  1. Villefranche is a beautiful small town and there is no need to go into Nice or Monaco if you prefer not to. Villefranche offers a great deal and you can head up into the Old Town to explore the medieval alleys and small streets where you will find several restaurants and boutiques selling various goodies. We found some excellent jewellery shops, but we also enjoyed gentle walking seeing the sights and backstreets soaking up the atmosphere.

Along the waterfront to your right from the tender drop off, there are also a selection of bars and shops - the Hotel Welcome is quite famous. Keeping the water on your right, you will come to the beach after a few minutes stroll.

It's a lovely port for a quiet day just mooching around at your own pace. Villefranche is one of our favourite stops and I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much.

Oh my gosh this has made me super excited! Thank you for your help!

  2. Hi guys

I posted this in the Italy ports of call board the other day but it was suggested this may be a better place to post it.

We are heading on our first cruise on Friday and when we dock in Civitavecchia we have opted for a Royal Carribbean excursion "Italian beach transfer" as we really fancied a beach day.

Has anyone been on this trip before? Which beach do they take us to and what is it like? Are there shops and cafes and bars like a "normal" type beach town? What is the actual beach like? And how long does the trip last? I believe we are in port 7-7 and I would have really liked to Wonder around Civitavecchia too so wondering if we would have time. I was told after we booked the excursion that Civitavecchia is a nice place to pass a few hours.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

  3. hi guys

We set sail on our first cruise on Friday which is for our honeymoon yay! We are sailing with royal Caribbean on brilliance of the seas. Super excited to see our ship!

Our first port is villefranche and it will be my birthday on that day! We originally had a trip booked to Monaco on that day which has been cancelled so we have decided to have a day by ourselves in and around villefranche. Just wanting to know how easy is it to get to the main area of villefranche from the port, what ships and cars/cafes/restaurants are available and what the beach is like? I have heard it's a very pretty village. If anyone has any recommendations or advice I would love to hear it.

    Thanks! X

  4. hi guys

Me and my husband go on our first cruise on Friday for our honeymoon booked for us by my parents as a wedding gift. When we booked it we were told me would have "pre-paid tips" included in our price... how does this work? Will the daily service change not be added to our cruise account? If it is is it easily removed? As we prefer to tip who we want to in person.

    Thanks!

  5. Although I appreciate that the mosaics are beautiful and everyone loves them, unfortunately they are really not my cup of tea. As me and my husband have never been on holiday together without our three young children we were really hoping to spend time together relaxing rather than trudging round sight seeing. We would rather sit in a cafe or a bar watching the world go by or on a beach so we can spend time talking and enjoying each other's company. We are just not sure where is the best place for this near ravenna.

  6. Hi guys

Me and my husband haven't booked a trip for our Ravenna stop on our cruise and we would rather have a day just us two relaxing. I was thinking it would be nice to go to a beach town, where we could sit on the beach or browse around shops or sit outside a bar for a drink. We are in Ravenna for 12 hours 7-7 but I am worried about missing the boat so don't want to travel too far away. Can anyone recommend somewhere for us to visit for the day and how to get there? We don't mind paying for taxis if they aren't too expensive.

  7. hi

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could answer a few questions for me as me and my partner will be first time cruisers in September for our honeymoon. We are cruising on brilliance of the seas.

    1) when we booked our cruise we got "paid tips" with the booking, does this mean no gratuities will show on our account?

    2) is there a mini bar in our room? (We have a balcony stateroom) and if so, is there an extra charge for this? We have the largest drinks package, if this makes a difference.

    3) we fly with Air France and have connecting flights Manchester to Paris then Paris to Barcelona. We have been told that we will check our bags in at Manchester and not see them again until we get to our cabin. Is this right? It seems really unbelievable to me!!

    4) what sort of shops can I expect to find on board? I'm an avid shopping fan and will need to get my fix!!!!

    Thank you in advance 😊

  8. Hi guys!

We are off on our first cruise for our honeymoon next year. When we dock at Salerno we are going to take one of the Royal carribbean trips - either Sorrento "on your own" or Capri "on your own". But we are having a hard time deciding which to choose having never been to either place and both looking so amazing! Can anyone who has been to both give us some advice - we are in our mid twenties and don't necessarily want to sight see just shop, go to different bars, grab some lunch, maybe visit a beach (not the be all and end all)

    Thanks

    :)

  9. Hi guys

On the day that our cruise docks in Salerno me and my partner were wanting to get off the boat and do our own thing nice and chilled as it is our honeymoon. We don't really particularly want to sight see and definitely don't want to be dragged around by a tour guide it's not our thing. We want a nice relaxing day exploring a nearby town. Nice bars, possibly some nice restaurants for lunch and maybe some shops. Something picturesque, a beach would be a plus but not essential. We are in our mid 20s and will be on our honeymoon. We don't want to go on public transport would prefer a taxi if possible. Can anyone please advise a local town that can give us all this and a rough transfer time in a taxi please and advice on how easy it would be / the price for a taxi.

    Thanks

  10. Thank you so much for your advice! Very helpful!

We are really keen on having a day in a beach resort too but aren't sure where would be suitable. We don't necessarily want to lay on the beach sunbathing but just wanted to be in the vicinity of the beach. Would Nice be our best bet for this or is there anywhere in Italy that would be suitable?

  11. Hi guys!

We will be spending the day in Montenegro at the end of September 2017. We will have about 7 hours. Heard great things about both kotor and budva and am wondering which to spend the day in, or even if we will have time to see both in one day. We aren't hugely into sight seeing more exploring towns and trying local authentic cuisine and relaxing. Any advice would be appreciated! We don't want a planned trip in Montenegro and would rather explore ourselves as it is our honeymoon.

  12. Hi guys

We are off on our first cruise September 2017 on brilliance of the seas. We will be getting on in Barcelona and stopping at villefranche where we plan to have the day in nice, at florence/pisa, Rome, Ravenna, salerno, two days in Venice and kotor Montenegro. We have never been to any of these places before which is what attracted us to this cruise (with the exception of Barcelona) and are looking for ideas of what to do in these areas. We weren't sure on having too many planned excursions as we will be on our honeymoon and want to spend time together rather than with other people but are worried about how easy it will be to navigate alone. We really enjoy exploring, eating authentic local cuisine and trying new things. We like to relax as it's something we don't often get to do at home as we have young children (who won't be joining us on our cruise). Any suggestions on what to do in any of these ports, where to go and what to see or even what to experience on ship would be greatly appreciated. We are a young couple in our mid twenties (don't know how relevant this is!)

    Thanks everyone!
