  1. I would have been disappointed if I had Maya Chan booked, but I understand there's not much that could have been done under the circumstances.

Yeah we did had Maya Chan booked but this has happened to us one time before in Nassau which is not even that great of a port as well and we had a blast with the Nassau nightlife. One of our favorite cruises is the overnight in Bermuda also so Cozumel will be a new experience for us.

  2. Captain announced we are going to be skipping Costa Maya on this trip and arriving at Cozumel tomorrow around 5pm tomorrow for an overnight stay there! Personally this is awesome for me me and the wife because Costa Maya is just an okay port and I’m looking forward to seeing the Cozumel nightlife but we did see some people that were pretty bummed about it.

  3. None of us know for sure what is going on so no need for guessing.

Ill just post all the comments that the original poster has posted from their side of the story to give a little more clarity.

Editing my comment for visibility. Holland America: room number 4103, MS Zuiderdam. I'm waiting. We have talked to the front desk. They can't move us and they didn't seem very interested in reimbursing us but said they will "see what they can do." I'm sorry guys but I don't want weird dudes staring at us during our honeymoon. So I figure maybe someone on Reddit knows what to do. Basically, staff straight up told us to expect them there from 9-5 for the duration of the cruise.

We left port yesterday and they were there. This morning at 9 am they were there. Then about an hour ago, we came back to the room and they were there. Front desk says they will be there for the duration of the cruise from 9 to 5. So you're partially right. Not 24 hours a day. Just during the day. Still, we're jetlagged and we'd like to nap.

Okay OP here. Just went down to the front desk again after dinner. She said my case is still being reviewed. As of 6:15 PM (this is Norwegian time) there were two guys right there painting. Also have video of that. So they were there starting at 8:45 AM or so up until that point at least -- on and off.I'm signing off now that they're gone. We're going to hit the hot tub or something. Maybe get a drink. Didn't think this would get as viral as it did, but hey, I'll be waiting to hear from corporate. Still a very unsatisfied customer. Will update when I hear.

  4. I was upgraded from an inside to an obstructed OV on a Princess 28 day cruise. I was used to my orange lifeboat in short time and grateful for the blue sky that was at least half of the view.

One day I looked outside and the orange was gone! My lifeboat had been lowered and a crew was working on the large supports the raise and lower the lifeboats. Soon my boat was back and a crew was working on the boat and supports. It was very interesting to watch them work and I waved to the crew working and closed the curtains if needed.

I think it was not more that two hours of work time (maybe more) and I am glad the lifeboats are kept in working order. I was not on a honeymoon but work goes on and you can always go find a spot to view the waves.

I am sorry that their cruise was not perfect but we have to make the best of life.

It is not everyday that you can wave to someone on the 8th floor of a cruise ship outside your window while at sea.

You know this is my approach to cruising as well. If this we happening to me I would simply be entertaining myself as long as the work is being done or close the blinds. In my experience these repairs are always done in port days anyway I think the people that posted this may be exaggerating a bit.

  5. Absolutely it is. Completely different crowd than the original source (reddit). While I've known that for a LONG time, it has been amazing to originally see this blow up on reddit and twitter, (and having actually seen the video, and read the comments from the person themselves). Then I come here, and read the dismissive posts from people having absolutely no details, haven't watched the video, etc. For those not wishing to comb through it, they've been told from the front desk this will be occurring all cruise long. And for today, the first day of the cruise, it started at 8:45am and went through 6pm. It is LOUD if you watch the video (again, most comments here thus far it's obvious many haven't)

Sorry I thought I posted pretty specific details and linked the video on the original post. I just really didn't know if I was able to post a link to another website since Cruise Critic has so many rules such as no private messages and TA's can't say location (completely understandable) I just didn't want to break any rules.

  6. Sorry Folks, but this is not worthy of a lot of attention. We have not heard from the actual party affected. It looks like one of those "My friend's second cousin's roommate said...." thing.

Perhaps the TA had some unsatisified, and not professionally informed clients, and is using this forum to placate. There are better ways to handle this "nightmare".

Yeah I have no idea who these people are if you read anything at all you will see that I said I was skeptical and didn't know if I could post the website because of the cruise critic polices. In fact now that I have clarification on it here https://m.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/4t9b75/heres_what_you_get_when_you_pay_600_to_upgrade/?utm_source=mweb_redirect&compact=true)isthe original source. Kindly don't pay "worthy attention" from now on. Is this seriously how cruise critic is, full of rude skeptical people when someone asks a simple question?

  7. OK, we aren't honeymooners any more, but even on sea days we spend almost no time in our cabin. I'd be very surprised if the grinding goes on more than a few hours a day, and the couple could use that time to explore other parts of the ship. Annoying, but just a minor hiccup in the greater scheme of things.

I completely agree. BTW I see that you have been here quite a while. What is the Cruise critic policy on linking other websites so everyone here can actually see what I'm talking about? I don't want to break any rules.

  8. I expect they may have booked an inside cabin, and been offered an upgrade to restricted view, and they decided to go with it. I agree, disappointing about the ongoing repairs, but they are necessary, but if they were told about this at the time they chose to pay for the upgrade, it's unfortunate, but nothing any compensation would be due for, IMHO.

OTOH, if they were offered the upgrade, paid up and THEN were told about the maintenance, I would hope that some form of OBC or something would be offered to make up for the inconvenience and disappointment of not having a peaceful view.

I'm completely on the skeptical side of the story they are giving (one of the only few on the "other" site) but the main problem other than the view is all of the noise in the video (if I can get it working) from the workers using a grinder and them stating they were told it would be from 9-5 for the next 11 days. I have never seen repairs last that long for routine maintenance and they are stating it is to remove rust which makes me very skeptical of there story.

  9. There is a post on another website that is making waves right now about a couple claiming they paid $600 for an upgrade to a room on their honeymoon but the lifeboat outside the room is was scheduled for repairs. They are claiming guest services told them that it's that lifeboats turn in the rotation to be repaired and that they would be working on it from 9-5 for the duration of the cruise and they are on their first day. My question is, aren't most of these repairs done on days when the ship is in port and done fairly quickly? Is it going to take the remaining 11 days for them to get done? The type of repair seems to be rust removal only unless there is more to the story. Here is a link to the video posted.

  10. As long as a child is out of diapers (I know this isn't an issue for you but am including it for others), NCL will allow you to leave a child in the kids club while you are ashore.

Just wanted to add on to this since we just got off the jade and ran into a little problem. Here is the guidelines via NCL's website.

Can I leave the ship on a port day while my child is in Splash Academy?

Yes, unless you are given a handy phone or pager for the following reasons*:

    • Your child is in diapers
    • Your child requires 1 on 1 care
    • Your child has a sever special need and /or medical condition

For the safety of your child and to not cause any inconvenience, please reach out to the access desk prior to sailing at accessdesk@ncl.com for any inquiries. If you are not reachable within 15 minutes of the page, a $75.00 USD fee will be applied to your account and your child will be dismissed from program. Handy phone and pagers do not work ashore.

*You or one of the authorized pick-up-people must remain onboard.

No diapers/special needs but she was considered as needing one on one care due to them having to page us multiple times on the sea day on the way to the ports. Our Daughter was three when we took her and was just not feeling the splash academy from day 1. Its not that she is some wild child, I think it was just way to much to take in for her on the first day. By day 4 she was fine and actually asked to go back a couple of times but the damage had been done and she was not allowed to stay while we got off (completely understandable I don't think the wife would have left her anyway). I feel NCL really does have a great kids program but I wanted to post this because it was a little strain on our vacation not being able to do certain things with our kiddo. Still a great trip though!
