  1. Multiple liquor stores a far walk from the main group of hotels on 1&9 cross from the Airport.

The following two are on North Ave that I drive by on a weekly basis - Cantinho Liqours and Wine Cellars.

More options a bit further out but if your going to try a local spot for lunch/dinner you will be fine.

Again like I said in my early post I live a town away.

  2. Depending on where specifically you are in Elizabeth, you should be fairly close to a liquor store. Unless you are looking for something high end or hard to find I'm sure you'll find it in any mom and pop liquor every store.

Downtown JC has expanded a lot over the past few years and the views are great. The coffee shops and eateries aren't there yet. Maybe look into Hoboken as well? The W Hotel is what comes to mind, but in sure there are others too.

  3. Hi! I'll start off my saying I live a town over from Elizabeth. If shopping at Jersey Gardens is high on your list I say find something in Elizabeth, you also will find many great Spanish restaurants as well. I don't think you'd have a problem finding a store to buy your two bottles. Aside from the Mall there isn't really much I would recommend to do, they recently started a video 'Vacation in Elizabeth' horrible!

With Jersey city you do get the view of Manhattan and potentially some nightlife action. For shopping you would have Newport Mall. You could also take a taxi to either liberty state park or the liberty science center. I would highly recommend if you are in JC to take the Path to World Trade Center, super quick ride and the 'Westfield' is open inside the Oculus. The path is $2.75 each way, so going into Manhattan would be cheaper than a uber/taxi ride.

  4. Thanks for the feedback so far! We are actually all civil engineers, so it would be an educational vacation! We definitely want to do the old locks over the new ones.

We are leaning towards a full transit, seems like all the partials are 10 days long while full are 14 days, might as well do the full length of the canal if it's just a 4 day difference.

I haven't seen any 7 day PT, any idea if they are even offered?

  5. Hey Everyone!

I am planning on a full transit PC cruise with my college buddies in late 2017 or 2018. We are all in our late 20's, and know we will be cruising with mostly older folks. Any recommendations on a cruise line which maybe more oriented towards a younger crowd? I was thinking either Carnaval or Norwegian, would appreciate any input you may have.

    Thanks!!

  6. RCL had lobster tails on one formal night during my August 13th sailing. I asked the waiter for a double order of the just the lobster (not the entire plate) and he didn't have an objection. I asked if he could save a tail for me for the following night and he laughed and said that he couldn't do. Overall the lobster was cooked very well, a bit light on the seasoning but a little salt/pepper fixed that. No complaints from my end and I love seafood.

  7. For formal nights (2/7 nights) I wore a full suit including a tie! On two of the nights I walked right into the MDR with board shorts (dry) and a tshirt - the main hostess laughed and said she liked me better in the suit (the Matrix Lady if you've been on my time dining the Oasis of the Seas this summer) . At the end of the day I am on vacation, I have no problem dressing up for formal nights but the rest of the nights I'm going to wear whatever I want... Seemed like the staff of the Oasis totally understood this and had no issues. I might have seen a single digit amount of other guys walk in with shorts, at a minimum it was jeans or slacks per the website.

Assuming if you are nice they don't really care...

  8. First of all I will start off by saying I worked on tips for roughly 6.5 years (from senior year in HS though my Masters degree).

Two of us went on the cruise and on top of the standard daily tip, we left:

$100 for our stateroom attendant - this guy was on top of his game! This was our first cruise and he recommend which activities not to miss on the boat as well as advice on shore excursions. He basically helped us plan out each day and even saved us some money in the process (such as what sales the boat would have and when drink specials like the 10 for $79 would appear). The room was always in tip top shape and we never had to ask twice for anything. Hands down one of the hardest working person I've met in my life. I left my business card with him and offered to show him around NYC if he ever is on the Anthem of the Seas.

$20 for the Waiter and $20 for the Asst. Waiter - we had them for 4/7 nights and they did an amazing job. The first night we had a really creepy guy, the other two nights it was standard service. They got the tip because we never had to ask twice for our drinks to be refilled (or new ones brought out), remembered our food preferences (I don't eat pork), great recommendations on food with some annoying requests (mostly for desserts). Additionally, we left half a bottle of wine ($50) for them to enjoy.

We ordered room service for breakfast two mornings and the first morning the order was kinda screwed up. The second morning they arrived, well I don't know because we waited for an hour and than had to leave for an excursion. No additional tip left.

Bar service, usually no additional tip outside of the auto 18%, just didn't see anything above and beyond. If I could I would've reduced the 18% to 10%. Rarely got a smile, must of always went after someone rude?

We only had carry on luggage and did not use the bell hops.

I would say tip what you think is fair and if someone made your vacation extra enjoyable/special.
