we had for us all to be together at the same time, if things were different we would have chosen a different cruise.

The ports were disappointing, the Alligator jungle excursion in Port Canaveral was pretty awful although the people running the adventure jungle were very very nice and had great senses of humour the whole outfit was pretty poor. Rescued animals in very small concrete enclosures, having to watch an alligator with its mouth taped shut passed around like a cuddly toy. No lunch provided but you could buy fried alligator or a burger if you wanted. It was a very long 5+ hours.

Cococay felt like a tropical Blackpool in the UK, masses of bodies in a small space the water wasn’t great for snorkelling and overall just felt very over commercialised.

The food is mediocre at best, I’m a vegetarian and there really isn’t much of a choice for those like me. Salads and a veggie curry, I’ve seen broccoli on offer no other vegetables. Plenty of fruit though which is great.

Stepdaughter and husband both meat eaters said the meat is always very over cooked.

The staff are wonderful having done 3 8 month contracts on ships I know how hard they work and they have been exceptional they are the ones who make the cruises.

Mary Poppins is played on repeat by the pool. The ship I think is too big for us, it’s mass produced food and very commercialised.

We have enjoyed spending time together as a family and we haven’t hated our trip but I don’t feel we got our money’s worth and for what we paid I expected much higher standards.

I’m not at all knocking those who love cruising, it’s just not for us.

  3. Currently on the AOS 1st cruise, enjoying the rain and being bounced around it’s all very soothing.

Just thought I’d mention as there’s been a previous review about lack of sanitiser.

Purell is EVERYWHERE on here and we are all required to wash hands before entering the windjammer.

Food isn’t awful though it’s not fabulous but we’ll survive, I’m quite glad as the excess lbs will hopefully not find me after all!

  4. Hi Wandering Dust - we're on the same sailing, and our 15 year old (Brooke) is also shy among new folks. We'll follow the other posters' advice and encourage her to visit the teen club area on the first night. We also bought her an arcade card (20% off pre-sale) so she could hang out there a bit, thinking she could make friends that way. Hope our kiddos meet!

    -Marie from Upstate NY

I hope so too! She’s decided to go to the teen club so I’m sure they’ll get to know each other. :)

  5. We’re on AOS next week, I will have spent a month back to back flying with very little down time before we arrive and I am feeling just a little tired (and a bit grumpy!)

I like my space and sharing a smallish cabin with 2 others is at some point going to get on my pip so where are the quiet spaces I can retreat to to get some peace? Are there any?!

  6. I’ve seen some say you can put a limit on a minors sea pass but it’s not adhered to which doesn’t give me much piece of mind!

I know I can check our account each evening but I’d rather be able to put a specific limit and know that it won’t be exceeded.

Can you only do this if you have a cash account or does it also apply to credit cards?

  7. We always have the same problem flying back to UK after a cruise. Most transatlantic flights are very late afternoon/evening. Thinking this time either doing the RC tour of New York with drop off at the airport, but its pretty expensive. Or booking into a day room at a hotel at the airport. Wish they would have late departure (for a fee) like they often do on cruises in Europe.

A late fee option would be great and solve a lot of issues.

  8. There is so much to see and do in NYC besides buying cosmetics. Walk the high line, grab a bite at Chelsea Market. Explore Central Park , take a ride on the Shark, Top of the Rock, 9/11 museum, book The Ride, get shakes at Black Tap...

Tell that to our 14 year old! Love your ideas, will definitely look at those options thank you.

  9. We’ve got 2 days in NYC before the cruise, teen will have bought most of Sephora and the contents of every drugstore beauty counter. If possible would like to skip more time downtown! Looked at Jersey Gardens but think that’s a bit far and again there’s the luggage issue. I’m starting to think Bayonne is a rubbish place to disembark [emoji51]

  10. We’re on the Adventure next month our flight back to the UK is 7pm on a Friday night from JFK.

We’re disembarking at Cape Liberty, trying to figure out what to do. We’ll have a teen with us who has already voiced her opinion about the RCCL Manhattan tour. (It was a distinct no thanks)

Given we’ll have luggage and there doesn’t appear to be anywhere to store it unless we go into NYC and the traffic issue which won’t leave us much time downtown. Any suggestions on what we can do? Thank you

  11. Booked for July, a balcony cabin, paid a non refundable deposit of £450.

At the time of looking for quotes this seemed decent however a new TA has come back to me and offered a spacious balcony cabin with $600 obc or the cruise only for £350 cheaper no obc.

The ta we booked with gave us $300 obc for the more than the latest ta has offered however I wasn’t given the option of the cruise only no credit at all which actually works out cheaper and a slightly bigger cabin.

I’m waiting to see if my ta can match it, If not are we stuck or can rccl do anything? Hope that made sense!

  12. What sailing in July? We're booked on the the July 13th sailing, cabins 7301-7303...Our son is 14 and our daughter is 12, their first cruise also...

We’re on the 20th, I hope you have a fabulous time!

Have spoken to her tonight and she seems reluctant to enroll in teen club..she’s quite shy, obviously we won’t force her but I do feel she would benefit from making a few friends outside of her usual group here at home. She’s never been out of Europe I wonder if it will be a bit of a culture shock for her!
