  1. I pre-booked 6 dinners in the Specialty Restaurants and had 4 dinners in the Main Dining Room including the two "CHIC " nights.

First , I want to say on the Chic Nights people were dressed ! Tuxedos , suits , sport jackets and me with just a long sleeve shirt and dress pants . I would guess 85% of the men wore sport jackets or nicer !

The women ..... forgetaboutit.... gorgeous.... dressed to the nines ! I'm not kidding . It reminded me of the old days on the cruise ships. I was impressed.

Comparing the specialty restaurants to the main dining room ( remember , I ate in both ) , THERE WAS NO COMPARISON ! In the specialty restaurants , there were more choices , the quality of the food was much better , the service was unsurpassed EXCEPT in the Tuscan Grille where we were disappointed.

Specialty Restaurants order of choice for us : Murano then Q - Sine ( La Petite Chef - a lot of fun and cute as hell ) , then Lawn Club Grill ( also a lot of fun ) then The Porch ( for lunch - the seafood tower ) then last was the Tuscan Grille ( meat was tough and service was poor ).

Now don't get me wrong , the Main Dining Room is pretty , food good and service ok but no comparison to the specialty restaurants !

Also FYI , show times are 7:30 and 9:30 pm !

  2. That stateroom is just aft of the hump and has the bed by the balcony. Be aware that the smoking section is on the hump area below you on Deck 5, so if you are concerned with smoke drafting up to your deck, you might want to consider a stateroom on the starboard side -- even numbered staterooms.

With regard to sea sickness, I would think a stateroom just a little forward of the hump, looking forward, would be a more desirable location on the starboard side.

Wow ! Really appreciate all this information . Thanks for taking the time to respond !

  3. I’ve not stayed in that cabin but from the deck plan it’s fairly low and almost at mid-ship which is a good location to avoid ship movement. Being on deck 7 you’ll also be above the lifeboats meaning they won’t obstruct your view outward. Your view down to the water will however be partially obstructed as you’ll be looking down at the top of the lifeboats. All in all a decent location IMHO.

    Thank you for your response.:)

  4. As others have said, you are cutting it way too close for any comfort. If the ship gets in on time you can expect to start walking off with your luggage about 7am. So make it 7:15am to meet your driver and get moving, that gets you to the airport about 8:15am assuming there is no traffic. That gives you 90 minutes to check in, clear security, clear passport control and make it to your gate. Not an easy task in an airport that they tell us to allow 3 hours just in case. If you have priority check in--biz class or Elite status that will help your chances at check in but not at security etc. If you are going to try it, make sure you have a private transfer arranged so you an walk off and just go. Romecabs.com is a great company for reliable transfers. One last thing you need to be aware of, if you run into bad weather or other delays the ship could come in later....

We are doing a Rome to Rome cruise in October and I was considering trying to make the then 10:10 United flight. Before I booked they changed it to 9:50am and I opted to stay over near the airport and just enjoy the day and not be rushed and worried for the last three days of my cruise...

Where near FCO would you suggest staying over night ?

  5. Hi fellow cruisers ,

I need some experienced Celebrity REFLECTION help !

My wife and I will be on the Reflection and disembarking in Rome on July 30 , 2018 to fly home.

Our United Air Flight departs 9:45 am from FCO .

The ship docks at 5:00 am and then , I understand , has to go through customs !

Please advise if you have been in a similiar situation and how did you manage to get off the ship as close to 5:00 am as possible ?

    PLEASE HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS.

    Aron ( the worrier ):D:D

  6. Can't say for sure, but I think that Avalon may be a little more serious than Viking about the no shorts at dinner policy. Let us know after your trip.

    Hi Fuel ,

I note from your comment that you have travelled on Avalon a few times. Have any of trips been in July or August ? Does Avalon have a written no shorts policy ? We have not gotten out travel documents so I am unaware of their written dining room policy. THANKING YOU in advance.

  7. Hi Rachel,

By this time have you not received a list / description of OPTIONAL TOURS for your trip ? If so could you please advise me with a copy of that list ? Ours hasn't come out yet and we are way excited to learn what they are .

Last year we went on a Viking River Cruise from Paris to Prague with a few extra days in Prague....LOVED IT !

    Waiting to hear from you.

    THANK YOU ,

    Aron
