  1. Majesty is a great ship for a quick cruise, I have been on her twice. I wrote a detailed review a while back on it, I am sure you can find. If you are like me an used to Oasis, Freedom, etc class ships, set your expectations accordingly. There is one small pool, only really two good bars to hang out at, and lots of partiers (although since it does Cuba now, maybe not?). It's still a great time, I loved my time on there, especially in the piano bar but just be prepared to set expectations.

  2. We originally booked grand suite but price kept going down so we went with owners suite much larger about 550 sq ft with a 250 sq ft balcony. Only negative is one bathroom.

I wouldn’t even consider that a negative. The only reason I went CLS over owners is because it was only an additional $100. I’ll miss that big owners balcony I think but the CLS seems to have a large balcony as well.

  3. CLS price difference dropped to about $700 so I went for the upgrade as a surprise for my future wife. Not an ocean view but maybe I’ll upgrade again as right now thats $200 more which I need for some other wedding stuff. Honestly, shouldn’t be dropping the $700 but we will most likely never do this again and it’s 3 days at sea (played a big factor).

  4. My fiancé and I were going back and forth on cruise vs all inclusive (Sandals) for our honeymoon and I recently realized we can kind of get the best of both worlds. None of the Falmouth excursions seem all that exciting to me so we are considering doing a day pass to one of the Sandals resorts.

Has anyone done this? It seems great! Any recommendations on which resort? Transport? Maybe thoughts on why not to do this?

    Thanks!!

  5. The survey is incredibly important actually. Coming from a hotel background, I can tell you for certain how important those scores are and the comments are taken very seriously. We do everything we can to ensure people give us good scores. Now granted, I come from a high end background where our owners care about our scores as opposed to other hotels where they are in it for the money and hope the scores are okay. However, a lot of hotels, the surveys, not tripadvisor, drive the direction.

RC uses a company called Medallia, which a lot of hotel companies also use and they ask you for 9's and 10's for a reason. The scoring is broken down like this:

9-10: Promoter, someone who enjoyed your product and will most likely promote your product to others. Effectively scoring them 100%

7-8: Passive, this person somewhat enjoyed your product but you did not make a good enough impression for them to promote it. Effectively scoring them 0%

1-6: Detractor, this person did not enjoy your product at all and may even detract from people booking your product. Effectively -100%.

When you put it all together, you get a Net Promoter Score and this is how the product (hotel, ship, restaurant) is scored. Also known as, Likelihood to Recommend. So when you think an "8" is great, it's actually hurting the net promoter score significantly. The link below will help explain for anyone interested....

  6. So I know final payment for our 10/21 cruise is coming up, I was able to snag about $250 in savings on our Grand Suite today but I still have my hopes up that a CLS will drop below a $1000 difference (currently a $1200 difference). There are only about 7 left on the site, what are the chances it will drop significantly and I can snag? I don't have a lot of experience with this type of move.

    Thanks!!

    Sam

  7. I am pretty loyal to Royal, I've been tempted to try Celebrity and probably will for our next cruise and I have been looking at other options as well. However, the only thing that has made me consider NCL is The Haven. I think the idea of it is exactly what I would look for in a cruise, Luxury experience but with the ability to enjoy the "party" aspect of cruise lifestyle. After reading these comments though, it seems like the implementation does not meet the standard that their market has set.

We are doing a GS for the first time in October and I can't wait to see the difference from standard cruising. I think I would love Yacht Club too but I'm not sure I would love MSC based on the reviews I have read, just not my style.

  8. Hello All - Looking for some advice on excursions for our upcoming cruise. My fiancé (will be wife at setsail) and I generally don’t book excursions as we had one bad experience and frankly we make our own fun most of the time. However, I am looking to book some for our upcoming Oasis Cruise.

We are doing Labadee, Cozumel, and Foulmoth. I was thinking for Labadee we would probably just do a beach day since we are in a suite and will have access to the suite only area which can negate me having to pay to go to one of those all access beaches at one of the other ports.

For the other two I’d love to do something adventurous like swimming with dolphins or zip lines or something along those lines. As well as some type of sand bar/island excursion.

