  1. I had such high hopes for the Sanctuary because I needed some much needed stress relief.

We recently went on a Alaskan cruise aboard the Crown Ship. Upon boarding the ship I went directly to the Sanctuary to make my long awaited reservations. I was completely disappointed to learn that this area was completely open to the elements. There was no way to close windows so that you could sit there, enjoy the view, and sip on drinks with umbrellas.

I hope Princess thinks this through a little better on new ships.

  2. Just returned last week and highly recommend the Taku Lodge, Sea Plane, Glacier tour. it was amazing and worth every penny. A once in a lifetime experience which included bears coming within twenty feet of us.

We booked through Princess and found that to be helpful as one of our excursions at another port ran late and they held the boat because of us booking directly through the cruise line.
  3. We just returned last week from our Alaskan Cruise aboard The Crown ship.

Although for the most part our Mini-Suite was clean it was also very dated. It's time a major update on this ship. I've posted pictures on a blog entry from today so that you can see what I'm referring too. Here is the link. . .

Next time we are thinking about taking a smaller cruise ship that offers more of an educational experience, which will also be a much more current release. :)

  4. We just returned from our Alaskan Princess Cruise last week. Our favorite excursion was in Juneau when we took the sea plane over to Taku Lodge where we enjoyed a BBQ of very fresh salmon and other homemade goodies. I think there were only about fifteen of us there at one time, and about eight of us flew on each plane.

The most exciting part of this trip was that we were joined by three black bears. Apparently they smell the BBQ of salmon and come out of the heavy bush. The help at the lodge stood around with large sticks so that the bears would keep their distance, but they were as close as twenty feet, and at one point in a tree right above our head as we took a short hike. Even stranger to us was when we went inside to enjoy our meal, the bears came into the BBQ area and sat RIGHT ON the hot grill to lick off the oils and catch and fish dropped into the coals. Highly recommend this excursion.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, avoid the High Tea at The Gatsby House in Victoria.

All of these items are being written about on our blog at http://www.susansutherlindesigns.com. We are featuring different aspects of our trip for the next two weeks.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Best of luck building new travel memories.

  5. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Sorry I wasn't more detailed previously, three years ago I had emergency back surgery after a disc 'exploded' after months of pain.

I've been seeing surgeon, and I have the maximum amount of oral meds I can take, just concerned that if another disc 'explodes' that the ship staff have IV pain medication I can get before getting off at the next available stop.

If this is true, I feel like I can get on the ship and feel assured that my needs can be met in the event of an emergency.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Well I'm in a sticky spot. I've developed pretty severe back pain and we're scheduled to leave on an Alaskan cruise May 28th. We are taking our 82 year old parents for their 63 anniversary and I am brought to tears when I think about canceling my trip, although I would have my husband continue to go. My question to all of you, how is the medical care on Princess, or in the ports if needed? We purchased trip insurance before this all happened so we are protected there. I'm a nervous wreck as I've had back surgery before and I know this could get bad!
