  1. I have used a rollator in the past. I now have a TravelScoot and for the first time on my last trip I checked it with luggage. I was very worried about the brake wires getting broken. I got, from the hardware store the long gray tube foam used to cover pipes from freezing. It is split already down the middle $1.00 each. I then cut to length and zip tied them on. Zip tied it to hold together. It traveled just fine. Not only on the plane but also on the ship before it was delivered. I will be doing it again in the future.

You only have the rollator and you will need it while you are waiting for the plane to go buy something or the restroom. The attendant will be off taking care of others and will return to take you to the entrance. From baggage check in I have had wheelchair assistance many times and I just sit in the wheelchair and hold it upright folded in front of me. Your small bag could even go on your lap or the attendant will take care of it. Your seat cane can go with you too.

I'm sure others will have other ideas but this is what works for me. Have fun!

  2. I have had my ICD for 14 months and am looking forward to responses. At first the ICD was all I could think about, the what ifs. Luckily that only lasts a little while. I have done a 11 day Alaska cruise after implant and it was a breeze. You just tell them you have it and around security you go. I can feel the pacemaker when it goes on but I know that is a good thing. I hope we never feel the defibulator!

  3. We had super shuttle reservations LAX to San Pedro. SS said they had a van coming. They strung us along for 1. 1/2 hrs. Finally asked a Prime Time and in 5 min they were there I reported it but never heard except they gave res money back. SUPER SHUTTLE should be out of business. Keep passing the word to not use them.

  4. I have a TravelScoot and I love it! I went on the Carnival Splendor and we did not have a handicap room. From what was said on the web site I was expecting to have to tilt or break down my scooter. We found that getting off and rolling it in front first it touched the side of door jam but made it through. Then to leave the cabin I still needed to go front first. I couldn't understand why but that is how it worked. I park it under the desk removing the chair.

As for a handicap room becoming available it is true it could happen. Don't relay on someone else to find it for you. Check the cruise and the cabins more than once a day. When it comes up don't wait a minute get on the phone. Someone else is trying to get it too. Good luck and happy scooting!

  5. We were on the Star Princess nov 14-24 to Mexico. They had already started installing new carpet and pulling wires in the ceiling down the hall. No red in carpet both sides looked the same.

I wish they would replace the "stone" floor in the bar by International Cafe. It was carpet but now uneven face stone and the chairs won't slide. Very hard on passengers not to mention the chairs!

  6. Just got off the Star Princess with an 11 day Alaska cruise. The floor they put down on the 5th deck is very uneven. It is a stone looking floor. In the International Cafe/Bar area where you can sit a tables it was destroying the legs of the wooden chairs. You can not slide but rather have to pick the chair up to move it. Doing that forwards and backwards when sitting in the chair is not easy. Are we the only ones that have noticed this?

  7. Get a wheelchair not a transport chair. She can move herself in a wheelchair but not a transport. She can carry her walker folded as she sits in the wheelchair or better yet you push the walker. Great for putting carryon bags on!

When you get to the port to check in as soon as they see the wheelchair they will direct you to a special line. If you need help pushing her with all your "stuff" ask for a pusher. Be sure to tip him.

As for the tender they will help her on if she can get on by herself. They will put the walker on for her.

    I wish you well.

  8. 2 of us have Travelscoots. We are going on Princess. Will we have problems using the tender? I have taken my walker in the past but have moved on to getting around so much better on tbe TravelScooter. Any pointers, suggestions etc for me. Thanks

  9. We live north of SF and received it. TA has now booked us for the Jan 16 and Jan 20. She did explain that the port fee is included in the price and that is subtracted so don't forget about that. We are applying ours on our booked Alaska cruise June 3 out of SF. We will drive down to Santa Barbara and stay before and after for a visit with relatives. We will catch the Airbus to the Cruise Terminal so won't have to drive in LA traffic or pay for car parking! Yahoo.

  10. I am going to be gone almost 8 weeks and flying both ways. My cruise, Carnival Splendor, has lots of ports to get off and explore. I plan to ride my TS to the plane and do all the things that have been suggested and again pick it up when I get off the plane and ride it to baggage claim. Because I have mobility issues at times I can walk without aid, or I have to walk with a cane or I need to sit down or I have my TS. I think that probably fits most of us. Also I have a problem getting out of the pools on the ship but I think I have come up with a plan.

I am planning to use the well made big, long TS bag for transporting other devices I would like to take with me to make my trip better for me. I plan to put in the walker, I want to walk as much as I can for exercise, I just got that folds up and will fit in the bag with the bottom of the legs taken off. I plan to put walking polls in that I use when I go to the beach to walk in the sand and take into the water to get in and out. I plan to put in a small step that folds flat that I want to see if I can use it to get out of the big pools on the ship. I plan to take my seat cane that I will take on some tours where the TS will not go. In my mind these are all handicap devices because I am using them for my handicap. I would really like feedback from all of you if you think I will have a problem checking this bag. Yes I know better then to put socks and other things in the bag to pad it or fill it. I am going to get some bubble wrap if I need to for that.

As I have written this I think I will post this on the main page later but right now I would really like your ideas of what I should do or not do.

    Thanks, Marla

  11. I will post my first time experiences with my little scoot when we get back sometime after the 7th of Jan.

Thanks again for all your help on this thread you all are Awesome !

I will be waiting to hear how it goes, just fine I am sure, because my first adventure with my TS will be Feb 3rd. If you can't tell from my penguins, and I haven't mentioned it once or twice, I am going around South America from LA to NY.

Travel safe and return with lots of news.

  12. This is a big fear I have. In the beginning of using my TS I would go around or walk it across something that looked "to me" dangerous. Now I have gotten braver and I lean as far as I can over the handle bar, which may look like I want to be Speed Racer, and give it a try. But I still am praying as I go over that I won't fall off. I know at some point I will probably take a spill but I pray I don't. I am so sorry this happen to anyone. Marla

  13. Hi Marlee...Marly here. Do you still have the card we gave you on the Coral Princess? We bought the scooter and I have a lot of questions for you. Email me please. If you don't have the address, respond here & hopefully I'll get a notification & will reply.

Post your questions here so we can all benefit by the answers. There are many of us that are new to Travelscoot too. I got mine in May and will be taking my first flight in Feb.

  14. I am happy to hear you leave your seat back on! I am taking my first plane ride in Feb with my Travelscoot. I am traveling alone and that has been one of my questions because I really need the seat back. I am planning on driving it down the jetway and taking the battery into the plane. Thank you for the information on putting it under the front seat. I sure would hate to have that fall on someones head. I also am planning on being one of the last ones off the plane so I will have a good running start. Do you call the airline ahead of time to tell them you are traveling with the Travelscoot as suggested? Or have they finally gotten used to all of us?