Does anyone have any must do or great reviews? Any suggestions to mix things up from my current plan?

  9. While I only read most of the pages of the thread, I see that there is a lot of "they didn't do their homework before making changes" and what not and you have to remember a few things (coming from a Director at a Luxury Hotel)...

    1) Eventually with major changes, you have to just cut off the benefits. If you keep grandfathering in and making exceptions, it will never stop. People who are cruising star class and haven't in 5 years will ask for the benefit and get it and then 2 years later say "well they made the exception last time, why is it different now?" Eventually you have to just go cold turkey even if it pisses people off. Also, this is a multi-billion dollar company, they've done their research and know what they are doing. There are always going to be leaks and tough ones who don't read their emails; it often takes 6 months to a year to get some minor information consistent throughout all associates.

    2) In hospitality, very few things are black and white. Things like smoking fees, taxes, etc. there isn't much that can be done. But for loyal members or suite level guests, there are definitely exceptions that can and will be made. At the end of the day, we want guests to be happy and if there is a rule that can be bent or an exception that can be made, we will do our best to make it. The important thing is to be kind, calm, and courteous. The second you come storming up and throwing a fit over something that doesn't necessarily require it, you have lost the battle and will get far less good treatment than you want or expect. People come up to the front desk throwing around bad language and screaming and they expect the team to treat them like this is normal behavior. You will get a lot farther with sugar than with salt.

  10. Premium & luxury lines tend to have smaller ships

Oceania has 684 pax or 1250 pax 2 sizes of ship

not noted for their entertainment but you will meet well traveled mature people

    Azamara 684 pax

    Viking have 980 Pax

Crystal is more luxury line but still smaller size ships

Maybe the ship within a ship option would work for you

    it is a tiered system

    NCL =Haven

    MSC= Yacht Club

    Celebrity not sure the name

    Cunard

You have your own dining area/pool etc you do not have to mix with the masses

You may have to compromise to get the premium/luxury you seek

    Enjoy whatever cruise you choose

I agree with this. I think you could get the best of both worlds by booking a premium suite experience.

  11. We booked this on our last cruise and the only deal we "got" was that we paid a $50 deposit and then got a $50 OBC for the cruise we were on, in addition to the OBC we got on our upcoming cruise. Then we just kept moving the booking to whatever cruise we could actually go on if plans changed.

  12. I'm not trying to rain on this thread, and I am all for voicing a complaint (and have on several occasions), but the cruise contract is very clear about their right to change the itinerary.

Good luck, and I hope they help you out in some way.

Just my 2 cents, it may be the contract but it's still not good business. It's like relocations or "walks" in the hotel business, we can certainly do it at anytime but doesn't make it right.

  13. My recommendation would be reaching out to a manager at guest relations, probably not Adam Goldstein or Michael Bayley, because they are going to just send it over to guest relations. Essentially just a middle man, the CEO and President aren't guest relations, it's not their job, there are entire buildings of people dedicated to this and they are going to get it to someone whose job it is to handle this. And while they do respond, it's more delayed because they have consulted guest relations.

Also, there is a chance that you are not receiving any of this information because you booked through a travel agent. We use one as well and I have almost no communication from RC, they email my TA who then provides me with the information. If you were booked direct with RC, most likely you would have received direct communication from them.

Lastly, you have every right to be upset, I would be too, but my recommendation is when you start talking to someone about this, don't go into that conversation with the wrath of 1,000 suns because no matter what you say or do, your complaints will not change something of this magnitude. If you were complaining about a cabin switch or downgrade that's one thing, but you are talking about an entire itinerary. If you are nice and explain your frustration and how this effects you, you are more likely to have a result more in line with your expectations.

Just advice from someone in the hospitality industry...

  14. Keep checking but you made a good choice.

Any cabin on a cruise is better than being at work. Next time you can try the cls! [emoji6]

It will be hard to go back to a non sky class cabin now.

Haha that is something I’m very worried about. However, I’m sure we will somehow survive. I think after this we’ll be making the jump to Celebrity for the next cruise though.
