  1. Believe it or not, it did occur to me that maybe you meant cellular but didn't want to make that assumption - the meg vs. gig was enough of an assumption on my part. ;)

ETA for the OP: as originalgeek mentions, most of the reports here are that there does not appear to be significant differences (sometime no difference at all) between the premium plan and the value. We had the value plan on Conquest two months ago and it was spotty just in terms of connectivity and when it was connected to the ship wifi, the speed was tolerable but there were things I could not do. I would be prompted to upgrade to the premium plan.

I was just wondering with the "upgraded" internet on the newest ship if it were an improvement.

  2. It was on Carnival Liberty, and at Guest Services, when I had specifically asked if we could call the 1-800 number for my credit card to sort out what was wrong with my card, they specifically told me that they do not offer a courtesy phone. We didn't want to use the room phone, because we did not know how long such a call would take, how much it would cost, and it could have put us over the top. Maybe the rep at guest services was wrong, maybe their policies have changed since then, maybe it varies depending on each ship's management, but on this particular instance, they did NOT allow me to make that call.

If this ever happens again. Which I hope it doesn’t for anyone. Just ask to speak to the purser officer they’re in charge of the financial transactions on the ship and is in charge of guest services. Ask to speak to them I’m sure you’ll get better results. There is always a bigger fish to ask.

  3. If you only have service once a day that tray can be in your room for up to 24hrs (depending when your food arrives) that can get pretty dank if you leave it in your stateroom just put it in the hall. Its just how it gets done and they get rid of it fairly quick. Also a call to housekeeping for heads up will probably help. It’s not like people are walking the hall dodging trays from every single room anyway.

  4. I've used the same cc on cruises for years. All cruises are out of NY....to Canada, Bahamas, Bermuda.

On one cruise (NCL) last year I went to purchase a watch on the first sea day. Declined! Told to visit guest services....where I was informed that "just because you use it to check in, the card isn't actually processed at that time."

I was allowed a courtesy call to the bank. "The bank" told me that I didn't inform them that I was leaving the country. Huh...I never inform them that I'll be on a cruise. In any case, is sailing out of NY, and back to NY, as far as spending really "leaving the country?" They allowed the credit and now I call multiple cards "just in case".

I had DH with me, and several other cards between us, but I had wondered what would have happened if they didn't let me call the bank.

It happened last year my bank put a stop on the card. Because suspicion of theft. Carnival gave me a cell phone that can call out free of charge to make my call in private to the bank. Whoever says they won’t let you call out is crazy. They’ll let you call whoever to get you to spend more money. Long story short it was corrected in 5 minutes just had to let them know I was on a ship and also what island I was visiting.

  5. I just got off the Horizon on Sunday. I used to write thorough reviews of every cruise, but Photobucket has my account held hostage right now due to the bandwidth my reviews were generating. And I’m too cheap to pay the 500 or so bucks they want to charge me to make my photos viewable again, so I gave up. But I can sum up my experience and answer any questions that you have.

Firstly, I loved the ship. It’s my favorite one so far. It never felt crowded anywhere, except for the Main Theater. We went to one show any actually had to sit in the upper seats (never had to do that before). I see what people mean about the Liquid Lounge being horrible on the Vista. It really is. First of all, it is so much smaller than the theaters on other ships. The moveable chairs on the bottom floor are not practical, and there are so many seats in the theater that have no view at all due to the huge floor to ceiling posts. Such a horrible design. Because of this, we never bothered to go to any other shows except for that one. Which is a shame, because I love Carnival’s shows.

The food on the ship was excellent, as was the service. We had YTD, and never had to wait for a table for four. We ate lunch one day at Bonsai Teppanyaki and it was the best teppanyaki that I have ever had. For dinner, we did Jiji’s Asian Kitchen one night, as well as the Steakhouse on the last night. Jiji’s was phenomenal. I wish they had this restaurant in my hometown. I would eat there a lot. The Steakhouse was good, except for what I would consider another design flaw: it is right next to the Piano Bar, and there was no separation between the two venues. They seated us at a table that was right next to the Piano Bar. It was so loud that we could not hear ourselves talk during dinner. I appreciate that some people love the Piano Bar, and I have no complaints about the music he was playing, but I paid to have dinner in the Steakhouse, not in a bar. I didn’t appreciate this at all, and will be providing my feedback to Carnival.

We were in a Havana Cabana that we were upsold to for a small amount (originally booked in an interior). Given that we only had one sea day and were sailing with friends not in a Havana room, we didn’t get to use the Havana pool area at all. But, it was nice to experience the room. I can say that I probably would not book a Cabana room on the Horizon for future cruises. The appeal of these rooms is that you can easily walk to your patio from the pool area. However, you cannot lock the patio door from the patio. So if you want to go to the pool and leave you room locked, you have to leave the room from the regular door, walk down the hallway, then through the Havana Bar. This doesn’t seem at all convenient. My understanding is that the Vista Cabanas are different, and that you can lock the patio doors behind you. I’m not sure why they changed this for the Horizon.

I thought I would miss having an atrium that goes all the way up, but I really didn’t. The funnel with changing patterns (whatever you call it), is really fun. Though truth be told, I still prefer the larger atriums with the glass elevators, if I had to choose. But, it’s not a dealbreaker. I also prefer the old Farcus decorated ships much more than the modern look that the new ships have. I like the Vegas glitz and glam feel of the old ships.

We choose morning and evening service. Our room steward (or stewardess?) Laura was exceptional. She filled up the ice in our room both in the morning and in then evening. Without being asked. She was great.

I did a cabin crawl and it seems that all of the room types seem to have shrunk a bit. But from what I have heard, they are still bigger than the rooms on other cruise lines. What Carnival has done with adding the Family Harbor and Havana cabins is great, though. Smart move on their part.

The gift shop on this ship was incredibly tiny. You really can’t fit more than a couple people in it at a time. They did have another Horizon Inaugural store that was a bit bigger, though. I’m not sure if this will become the regular gift shop once the inaugural season is over, however. Hopefully it will. I was disappointed that they no longer sell the ceramic ship magnets that I collect. They have switched over to plastic ones.

There is a Victoria’s Secret now on this ship. But like the other stores onboard, not something I would spend my money on. I don’t sail to go shopping for things I can buy at home. The Cherry on Top has a ice cream shop, which I think is also new for this ship.

I’m typing this out on my phone, so I realize this isn’t the best written review. I’m still pretty jet lagged, too, from the long flight home yesterday. I’m sure that I am forgetting something, but for now, that’s all I can think of. It was a fantastic cruise. Loved every bit of it and I hope I get to sail on this ship again.

Thanks a bunch. I hope I don’t get sat next to the piano in the steakhouse. This review is quite helpful I’m glad you enjoyed your voyage.

  6. Thanks I’ve seen that (well as much of it as I could. It is in German. Lol) and I’ve read a lot of vista reviews besides the things mentioned which I would like to hear about. I’m also curious as if everything was running smoothly and how the director and staff were and if anyone experienced anything odd on there time aboard. Thanks

  7. Not even close to making your point. "Slipping up" as you call it is "unknowingly" breaking a rule. Completely understandable. Knowingly breaking the rules is deceitful. Try rereading the OP's post. He/she didn't ask if if one

You won I quit. There is nobody better or more pious then you. Move on I did. Enjoy your future cruises and life yelling at kids to get off your lawn.
