I personally like staying at the round Holiday Inn on Highway 17S. It has a huge parking lot and the view is unbelievable. It is a little dated, but the price is reasonable.

When you are at the Yorktown, make sure you do the flight simulator. It was the highlight for my 6 year old boy.
My favorite restaurant in Charleston is Cru Cafe. It is an old Charleston home near the market that has been converted into a restaurant. The food is unbelievable, and the price is very reasonable. My wife prefers Poogan's Porch on Queen Street. It is also fantastic and reasonably priced.
If you have time, I would recommend doing a sunset cruise sailing charter.

It is a better value for your money to stay in West Ashley rather than Mt Pleasant or Downtown. The round Holiday Inn is old but very affordable and it has the absolute best view in town.
