  1. Evening to you all, first post for a long while here. We are joining the Dubai-Singapore section of the world cruise which has I believe 5 ports and 4 different currencies. Would you recommend getting currency in the UK before we leave? Any idea of how much might be needed? I know that’s a difficult one as it depends on what you like to buy. We have booked trips for each destination as it’s our first time on such a trip. Any help would be much appreciated.

  2. Hi, just wondering about picking up duty free. Is there anywhere at the port to buy? Or on board? If so is it a reasonable selection? And price? Just wanting some tobacco and vodka as a gift for the cat sitter while we're away. We will be on the TA from New York to London next week.

    Thanks for any help

  3. When I read this thread it got me thinking, my husband and I are doing exactly the same trip starting 3 weeks today! starting in Toronto, then to New York for 4 nights then home on the QM2. I have contacted my travel agent who got this reply from Cunard yesterday.

I think that's quite expensive, but I am today going to work out how ,I have it's going to cost me to have an extra bag on each flight, as there is no way I can do the whole trip with 1 bag per person. Way too much stuf

    Hope this helps

  4. Is there anyone else on here that has sailed on both? I sailed on the QM's last voyage from New York to Southampton when I was just 2 years old and moving from the USA to the UK. Some 50 years later I am getting to sail the same journey just now on the QM2. I am somewhat excited, to say the least. I have visited the QM and stayed in the hotel on Long Beach. Just curious to see if anyone else has done the same

  5. Coffee and tea are free as well. As for the October crossing. I have done that three times and one in November, and it was never a problem on QM2, I also spent Thanksgiving aboard QV and there was no problem with the crossing, though we were further south from Funchal, Madiera to Hamilton, Bermuda on the trans Atlantic portion.

As for dining there are lots of options that are not extra cost. The pub for fish and chips. The kings court for buffet, Sir Samuel's for coffees, pastries and sandwiches, and Room Service. The new Cafe Carinthia new since the June refit, should be tried out as well. There is nothing to beat the dining rooms either. And Afternoon Tea in the Queen's room.

Thank you, weather wise in October , do you think a light jacket and long trousers is enough ? Or will I need thicker warmer clothes for walking round the deck

  6. Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this, I am heading on my first transatlantic voyage on October 11th and I'm excited and nervous all rolled into one.

Questions I have may seem silly to some but they are things going through my mind

    1. I know there is a spa area on board but can't find out how you get to use just the facilities such as the hot tubs etc, can you buy a day /week pass?

    2. Are tips included ?

    3. Do most people stick to the dinner reservations or try out all the different restaurants ?

    4. Drinks on board, I have seen that soft drinks are free somewhere , is this correct ? Also on that note can I bring my own favoured drink on board with me? I have a terrible Diet Coke habit lol

5 and lastly for now, has anyone done the crossing in October !will it be rough? I do realize every year could be different but just an idea would be great.

Thank you for reading and any advice
