  1. Thank you, so much, for asking this question. I called HAL, because you cannot find the info anywhere (easily, at least) on the website. I was emailed the Meal Plan flyer. As others have said, it was very expensive, and I'm so happy that my instinct was to skip it and find local restaurants. I don't know if I can do this correctly, but I'll try to attach the flyer to this. Fingers crossed.

  2. Thanks for the "tour" Carol!

BTW, did you get a chance to remind the lovely older couple, who were so dressed up, that the ship wasn't returning to Bayonne?

Also, in the photos of Lifeboat 20, I swear it looked like it was going straight into a dumpster. :D

Lastly, the 24-hour rule on the free internet: Seriously? How long has that been going on?

See you in less than a month!!!

  3. I checked to see what other rooms are available in my category on that side of the ship and the following are: 7530 and 7524 both seen to have larger balcony's but more forward and 7630 and 7622 but not sure about the balcony's. Should I change to one of these?

Everything is based on preference, of course. If you are planning on spending a LOT of time on your balcony, either of these cabins actually have larger balconies ... although part of them are completely open to the upper decks. However, if your concern is ship movement, keep in mind that the more forward cabins will feel the most "bumps."

You have some time before your cruise ... if I were you (and I've done Alaska on the Jewel's sister-ship, Radiance of the Seas, twice), I'd keep monitoring for a better cabin location (even one of the more center hump cabins - which are E1s, but sometimes are priced lower than E3s - so keep an eye on all the E cabins). As you get closer to final payment, you'll find that more cabins will open up.

Either way ... even if you end up in 7606, you will have a fabulous cruise on a beautiful ship. Bon Voyage!

  4. So?

I'm not promoting Carnival, I'm saying take a program like Carnival has, 'make it better', and offer it to loyal RCL cruisers!:)

RCL is trying out a new dining program that is similar, but different, and hopefully better then NCL's!

Change can be good, and taking from others, and making it better sounds like a winner for RCL, and their customers!

    I was not criticizing you ... :)

I just was trying to inform (which is what Cruise Critic is, or at least should be, all about, right?).

If you don't care where your cabin is - so long as it's on a cruise ship - the Early Saver is a great way to make you feel satisfied that you will get the lowest price Carnival offers (keeping in mind that you have to find the price drop ... Carnival isn't going to email you about price changes ;) ).

But, as in my case, I made an assumption that Carnival would allow adjustments after the GTY was assigned, and my assumption was incorrect. Live and learn ... but I wish I'd known about that restriction before booking the GTY. :)

  5. Is it true that if you take the "Diamond" balcony discount, it will reduce the amount of your senior discount, and thus loss of the full Diamond benefit?

I just booked a cruise, using the senior discount, and still received the full C&A Discount (in my case, Diamond Plus).

I have heard that they will adjust the OBC for the "book on board" future cruise, if you use the 150% solo discount for C&A Members with 350+ points.

  6. Should have worded it differently, this is yes, yes!

    Copied from the Carnival site,,,

Here's how the Early Saver program works:

    1. When you book a 3-5 day cruise three months in advance, or 6 day or longer cruise five months in advance, you are assured the

lowest rate with a cabin assignment.

    2. In the unlikely event that you do find a lower Carnival-advertised rate after booking your cruise, we will honor it and adjust your cruise rate accordingly. Simply fill out the Price Protection Claim form and we'll take care of the rest. If you booked your cruise with a travel agent and need to make a Price Protection Claim, simply contact your travel agent and they will submit it for you.

This is something all cruise lines could adopt and make those who wish to book early, happier customers!:D

However, Carnival is one of the lines that definitely will NOT let you change cabins, on a GTY, once assigned. And, as others have said, there are significant restrictions.

  7. However, Royal usually allows you to move to any open stateroom in the same exact category when you have booked a guarantee. If you see an open GS, I'd call the travel agent again and ask to move.

I learned the hard way that that is NOT the policy for most other cruise lines (booking a guarantee and moving cabins, within the assigned category, once assigned). Other cruise lines take the position that part of the "risk for reward" of booking at the lower GTY price means that you go where they send you.

That's one of the reasons I AM a fan of RCL! :)

  8. AWFUL and HORRENDOUS are very polite terms to describe how absolutely @#$%$#@ he was! Did he use the casting couch to get a show??!!!;)

I thought the word "ventriloquist" was a euphemism for "awful and horrendous."

Of course, now that I'm being so unkind about the juggling comedian and ventriloquist, they are both bound to turn up on our December cruise ... :(

  9. Tonight's performer was Randy Cabral. He is a comedian juggler. My friend will kill me for saying this, but he was very good. EVERYONE was laughing hysterically.

If you have seen him perform, you will recognize him, particularly the shots of him with the paddleballs.

For God's sake ... if ever I've heard an oxymoronic statement, it's "good comedian juggler." Even worse ... "very good comedian juggler."

Next, you'll be talking about the "fantastic magician!" :p

  10. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

I got this today from Royal Caribbean:

    Dear Travel Partners,

Please be advised that the Southern Caribbean sailings falling in between November 15, 2014 and April 29, 2015 on the Legend of the Seas sailings have had a departure time change to their itineraries. The new departure time is now 4:00 PM from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. All passengers need to be checked in by 3:00 PM.

The sailings affected are shown below for all Southern Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries for Legend of the Seas.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your clients, and appreciate you communicating this information to your clients who are booked on this sailing.

    Sincerely,

    Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines

Thanks for posting this, Kim. Odd that I have not received the notice ... (but I'm one of those "get on board as early as possible" people, anyway).

  11. Dear wwinfl91,

We’re very sorry to hear of your disappointment. Although the current river levels are beyond our control, we do apologize for the inconveniences you’ve experienced so far on your trip. Our Customer Relations team would like to discuss your cruise with you over the phone, and we kindly ask that you send an e-mail to TellUs@vikingcruises.com at your earliest convenience. We will ask a member of our team contact you when you return from your trip. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Viking Cruises

Nice of you to respond, here. I can honestly say that I have never seen a cruise line take that effort ... :D

  12. We are leaving for our Viking cruise next week (also Danube), so I will be monitoring this thread very carefully. I hope for the best for the OP ... and for us, next week. :(

I hope the rest of your cruise goes without further incident. It could be worse ... you could be at work. ;)

Thanks for the updates! ~ LL

  13. What would be more irratating is having two 8YOs decide that Humahumanukanukaapuaa (or however you spell it) was the funniest thing they had ever heard so they make up a song to the tune of "wooley booley" (sp again!) and sing it over and over and over again behind you on a six-hour island tour. Ear-worm! THAT is irratating.

Well, THANKS A LOT for that earworm that I will be humming for the next couple of days! ... ;)

  14. now here in the UK the Star of India comes up first as a Sapphire but the next one says its a good Indian restaraunt.

Funny, because when I Googled it, for this discussion, the first listing was an Indian restaurant in Folsom, CA (which is fairly near to me and is NOT the prison). I doubt it was the same restaurant you saw, however!
