  1. Thanks for all the responses! We definitely try to make the best of any vacation. I was just worried about the dining and whatnot. Someone had mentioned that there aren't as many free food spots, which is a bit disappointing to me. We were thinking of Grandeur of the Seas on a 5 day trip to Bermuda. Does anyone have experience with this boat directly to compare it to Carnival? On carnival, we've been on the Fantasy and Destiny class ships.

  2. Hey everyone!

My husband and I have done a few Carnival cruises, and we're thinking of trying out a Royal Caribbean cruise. I have spent so much time looking into all the intricate details of what is and is not included, what to expect for each cruise, etc. For this cruise, I've begun looking at threads outlining what people liked/disliked about each cruiseline. What can you tell me about how they differ? What things weren't on Carnival that I can expect on RC, and vise versa?

    Thanks!

    Brianna

  3. Hello!

My husband and I have been on a few cruises and recently had our first balcony stateroom. Planning our future cruises we would also really like another balcony, however it's almost double the price of an inside or oceanview. How do you get good deals on balconies, or how do you convince yourself that you don't need a balcony and just get an oceanview?

Sidenote, we aren't very social and prefer to spend time alone in our room (and on our balcony.) We both really like being frugal and not spending lots of money. And I recognize this is a silly question but it's deferring us from wanting a cruise vacation altogether because we know we can go to the beach somewhere for cheaper than a balcony room. What're your thoughts? Have you struggled with these thoughts too?

  4. Thanks again! She's pretty excited, and I'm trying not to tell her things like what to do or not to do. I still want her to enjoy the freedom of cruising, but I don't want her blindsided by things. For example, she didn't know there would be an elegant night so I made sure she knew that so she could enjoy it if she wanted (and not be embarrassed walking into the dining room with normal clothes on). She didn't know checking in early would be better than last minute (I think she thought it was like a hotel where you just check in when you get there). She wasn't sure about the ID and birth certificate/passport thing. (She planned on taking them just in case but she didn't know you needed both forms of ID to get on the boat).

Stuff like this I'm trying to help her out with so something doesn't happen and make her cruise stressful.

Is there anything else like this that she should know? I'm looking through the first time cruisers board and it's all "tips" and "tricks" to "maximizing your experience," but I'm not looking necessarily for tips, just for basic things that she may not already know.

  5. Great tips! Anything else? Or other things she may not know? For example, Carnival didn't make her aware of any elegant nights, however I knew she would have one on her cruise so I told her to bring one nice outfit to wear to dinner that night.

  6. Hello!

I'm trying to help out a friend who has never cruised before. I know there is a first time cruisers board on here, but she is extremely busy and doesn't have time to read every thread in it. What would be your advice to a first time cruiser? I've told her little things as I think of them, but you all have a ton of experience. What would you tell her?

She's going on the Conquest, out of Fort Lauderdale, to Nassau and Half Moon Cay (4 day).

    Thanks in advance!

  7. There will be a taxi line just outside of your pier with a board listing the fares in US Dollars; wait your turn and take the first cab in line big enough for your party (there are some van taxis that can handle 10-12 passengers). Fare for up to 4 passengers sharing the cab to Sanchos should be about $17 - same fare will get you back. Most of the cab drivers speak enough English to understand where you are going. If there are no cabs waiting at Sanchos when you are ready to leave the staff there will call for one.

Thanks John! It seems like you've been answering every question I have today, haha.

  8. This may be a silly question, but I'm from a small town where I've never gotten a taxi before. How would I get a taxi in Cozumel from the cruise port to Mr. Sanchos? And will they be speaking English? Approx. how much does it cost? And lastly, how will I get a taxi from Mr. Sanchos back to the boat?

    Thanks everyone

  9. Hey guys,

I posted this a few months ago but it was before refurbishment, but does anyone have any pictures or recent experiences with one of the L shaped cabins?

I'll be on the Victory in a few weeks and scored one of them. I've heard they're a little awkward but they have a bigger-than-standard balcony.

  10. Hampton Inn and Suites Miami Airport South Blue Lagoon

-check in at 3pm, check out at noon.

-POM shuttle there free and 10 per person back

    -Free parking during cruise

    -Amounting to around $125.

    or

Holiday Inn Express Miami-Arpt Ctrl-Miami Springs

    -free breakfast

-check in at 3pm, check out at 11am

-POM shuttle 10 per person each way

-Free parking if using shuttle there and back, otherwise 10 per night.

    -Amounting to around $141.

Does anyone have experience at either of these hotels? We will be driving a good distance to this hotel, so something nice would be nice, however we are bargain hunters and can live with whatever we're given.

Additionally, if anyone has any info on the parking here, I'd appreciate it. I'm hearing that parking is sketchy in a lot of places in Miami, and many opt for parking at the port. While port parking is an option, we would prefer to park at our hotel. If everyone says parking is horrible at both of these places, we may do port parking, but like i said- ideally we would like the hotel and shuttle over.

  11. Thanks guys! We plan on leaving one day, stopping probably around Charleston, SC and staying overnight there. The next day driving to miami, and staying there overnight for our cruise the next morning. We assume it will be about 10 hours of driving a day, which includes our pit stops and everything.

  12. Hello all!

My husband and I will be driving from Pittsburgh, PA to Miami, FL in a few weeks for our cruise. Was wondering if anyone else did a similar drive? If so, any tips or things we must see along the way? We plan on stopping halfway through to get a hotel, so if you also have any recommendations on which hotel you enjoyed?

    Thanks in advance!

  13. I don't see a way to private message John Heald on Facebook(which is what I want to do). I don't want my information public for everyone to see. Am I missing something?

Just checked, when you go to his facebook, it says "Write something on this page" and thats where you send your message. Then to see your post- click on "posts" (on the left) and it will show all of his. On the right of his posts will be some other people's and if you click visitor posts it will take you to all of them (where yours will be located.)

On his Facebook there's a place to post to him. I cant remember exactly what it says. Those posts then aren't visible right away to the public. There's a view visitor posts button and that's where your post will go.

  15. We had Felipe as a CD on the Carnival Valor. He is of Latin decent (Puerto Rico, I believe), and talks with a heavy accent. However is he was great, and he is very approachable. "Whoo Hoo" was his catch phrase, and you will hear it often. He was funny in the Legend's show, were he was Dolly Parton:'). I hope he is on my 14 day Alaskan cruise in Aug 18'. Sorry but I know nothing, nothing, nothing, about Christine.

Wonderful! Thank you for your insight. He seems like fun. :) I hope I get to see him be Dolly Parton!

Does anyone else have experience with either of these CD's?

  16. Does anyone have any info on either of these CD's?

I've never had Felipe but he's on my upcoming cruise! I'd love any input about him! :D

Christine (idk her last name) was my CD on my previous cruise but I don't see her name on any future cruises nor do I even see her name on the list from that time period? Any idea why she isn't listed anywhere?
