  1. We did a sightseeing/history tour in the town of San Juan itself. We didn't want to do the long bus journey to other places.

It was very enjoyable, especially getting to see the howler monkeys in the forest. Some of our group did ziplining but that's a bit too adventurous for us so we just had a drink and enjoyed the view. We found it through TripAdvisor. The company is called Nicaragua Tour Network.

  2. We did the canal in November last year and had a wonderful time. We had a little rain but not enough to ruin the trip or any of the excursions.

It looks like the weather has been bad recently though. We just got an email from the tour company we used in Nicaragua, they are raising money to help rebuild after a recent storm and are looking for donations. The pictures look like it was pretty severe. So much bad weather these days. https://www.nicaraguatournetwork.com/storm-relief

  3. We recently visited San Juan on a trip through the canal and took a wonderful tour with a young man named Nicholas who is from Scotland but has a Nicaraguan wife.

It's only a half-day tour and it stays in town so we didn't go to Granada but we did go up to the statue of Jesus and to an nature reserve where we saw monkeys and sloths. We also learned a lot about the Nicaraguan revolution. I highly recommend it. The name of the company was San Juan del Tour and you can find them on TripAdvisor.
