  1. I believe I read somewhere that a free bottle of wine was given to those who dined at the Steakhouse on the Carnival Liberty on embarkation night.  Does anyone know if this is still the case?  I made a reservation for March 24, 2019 our sail date, in the hopes this is true.  Thank you for any information or other suggestions you might have.  We actually don't eat red meat, but love lobster.  🙂

  2. I sailed on the Dream 2 years ago just 3 weeks after hip replacement surgery and was very lucky after calling the cruise line to get a HA room that I could roll an ECV into and shower in with grip bars and no steps. The website did not show any available HA room online and I thought I was going to have to cancel, but the DCL agent found me a room in a balcony category ( a category which I had previously booked before realizing my surgery was going to be moved up). I think she said she called people who had booked HA rooms and asked if they really needed a HA room. It was a huge room with the largest balcony I've ever seen at the corner back of the ship. It did not have a tub, but did have a HA shower and bars at the toilet which I appreciated.

  3. I will be traveling for the first (and hopefully only) time with a mobility cart on the Dream. We were fortunate to be able to change to a HA room so I can store the cart in there and shower with less difficulty. I will be able to use crutches for shorter distances and there is a holder where I can carry them on the back of the cart. This will be my 9th Disney cruise and I have always enjoyed lounging on the heated loungers with a spa day pass. My stateroom will be aft and the spa is forward. Is there a place I can park the cart and use crutches the rest of the way? Are there other places around the pool that I could park the cart without getting in other folk's way if I use it to get to the adult pool? (Not sure yet I could get in, but at least I could read there). I'm pretty sure there won't be a problem for dining, but was wondering about other public places. Thanks in advance for any advice.

  4. There was a rumor floating around (see what I did there?) that Palo was holding brunch during the Dream 3-day to Nassau and CC. I got a hold of a few of the latest Navigators and it doesn't say anything about Palo being open for brunch.

Has anyone been on a Nassau/CC 3 day and been able to attend a Palo Brunch?

    TIA!

Our early Dec. 3 day Dream cruise booking window opened a few days ago and we were able to book Palo brunch with no problem and plenty of availability a day after our booking window opened (for gold level). I'd much rather do this than any activities in Nassau...except maybe getting off to check email in a cafe that has internet.

  5. under your reservation in my cruise activities BUT unfortunately the cut off to book activities etc etc for this cruise was yesterday @ midnight..sorry :(

With any cruise once you've made your final payment and you are certain a number days out for the cruise you can pre book spa appts, excursions and activities.

You can also book a day pass for the Rainbow Forest Spa to use their lovely showers, sauna, whirpool tubs (on a covered deck outside), as well as their heated loungers with reading lights. They're under 20 bucks each and well worth it. You can find the day passes under the "gifts and amenities" section at the DCL website that you can purchase pre-cruise.

  6. We missed Castaway Cay once on a 3 night cruise due to high winds in February (even though the sun was out). The Captain was unable to dock although he tried several times. Of course we were disappointed to miss our favorite port, but the ship immediately reprinted and distributed new Navigators with a lot of added activities since we spent the time at sea. I think there were extra things like cooking classes and other classes. We still enjoyed ourselves, but perhaps not as much as we would have if we'd been able to dock at CC. There was no refund or obc given, and we didn't expect any since bad weather and being flexible is just a part of cruising. Good luck to you and I hope you have smooth sailing!

  7. Does anyone know if it is possible to use UBER in Honolulu for a ride from the cruiseport to the Enterprise car rental place near the airport? My online research shows that UBER cannot go directly to the airport, but we will have reserved a car at HNL Enterprise post-cruise anyway which is a little distance from the airport itself. The HNL Enterprise car rental agency shuttle won't pick up at the cruiseport, only the airport. Anyone with Honolulu UBER experience out there car to comment or offer words of wisdom? Thanks in advance.

  8. We are renting a car our second day in Maui. We have booked a (refundable up to 48 hours before the excursion) whale watching excursion in Ma'alaea with the Pacific Whale Foundation that departs at 12:30pm and is scheduled for about 2 hours. We then would have to drive back to the airport and return the rental car (about a 35 minute drive) and then get dropped by the car rental company to the ship. The ship leaves at 6pm. I figure we should get back to the ship by 4pm at the latest. Are we supposed to be back 2 hours before departure? Any opinions as to whether we are allowing enough time for this? Thank you.

  9. Renting from the airports in Kahalui, Hilo and Lihue are fast and easy from the pier on the company shuttle. All three airports are close to the pier. In Honolulu we rented from a downtown location. I walked down and got the car while my wife and a porter ferried our bags through customs. I returned and picked her up and off to our hotel.

We didn't rent in Kona as we decided to make that stop our relaxation day. Some folks we spoke with rented from the hotel near the tender pier. The airport is a bit further as I understand it.

