  1. I’m going on b2b cruises next year from Los Angeles on ruby princess. First one is 4 nights and the second is 10 nights.

Someone posted to our roll call that the 4 night cruise is being sold as a San Francisco 49ers fan cruise. sure enough I visit the link and there it is.

Clearly princess isn’t expecting a whole ship of mad football fans otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to book. Am I mad in still wanting to go given I’ll be traveling so far?

I can amuse myself if they close off a venue for a group event and I will be packing earplugs anyway. [emoji14]

  2. We just returned from a cruise on P&O Explorer and I commented to my husband on how visible security were onboard. I know that particular ship had an incident of it’s own just a few short weeks ago so that may have been a factor.

I did like the idea (and prominence) of Youth Security here. Their obvious yellow shirts may have contributed to the almost total absence of uncontrolled teens and tweens.

They were also good at keeping my young nephews in line as they loved to jump in the pools. Plus one nephew was scratching another kid on the back so she brought him back to his parents with the scratched kid.

My oldest nephew and I had a good laugh because I think that was the Day this random lady accused us of hiding her clothes. [emoji41]

  3. Thanks for great review, but we want to know...any BOGANS on board and how were dress standards in the MDR, in particular on formal nights. I want to take my Tuxedo and wife ye olde ball gown on Pacific Explorer, but don't want to look like a goose, with the bogan dress.:'):o

    I have a confession.

I rarely dressed up for dinner 🤭

I wore shorts and a t shirt and jandals most nights. Some people dressed like me and others dressed up more.

If you wear a tuxedo in there you’ll be the best dressed man on the ship!

I didn’t see too many bogans around the restaurant. But then the company I kept was an embarrassment in its own right.

  4. I agree with your review too. [emoji3]

I was on there on the New Years cruise and didn’t have high expectations. It definitely was better than I’d expected.

The lifts drove us crazy as well with the overload light!

I would sail on p&o again for a family cruise (I went with my sister and her family) but I’d rather go on other lines when traveling solo.

I hope they sorted out that dining chair in the waterfront that my 3 year nephew drew over with a pen 🤭

  5. In glad you had a good time and your photos are great. [emoji3]

It’ll be a little while before I get back to Sydney myself so it’s very enjoyable to see pictures of places that I’ve enjoyed visiting and of course the ferry [emoji925]

  6. I have been to Crown Grill on Ruby, excellent steaks. Enjoy.:halo:

    I will [emoji3]

I looked up the sample menu and the size of some of those steaks!!! [emoji15]

I had better not chicken out and try the New Zealand lamb instead [emoji14].

  7. Mic, Princess guarantees are a bit different to other cruise lines in that people can choose specific cabin categories ie inside midships.

As far as the fare is concerned we've booked under this type of cabin offer before and all it mean is that the fare we paid was that of the cabin category immediately below the cabin category we chose. It won't have anything to do with whether the OP gets an upgrade or not. That is still in the hands of the upgrade fairy. In fact sometimes you don't want an upgrade. We booked an IA (top inside category) and prayed we didn't get an upgrade as that would have given us a oceanview cabin as far forward as you can go. Luckily we got the IA.

I’ve booked an IA too - all the categories were the same price so I just took what they allocated. I’m doing a b2b so paid slightly more on the first cruise to get the same cabin both times.

I’d rather have that over an oceanview too.

  8. I booked under the same promotion as well for my next cruise. I still don’t know how it works.....

But no mention of the wine and specialty dinner part??

    Confused as heck.

If you booked directly with Princess, check the Booking Confirmation email they sent to you. On Page 4 of mine, it states under 'Special Services for this booking' - Promo Gift: 1 Bottle of Wine $43.12 and Specialty Restaurant Charge $62.50

    Thanks for that [emoji3]

I booked via my travel agent but I looked at the travel summary and it was right down the bottom. [emoji106]

  9. I booked under the same promotion as well for my next cruise. I still don’t know how it works.....

This is a solo trip for me.

I booked an inside cabin so I got the upgrade there. I’m sure of that as I paid extra on the first cruise (doing b2b) to get the same category.

I got double the obc (not surprised.... I did pay double after all)

But no mention of the wine and specialty dinner part??

    Confused as heck.

But I promise... I won’t start an onboard fight over it. [emoji14]

  10. Still not sure how rule three would work for a New Zealander [emoji14]

Have sailed from Sydney which is a foreign port for me. The Australians numbered in the hundreds so a high chance of a few bogans on every trip.

PS what’s the Californian equivalent? I had better be prepared....

  11. My next cruises are also booked with princess out of Los Angeles. I’m going outside of school holidays. I’m not expecting too many bogans on that. I’m lucky that I can take leave easily throughout the year.

I prefer laidback and relaxing rather than trying to avoid a fist fight. Especially while traveling alone. But others I know enjoy carnival and p&o. Heck that even includes my relatives.

Ironically I looked into traveling solo on p&o and it’s actually more expensive than other lines I’d rather sail.

  12. I cannot believe that is true, a kiwi would call it a Jandel.:p Unless they are referring to the other type of thong.

The site is Fairfax owned and a lot of stories are posted verbatim from Australian newspapers (they name the originating one at the bottom). This one was written for the age. [emoji1037]

But the other thong.... could be kiwi for budgie smugglers you know [emoji6] maybe one of the 27 felt it was their responsibility to make sure they only had a 50% shot of disembarking on foot.
