I have no idea if it's a coincidence or not but the Star has gone to Bar every other week for the past six weeks or so.

I know we all wish NCL would give us more notice but it is entirely possible that this is controlled by the Venice Harbor Master. If they aren't deciding until a few days before what time ships can go out because of these recent issues, then there's nothing NCL can do about it. Just thinking out loud.

Trying to remember... does anyone know if the chicken sausage at Blue Iguana is deep fried?

I know this is an old post, but I can't find anything about this chu chu train tour that you mentioned. Is it still there? Sounds like a fun thing to do to see La Romana. Does anyone have any info on this? Where do you go to find it? Does it still run?
When we did it, there was no info in advance about it. It was just there. No idea if it's still running or not.

Altos de Chavon is the village. There are shops, restaurants, museums, amphitheater, etc. There is no charge to enter. Your friend Mr. Google should be able to tell you more :)

I assume you want to go to Altos de Chavon? We just did this... when you get off the ship, head to the main gates and look for yellow signs that say "shuttle bus" and you can buy a roundtrip ticket for $8 per person to Altos de Chavon. There's not a ton to do there, but interesting enough to kill an hour or two. When we got back to the port, we did the "chu chu train" tour, which was only $16.99 a person and was about a 45-minute ride around La Romana. Combine those two and you've got a nice cheap day at port.

On our last visit we took a taxi on our own to Chankanaab National Beach. We paid for day passes and brought our own snorkel gear with us. There were waiters were on the beach serving us drinks and food. It was fabulous!
I second this. Chankanaab is wonderful. A great, easy way to spend the day and it's not that expensive.

As an alternative to FTTF, I was wondering if anyone has experience with just showing up to the port LATER rather than earlier. For example, arriving at 2:30 p.m. Maybe that's a good way to avoid the crowds if most show up early?

No, the Star has been making a technical stop in Bar, Montenegro when it skips Kotor.
