For flights before 11.30am there is a direct transfer from Fusina to the airport. The transfer leaves the ship at 6.45am. Your flight details will be checked by Italian customs before you are allowed on the transfer. Apparently some guests on our cruise who had flights slightly later than 11.30am tried to get the early transfer but were prevented.

Thanks so much for the clarification. We have an 11:00 flight so I guess we won’t be booted off the early transfer!

We disembarked in Fusina a few days ago and had booked an Azamara transfer to Venice airport. I'll describe how this works. After leaving the ship guests are directed to coaches by Azamara staff depending on their flight times (your luggage has already gone ahead to Maritima). The coach then takes you to Maritima where you leave the coach and enter a warehouse type building to reclaim your luggage. You then exit the building to board a different coach for your journey to the airport - there are no passport or any other checks at Fusina or Maritima. The coach journey to the airport takes about 20 minutes and you leave the coach with your luggage in a car park about 15 minute walk from the terminal. We had to stand in the car park in 35 C bright sunshine for several minutes while everyone got their luggage and then were guided to the terminal.

I'm not sure why you cannot be taken directly from Fusina to the airport as there were no checks of any kind at Maritima.

Thanks for this info but is this the process for all flight departures? When you book the airport transfer on the website, it says that for flights leaving before 11:30 AM, guests will be taken from Fusina directly to the airport. We had to provide a departure time when we requested the transfer, but they gave no guidelines as to how early we should leave the ship before flight departure time.

  3. Based on info on this site, I cancelled all our excursions on Wednesday of this week. On Friday, the credits showed up on my VISA credit card as PENDING.  They should be finalized today, and then I will cancel our Iceland cruise.  Honestly, the credit came through much quicker than I expected.  Not sure what recourse there is for those who didn't get excursions credited before your cruise cancellation was effective.

On Viking sky. They just announced we have a positive asymptomatic case. That person is in quarantine and all close contacts have been retested and are negative

Sorry to hear you have a positive (albeit asymptomatic) case.  Based on the quarantines of "close contacts" we've heard about on other sailings, I would love to know if the close contacts on your ship are quarantined, even though they have tested negative.

  5. Help! My husband has 2 CDC cards -- one for each of his vaccinations.  We are not sure if the state health department will/can merge them onto one card.  Will Iceland registration and Viking allow a scan of two cards?  I've heard of others who have their vaccines split between the front and back of the CDC card, so guessing their situation is similar.  Can anyone help or know where I can get info?

An aside from the test results today.  We went to golden circle from Jupiter.  It was pretty cold in the highlands. Bring your rain suits and warmer layers

Appreciate your shopping tips/links! Does anyone have recommendations for warm pants for the guys? Hubbie thinks what he has is fine!

Someone asked about the sky lagoon.  We went today!  Incredible views of the North Atlantic. Clean and purified water with the signature 7 step ritual.  It is definitely worth your time and money! 6 miles from central Reykjavik.  Any questions about specifics email us luxurytraveldocs@gmail.com.

Sound fabulous!  Did you drive or book a transport/tour to Sky Lagoon?

Thanks!  Booked it both ways with them and think it was a good price. The Reykjavik-BL-KEF transfer on 8/17 worked out to 25,650 ISK. They seem somewhat flexible regarding how long you want to stay at BL. I chose 3 hours since return flight isn't until 17:00. And they will pick up at Skarfabakki port, it appears.

Is that a per person rate?

  9. Viking does not "buy" your airline tickets until a couple of months before departure. For our July 3, 2016 cruise, Viking booked my husband and I on Iceland Air (out of Washington, DC), with layover in Iceland and connecting flight to Bergen. But, because they lock in so late, our seats were in the LAST ROW (non-reclining) right in front of the restrooms. I called Viking Air and said they were unacceptable, but their response was that they were the only seats available unless we split up. I asked about another airline (SAS flies via Copenhagen) and was told their fare exceeded the contract rate, but they would change my flight if I was willing to pay the $250/per seat difference. We paid the difference. Upon further checking I could have booked SAS cheaper than Viking Air quoted, but wouldn't have the transfer to/from ship. Lesson learned.
