  1. My family is booked on a NCL cruise this summer.  When we booked it, it wasn't one of the latitudes extra point cruises, but now it is. I don't know if I will automatically get extra points, could get extra points but need to do something or have no chance at getting extra points.  Because of my lack of experience, I would be interested in the collective experience and wisdom of this group on what I can or should do.  To be clear, I don't feel I am entitled to extra points as I happily booked it before extra points were offered, and I won't shift into  "vacation ruined" mode if I don't them, but if there is something I could do now to get some extra points I would be happy to have them.

    Thanks for any help!

  2. My family will be visiting Klaipeda Lithuania for a day on a cruise his summer.  We prefer DIY over cruise excursions but would want to visit Palanga as well as old town Klaipeda and don't know if it would make more sense to do taxi, ride share or rent a car for the day.  I know this isn't a very common port, but does anyone have insight or experience?

    Thanks for any help!

  3. On my last cruise, because I had a deal through my travel agent that my on board expenditures would be reimbursed up to a set amount, I went to customer service and added tips for our butler and concierge to our account (incremental to the standard service fee which I know doesn't cover butlers and concierges).  When I tried to explain to our butler that I had tipped him this way he kept saying "I won't get that".  I assumed that he wasn't understanding me and that he thought I was referring to the standard service fee, but as I get ready for my next cruise (where we have the same reimbursement for onboard spending that we wouldn't hit unless we use it for tips) I am wondering if tipping through our on board account isn't the right way to go.  Any thoughts or relevant experience?

Predictable response. Good luck to you.

I appreciate the general responses, but would particularly appreciate comments that relate to direct experience on disconnects between NCL and port itineraries.  Literally all sources I can find other than NCL (local port sites, general sites) suggest a shuffled itinerary.  Any direct experience suggesting that this will be the real itinerary or not?

  5. I am taking a Baltic cruise this August on the Dawn.  I was looking at the port schedules to see if there would be other boats in port on the same day at our stops (to anticipate potential crowds) and noticed that which port we are scheduled to be in on which day is different according to the port schedules (and I checked multiple sites) than in my official NCL agenda.  This hasn't been the case on any of my previous cruises, so I don't know if the port schedule is fluid or if I should be expecting a notification of change from NCL at the last minute.  While not a huge deal I like to arrange independent excursions and don't want to book several tours only to not be in that port on that day.  Any help or insight is appreciated.

  6. We have a day in Naples and would like to get to Pompeii by 9am, so were planning to take a taxi for a group on 4.  We are less time constrained on returning to Naples, so were going to take the train back.  Will taxis at the port do a one way trip or are they just looking for round trips?  How much should I expect to pay for the one way taxi?

    Thanks

  7. We will have a port day in Rome / Civitavecchia on August 16th.  If we wanted to get to the Collesseum by 9:15 using the regional trains, it looks like we should plan to catch the 7:44 train.  To do so, when we would need to be at the train station (assuming we buy tickets online in advance)?  When would we need to leave the boat?

    Thanks for the help!

  8. We have sailed in family suites multiple times and really enjoyed the layout and space for our family of four.  Twice we did it on jewel class ships where we didn't have to be in the haven to have a family suite and once we bit the bullet and paid for the Haven.  As we look at another cruise the Haven costs are getting prohibitive (I know everything is relative, but this is from our perspective).  This would be on the Getaway so there is no no-Haven family suite option.  Our second choice would be to get two cabins, but does this preclude us from trying to bid for an upgrade to a family suite?  If you have four people in two cabins can you upgrade to a one family suite?  (My guess is the answer is no, but would love any more informed views)

    Thanks!

  9. Apologies for what may be a rudimentary question. If you buy the spa pass in advance of your cruise do you pay in advance or is it charged to your account? I am sailing in a few months and have a large amount of onboard credits, so the spa pass would be a good use of the credits, though I'm not sure I would do it for "real" money.

    Thanks!