Could you please tell me what company (or companies) has a location close enough to the pier to walk to in Honolulu and how far a walk it is? That sounds like an excellent idea for getting off the ship if I can get a car with a trunk to put our luggage in since our flight isn't until late in the afternoon. Thank you

  10. We do a short cruise every November and always go to the DVC members get together which takes place before sail away. In the past they have always given out free baseball type hats. Can anyone who has attended this recently confirm if they are still doing this? I don't want to pack one if I can get a free one here. We'll be on the Dream this Friday. Thanks.

  11. someone posted somewhere, can't remember where, that they used some OBC to by a Disney gift card on board, that way they took that home with them instead of losing the $.

That was me. I won the obc at a DVC talk in a drawing they had and was able to buy a gift card in one of the big shops on the Dream (don't remember the name of it). Worked out really well as I used it towards my Disney annual pass later!

  12. This from the NCL website today:

Weather Alert for Pride of America Guests

    Updated Thursday, August 7, 2014 @ 12:30 pm ET

At Norwegian Cruise Line, the safety and security of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance. Therefore, the company is closely monitoring the paths of Hurricanes Iselle and Julio in the Pacific.

To avoid the path of the storm, Pride of America will depart Nawiliwili, Kauai on Thursday at 7 pm and spend the day at sea on Friday.

At this time, we anticipate embarkation for Pride of America’s August 9 sailing will take place as scheduled. Should there be any updates, they will be immediately posted here.

  13. On the Dream there is usually a ship's tour that you can attend to help learn your way around the ship.

If you are a current DVC member there is a welcome party/presentation with free drinks, hats, lanyards, and other little gifts before the lifeboat drill. Of course they are trying to sell you more DVC points, so I guess that is why they offer the alcohol. I did win $300. obc at one of these presentations once which I was able to redeem for a nonexpiring Disney gift card at one of the onboard ship's stores. :D

  14. We are prepaying our NCL service charges for our POA Hawaiian cruise we booked for late next year because the travel agency (I found it by calling different ones listed here on the cc boards and seeing who would give us the best amenities offer) offered to give us some obc and also a choice of even more obc or pre-paying the gratuities for both of us. NCL is also giving us a small amount of OBC. I read on the boards that some onboard credit on NCL (such as the credit NCL is giving us) can't be used for pre-paid gratuities (the daily service charge), whereas the obc given by the travel agency can be used for them. So, in order to avoid confusion in applying the obc for pre-paid gratuities, we are having the travel agency apply what they are giving us towards pre-paid gratuities before we cruise.

  15. Just went online at midnight when my booking window opened for gold status Castaway members and was able to book Palo brunch with no problem for the 3 of us in our stateroom. Availability was there for every hour. Remy brunch was available, too, and would be nice, but I think the cost of Palo will be enough at $25 per person. Very happy with this sea day option! Now I hope that our friends who are in a different stateroom, but who don't get their booking window open for another 15 days can book with us, too.

  16. Thank you so much for the update....very great news indeed!

lawgator - They're doing both the Palo brunch ($25) and Remy champagne brunch ($50) on Saturday 11/8/14.

I booked dinner at Palo for that night....brunch is great but I'd rather not take time out of the day for all that food! Hopefully you'll have your choice of times still when your booking window opens.

  17. I'm platinum, so my window opens July 10th. The Palo brunch is excellent, but I don't think I'll take time out for it on this cruise, since I'd never be able to eat dinner. I'm cruising with a friend who's never cruised before - should be fun to see it through virgin eyes, lol! As platinum, I get a meal at Palo for free, but I'll be booking a dinner. WishI could learn my dining rotation in advance, but they never give out that info.

It's always fun to do Disney with first timers! If you don't mind when your booking window opens can you let us know if there is a Palo brunch available even if you're not booking it? I know in the past a couple of times I have put in a request on my reservation by calling in for a certain dining rotation and they did honor it. Maybe you could give that a try. We're taking my 85 year old Mom with us and even though she's cruised Disney 4 other times, she never did Palo and has never been on the Dream. I thought a brunch would be a good option for us all to try together so she could also see all the dining rooms at night.

  18. Lawgator - we'll be on the same cruise, and while I booked it strictly for the dates I was pleased to see there was no stop in Nassau. Although, Nassau is good for getting some of the other passengers off the ship ;-) Are you from Gainesville by any chance - that's where we are.

    Sue/WDW1972

Yes, we are from Gainesville, too! Going to keep my fingers crossed for the Palo Brunch and check on it as soon as the booking window opens. We are gold status, so will have a wee jump on the booking window. We only usually got off in Nassau to find a cafe and a Kalik beer and check our internet because it is cheaper there. :-) I'll let you all know on the board here if there is a Palo brunch when I find out...unless someone else here is on the cruise and a higher Castaway Cay status and can tell us when their booking window opens.
