  1. Only decent lobster tail we have ever had on a cruise, was on Carnival.  We were surprised at the size of it.  At least 3 to 4 times the size of what you get on Princess.  When a cruise line is cooking for hundreds of people and a delicate piece of food, you're not going to get perfection.

  2. Although things can change, it sounds like you’ll be at Darling Harbour. If you are spending several days pre-cruise, I’d still stay at the Holiday Inn Old Sydney for its excellent location, close to the sites along the waterfront and to ferries, trains and buses.

If you’re just spending a night before the cruise, check Sydney’s Pyrmont neighborhood on a hotel search engine. There are several nice ones there on Darling Harbour and you’d basically have to take a taxi just a short way across the ANZAC bridge to the ship.

I better check this out with Princess tomorrow. I want to book the hotel and get that out of the way. The ports are confusing. Thank you for your help. It's much appreciated.

  3. U are making me smile...I guess I never thought of Australia as foreign.....:D;)

I am on an Oct. sailing on Sea....our cruise terminal did change, so no guarantees on above post.

Oh I hope I didn't offend you, we're next to Mexico and I call that a foreign country too. Even if I've been there before it's still lands unknown to me. I'm looking forward to this trip, trying not to make any mistakes. Our ship leaves on 1/22/2019. According to the link above the Sun leaves out of OTC. We booked EZAir, the price was reasonable. We're flying in on the 18th of Jan.

  4. As implied above' date=' "pneumonia" simply means a lung infection. It is not a full diagnosis. The infection can be from any number of different bacteria or viruses. It can be transmitted thru the air conditioning system, thru an infected individual coughing and others inhaling the agent, etc.

Yes, 11 of 20 is certainly a significant number. However, these people were probably doing many things together during the cruise, and possibly infecting each other. It would certainly be appropriate to more fully characterize the disease (was it bacterial? What bacteria? or was it viral?), and to notify the cruise line of the issue. If it was something in the air conditioning system, it would have been expected to affect many more patients than just this group of 20.

Did this group see the doc on the ship or otherwise alert Princess to the problem. It is hypothetically possible that many people could have been ill but didn't seek medical attention on board. In this case, Princess might not have any idea of the issue and since these people would seek care in many parts of the country, it is unlikely that the situation would have been reported to the USPH authorities![/quote']What ship were they on?

  5. My family gets upset with me when I ask them twice if they have their passports. Beats that alternative!
Princess and our travel agent have sent us 3 times in the past 2 weeks identification/proof of citizenship for boarding. Not only that' date=' it states it right on your boarding docs. Looks like Princess just made a nice profit off of irresponsibility.

  6. Well stay off The Island Princess because you cannot walk all the way around either on that ship. Why not walk the decks inside the Ship? I do that if it's raining out or too hot. Walk the stairs for exercise, better Yet! On the Royal, I walked the Promenade deck and went through the doors at the other end and across. No big deal. Secret is to keep moving.

  7. You would prefer to be in your cabin sewing, while you would be missing the beauty of a cruise? Seems like a waste to take a cruise if you want to spend your time sewing. BTW, I love sewing too, but, long, cold winter days take care of that.

I see people knitting, coloring, reading on their computers, so why not sewing? However the OP chooses to spend her time, why not?

  8. I agree, and while I feel that civil authorities should prompt residents to take all reasonable precautions, I do think that media and social media do a gross disservice fostering panic and over-reaction among the general public beyond those living directly in the path of a destructive storm.

And yet if hurricanes become destructive to the point of thousands of lost lives, who gets the blame Then? I can hear it now how negligent the forecasters were, they intentionally killed people, on and on it goes.

  9. We were on the Crown 2 years ago. We were delayed boarding due to a noro outbreak. It was a nightmare of a cruise because many got I'll on the cruise. We're going to be on the Crown in October, we hope things have mellowed out. Not at all surprised at the Carnival Legend. Our cabin was aft and there was a continuous smell of rotting garbage on our deck near the aft stairs.

  10. Wait till they only give you a 1/2 a piece....

Well the bacon does suck, I'm okay with 1/2 piece. 😆

But she was probably not kidding.

I talked to two different people of late and couldn't believe my ears:

On Princess, a woman told me that did not get a wedge of lemon with her crab cake so she was never going to sail on Princess again. We hadn't even finished the muster drill yet. Yowsa ... I bet that was a long week for her.

On RCCL, while waiting for the buffet to open, this lady complained she did not even get tissues in her room. I told her we hadn't either when we first boarded but I asked for some and our room steward brought us two boxes....so she should just ask. She said it was her first and last cruise on RCCL. Wow...I bet she will run out of cruiselines before she runs out of years of life.

You just cannot make this stuff up!!

Was a complaint I heard last year, I could count about four types within two steps of where she was.

  11. Thanks for your comment. Some thoughts.

We have no idea of the fat content in a burger.

For a soup would think that a cream type soup would be impossible to guesstimate as we dont know the proportion of cream to the base.

These days never finish a dessert unless it is spectacularly good and do my best to limit weight gain to 5# or less for a two week cruise by walking a lot.

That's the secret' date=' walk, walk, and walk some more. Take the stairs, stay off the elevator! First place I head in the buffet is the salad bar. I make a big green salad, no pasta or potato salad, and balsamic vinegar. I get a meat and veggie from the hot plate dishes. I count carbs not calories. I don't gain any weight. I basically stick to the Atkins diet, so far so good.
