  1. Last year I was on Epic in the med with my daughter who is visually impaired. From embarkation to disembarkation she was treated so well. They couldn't do enough for her. It made her so happy that NCL cared enough to ensure she had a personal orientation of the ship, got her seated at shows on seats that suited her disability, tried to get her a seat in a busy buffet on sea days as she tried to weave in and out of people with her cane. Nothing was an issue. It made me so happy to see her so content, confident and happy to cruise. She has the cruising bug now. Only thing, she won't be with me in a few weeks cruising out of Port Canaveral so I won't get that special special treatment but nonetheless I will have a great time.

    Thanks NCL.

  2. I will qualify my comments by saying I am not a cruising pro. Have cruised twice with RCCL some years ago and once so far with NCL (EPic) with another cruise booked for next year.

Love the freestyle aspect of NCL.

In my opinion, the food and entertainment was far superior on NCL.

I prefer the pool decks on RCCL. I prefer the interior of ships on RCCL. More light, more Windows, more sense of space.

I prefer the walking/jogging path on RCCL.

The cabins I had on RCCL were larger and more spacious.

For me living in Europe, an NCL cruise is way cheaper than RCCL. So if I can compromise on my likes/dislikes then my pocket loves me and I can cruise more often.

  3. I am so glad we bought the water package. If you drink a lot of water ordinarily then you will drink more on a cruise. We got the 12 litre bottle option for 2 of us. We asked our cabin attendant to empty the mini bar so we could fill it with our water. It took 24 hours to really chill the water effectively but once cold it was great. We brought our water with us on excursions.

We also had the UBP, and we got great mileage from it. Even though it was port intensive we had drinks before dinner, during dinner and after dinner. If we got back to the ship relatively early in the afternoon/early evening we always got a cocktail up in the wave bar and brought it back to the cabin.

  4. Thanks guys! I'm glad it was helpful.

I read every thread on here about the Epic and ports of call before I went on my cruise and got plenty of good advice so glad to share my story.

Suzy69.... I had the same concern and that was one of the reasons why I booked a private transfer. Our flight was at 1020am.

When I looked out on the port at 530am there were at least 5 taxis waiting. When we got off at about 0615am there was still at least three taxis there so not many people were leaving that early like we were. That said there were others walking off and getting on large 52seater coaches which were NCL transfers to airport.

So I guess as ollienbertsmum said all going well, you dock very early at 5am which gives you plenty of time to get to the airport. Obviously there was absolutely no traffic at that time of the morning so it was a 15 min journey to the airport.

  5. Disembarkation

We were up early after 5am and got ourselves together. We went to the buffet for breakfast at 545am. I don’t know how she does it but DD had a full big breakfast at that hour of the morning. I could only manage ¼ of a toasted bagel and a mug of coffee. Then we walked off the ship, collected our bags and our private car transfer picked us up on time and dropped us to the airport.

It was a great cruise overall. Would I cruise on Epic again? Yes, I would. There are features on this ship that I don’t like but that would apply to any cruise line. The food was very good overall, the entertainment was fantastic. The disability support that we received was exceptional. Well done NCL.
