  1. I go through the same struggle. My phone died (after 5 years lol) last year and while figuring out what we wanted to buy I purchased a cheap $60.00 smart phone. Our new phones are $700.00 to replace. I am renting cars in two ports and feel I need a phone for emergencies while on shore. We are traveling to Western Caribbean.

I discovered that ATT will give me a SIM card for the "old" phone I have which I can pop in and out by myself. I'll call ATT and they will switch service to old phone. I will use that when going ashore.

Last Caribbean vacation my boyfriend forgot he had his cell phone in his pocket and walk right into the ocean with a three month old phone.

We now have water proof cases.

When I get back I will switch back.

  2. Don't know how to cut and paste lol.

So this is one way price.

It was more to have delivered to a cruise ship.

I think the weight and distance is taken into consideration when they calculate cost.

Below are the various costs from Rye NH to Tampa Fl cruise ship.

I will say a prayer when they pick it up that the seams hold lol.

May put everything in a plastic bag for a real ghetto trip!

  4. I have just signed up to have one bag 💼 picked up at my home to be delivered to my cabin. I will post follow up. My trip leaves Saturday the 21st. Two weeks and two days. They will pick up next Thursday.

I just bought a cheap (hope it holds up) duffle bag. I packed my snorkeling equipment and I love large beach towels. I am required to lock bag.

I will follow up in two weeks on how it went. Below are the prices.

    Under 25 lbs was $104.00

  5. Have all cruisers take a patience test. Those who fail are not allowed to cruise.

Then I would chitchat with the people in the snail 🐌 pace line on how wonderful the cruise was and how sorry I am it's ending!

    That's what I would do.

Time will always pass unless your dead.

What you do with that time that passes can define you.

My dad never wanted to "go" anywhere because it took too long to get there.

I would tell him, you watch a movie for two hours and at the end of the two hours you will still be in your living room.

However, I will be at the beach 🌊.

  6. In 2015, Americans spent more money for bottled water than gasoline.

Most of that expensive water came from city taps in Atlanta and Dallas.

Neither city is famous for great quality tap water.

Due to the high cost of producing fresh water from salt water onboard ships, cruise lines are increasingly loading most of their fresh water in ports. Unless your cruise is a trans-Atlantic or trans-pacific, most of the water in the tanks - and coming out of the taps - is from a city water supply. No salt..........

I'm sorry but there is sodium in city water. Almost all water. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. But to say here is no salt in municipal water is just not true.

    See link below.

  7. Ditto on the above post.

Well there have been many studies on drinking water. It's kind of like global warming. Some believe it some don't.

I will agree that $84.00 or $69.00 (what I spent) is outrageous. It's a necessity.

It's not like alcohol which one could live without. I could easily drink the ships water, refill my plastic bottles and I am sure would live.

However, compared to what people are spending on alcohol I feel it is a value.

I currently live in Rye but I am from Flint Michigan and still own a hous there.

I no longer trust any public water supply unless I have filtered it. Google stories about water supply and cruise ships.

So yes I'm sure it is fine but when possible I try to protect my health.

I'm buying the spring water and use a filter at home.

Many bottled waters are high in sodium. Go on you tube to see results.

    To each their own.

Shame on you RCCL for taking advantage.

  8. I know I read somewhere the details about getting off ship in a timely fashion in Belize.

    Just wondering how it goes.

We are in a junior suite so I don't think we get and perks.

Do we need to be in line at o'dark hundered? I have planned an excursion to Ambergris Caye through shore excursions and see they will not wait for you.

Thanks. I'm sure this info is here somewhere but I give up looking.

  9. Here is another reference I found to the stair case. It was posted last year 2015

They are referring to cabin8596. Rhapsody RCL

"The only drawback was the long walk to anywhere on the ship. But we absolutely loved the cabins. You will too. Also, if you are on the starboard side, part way up the hall there is a door to a set of stairs that goes up to the spa. It is a great shortcut to the Solarium, the spa, the fitness center, and the Park Cafe when it is open."

I am hoping it is still there lol.

    Thanks for all the help.

  10. As you said, not to split hairs, and just to let you know, there is no aft staircase, so you have to go to the midship stairs to go up there.

