  1. I was able to upgrade only 1/2 to premium a few days ago for my July Summit cruise where we both had Classic package as part of the cruise fare.

The rep on the phone just asked if she should upgrade only me, or my wife as well.

    I paid $20+20% though.

    Hi!

We're sailing next Sunday (in 5 days) and today, the upgrade banner and the upgrade e-mail disappeared from our NCL account page.

When I try to access the link directly,  I get a "Not eligible for upgrade" message.

Does this means they are processing the upgrades and we still have a chance? We bid $30 p.p. over the minimum bid for a balcony upgrade from an inside cabin. Crossing fingers!

Yes it is possible.  Two ways that I know.

First, the way I just did it for my Joy cruise end of the month.  I used FCC in my account.  I had to get my travel agent to do it.  We have four folks in my suite.  Two of the four were upgraded. My wife and I.  The other two are the Perk Premium Drink Program

Second, to do it when you get onboard.  I know this because months ago, I reached a assistant to a vice president.  He told me simply to asks as I checked in onboard.

The issue I thought was that folks in you suite could then take advantage of the two folks that upgraded.  Where this is true, the advantage is minimal.  The real issue as I was told is the NCL internal program makes the change a real hassle for them until you are onboard.

I hope this answers your question.

Good to know. Someone else was able to do it once on board?

My wife doesn’t drink anything fancy so the regular package is perfect for her.

  5. Hi!

We just returned from the Joy (Dec 15-22) and had a great time with the kids!

I noticed on my statement that there is a $15 refundable on-board credit (4 times, probably 1 for each pax in our cabin) that was added for day 2 or 3. I don't know where this credit comes from...

I did receive the $100 latitude obc on day 1 which was known and indicated when booking, but this $60 appeared out of nowhere. I didn't risk on asking on board as I didn't want to lose it, but still would like to know if anyone ever had this kind of credit?

Yes good catch. I have chastised my wife for this mistake.

With the exception of countries that ban alcohol entirely, the USA and Japan which are 21 and Canada which I believe is 19 (or was) the drinking age is 18 or less.

The USA territories of Guam, USVI and Puerto Rico are 18 also.

Varies by province in Canada. It’s 18 in Quebec.

I've found that Royal Caribbean's specialty dining provides a significantly upgraded experience from their standard dining.  On Norwegian, the food and service quality is about the same in all venues, but in general is better than the free dining experience on Royal Caribbean.

    This is my experience.

We loooved food on our May 2016 Gem cruise, but we found our La Cucina dinner almost on par with the MDR food.

On the other hand, we found Royal’s MDR food, on our May 2018 Adventure OTS cruise, really below NCL quality. We had two dinners at Giovanni’s and we loved it.

The worst, according to our experience with RCCL, is the service in the MDR. It’s so rushed! We like to have a relaxing dinner, with great service, and only found that at Giovanni’s, while we had this level of service everywhere with NCL.

We are booked in the Joy in December. Can’t wait!

  8. I only did NCL one time (Gem, 2016) and RCCL one time (Adventure OTS, 2018). We're doing the Joy in December.

For us, the food and the service in the MDR was wayyy above what we had on RCCL. We like to take our time for dinner, and not get rushed.

We also liked the fact we could just go for dinner at the time we'd like and always got a table without any wait. On RCCL, even though we had My time dining, we had to wait 10-30 minutes most of the times.

Can't wait to sail NCL again!

  9. Hi!

I’m boarding the Adventure OTS Friday and i’d like to know if we do not purchase Voom package, will we receive iMessage notifications or can we access Google for free? Anything is unlocked for everyone?

I’m asking because it did work like this on Norwegian (Gem, May 2016), our last cruise.

I couldn’t go further than Google search results, but it was pretty handy to get the weather forecast, for example.

    Thanks!

  10. There won't be any shortage of those.

I can't wait to discover what's available beyond the bar menus. I'm a big fan of Scotch and IPA beer; and there are a couple of threads talking about craft beers or good Scotch bottles (Macallan, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, etc.) but it seems that this info came from bigger ships than AOS.

I'll report after our cruise (May 18th)!