I read the below quote form 2005 lol(I'm sure many things have changed). Just trying to confirm it .

"We have 8088 on the Rhapsody this Christmas. Also, first time aft. I have been told there is a stair way that goes from 8th deck up to the spa and it can be used when the spa is open. The person said the door is not marked, but those that know about it use it alot. I'm not sure where it is, but will look for it in December. Excited about trying an aft cabin."

Other posts have said that they used this stairway to go to the spa/gym/workout room.

I understand they are separate areas but it's the locker room that I would use.

    Thanks

  11. After 30 minutes of searching I give up lol.

I thought I read somewhere that you could take showers in the spa.

We are in a Jr aft cabin and to save time before dinner and morning "private" time I thought one of us could just take back stairs to the spa with our shower bag.

Is that possible? We are starboard side aft corner on Rhapsody.

The other question is taking the towels to the beach. Someone said the towels are too thick and short for the beach.

I love a nice big beach towel. Was willing to buy one but does not appear they are for sale on Rhapsody.

I would hate to lug beach towels.

    Any comment on the towels?

  12. Hi. How fun for you. Not sure about the details of what you would spend money on but when I went on a cruise 13 years ago I was frugal but not cheap. I spent $20.00 gambling and we did our own tours by renting a car and splitting the cost 4 ways. I bought a sofa package and one bottle of wine.

The cruise was $800.00 and I spent $400.00 being frugal.

    However, it is all relative.

For my cruise in January I am bringing $1000.00 and if I don't spend it all it is light to carry home and takes up little room!

Again I am putting together my own trips when possible so I will need cash to pay those folks.

  13. Thank you so much for the information. Yes the trip for the bag would be Rye NH to Tampa RCCI Rhapsody.

They guarantee if luggage does not arrive then they refund your money. The company I would use would be luggage forward.

Of course I would not put anything of value i.e. Medications, IPad etc...

I would like to be able to put my two allotted bottles of wine so I will need to read the fine print to see if that is allowed.

I also would not send my good luggage. I stopped by Salvation Army and picked up the best piece of luggage for $5.00.

The only other item of value would be my snorkel equipment. But this way I could bring some beach towels, some worn out tennis shoes, things I could leave behind.

To start my vacation I need to drivie to bus station in Portsmouth, hiking with luggage 1/4 mile through whatever weather there is to,the bus.

Tipping bus driver. Waiting at airport for luggage to be unloaded. Waiting to check in luggage.

Waiting for luggage in Tampa. Lugging it to the hotel. Lugging it to the cruise ship. Going through the inspection line.

For $125 it is well worth it to me. I couldn't afford to do this each time I took a trip but this is my second cruise in 13 years. It's my splurge.

I am not spending a nickel on drink packages.

A 50 pound bag is $124.00 and they pick up about a week and half before travel.

I will report my experience with the company but I feel they would be more vested in my luggage than the airlines as this IS their business.

  14. Hi.

I have found a few threads on this subject but all appear outdated.

I am wondering if anyone has used the service of door to door luggage delivery of late. It seems like such a wonderful idea. A splurge of sorts. The company (I think there are just three) comes to your door and picks up your luggage and the next time you see it is in your cabin!

I figured if I set aside a dollar a day between now and my January cruise I will have it covered!

    Any experiences?

  15. Oh......oh......may I have a turn in kicking the dog?

Anyway, if it were me I would also just say no but add a thank you.

In addition, I would continue to my treat myself.

I would first approach the desk with a $5.00 bill on the counter and ask the person behind the desk if I may ask a big favor as I slide the $5.00 bill their way.

Then asked to not be bothered about products as your budget allows only for the treatment.

I would thank them and hope for the best.

  16. These are one of those things that look good on paper.

    Weirder thing have happened.

I will be the odd one out but I would try it if I had to be to work that day.

Worst case she pays the $100.00 or whatever to change flights.

Depends on where she is flying home to as to the number of flight on that day.

But she definitely will not make it if she doesn't try.

What's the harm in trying as long as she can afford to pay when she doesn't make the flight.

I'd say she has a 20% chance of making it. And if I was 20 and wasn't worried about having a heart attack over the stress of it all I would go for it!
