  1. Thank you. As a new cruiser I had almost resigned myself to having to buy a tux after reading comments on here, but I am now planning to wear my suit which is usually only rolled out for weddings and funerals. That's a couple of hundred pounds that I can now spend enjoying my holiday, thanks again.

You are very welcome! And I hope I can help others! Have a fabulous time, you will love it:)

  2. Yes there are much more important rules, but are you suggesting we should only follow the most important rule? If we follow that logic then we should let of a mugger because it is not as bad as murder - extreme analogy!

To answer your question, I, and I suspect others, do care.

...seriously... You're comparing murder to wearing a normal suit...get a grip of yourself. Some of the comments on here I've seen are outlandish but this has to be the worst! No one cares other than this extreme person. Trying to keep cruising fashion in the days of the 1900s is unhelpful. Money is tight in these days of austerity. Making people feel so uncomfortable on social media in order to keep unrealistic and outdated "fashion" pretense, and to try to keep the ideals of yesteryear is outrageous. Stop trying to scare people into spending unnecessarily, it's nothing short of bullying! I'm outraged!

  3. Take no notice...wear whatever you're comfortable in. Yes there were men in tux and yes there were men in normal suits...both dark and light. And all looked smart! If your have a suit wear it, don't go to the extra expense, it's unnecessary. Many on here seem to be trying to keep the old fashioned trendy. It's not. The cruise is costing you enough. Don't waste money, go, be comfortable, enjoy, and don't be as daft as I was reading too many outdated comments on here!

  4. We crossed the bay of Biscay on britannia in June and we felt nothing. Crossing was perfect as was the ship itself. We only felt a slight movement going into corsica and even then it was nothing. Hubby suffers with seasickness but never bothered him at all. Take no notice of the bad reviews of her. Go on with an open mind and make the most of your own holiday. I think most of the bad reviews come from the older generation(not all older generation please don't take offence) . We had NOTHING to complain about. Ship was very modern, no tacky glitz thankfully, service almost perfect, v reasonable prices and absolutely no problem with the lift issue most like to carry on about. Go and enjoy...and enjoy you will.

  5. Which bar is that in please? Must give it a go.

All this talk about gin has forced me to the fridge for a small rhubard and ginger gin with fevour tree and it's only a Thursday night!

It was in the crows nest. Our waiter advised us of it and we obvs had to take his advice lol. Just ask when u get there. They were called northern, southern and I don't remember the third for obvious reasons...but I can highly recommend! Along with the Laverstoke cocktail. Delicious!

  6. Do they still do flights of gin? I'm sure I read previously somebody had a flight in the crows nest.

Yes they do. There were three different flights. We had to try them all just to taste test, then again, and again, and again...yum;p! And good value! £7 odd for 3 singles.

  7. Your husband clearly is a man who wants to look good and without being patronising I'm sure he wants to make an effort for you as well. When I read men moaning about Formal Nights and smart casual I often wonder if there wives are the same or whether they get dressed up and their husbands just don't bother.

Most people do make an effort. Apart from evening dresses and dinner suits I have seen ladies in saris (absolutely stunning) and plenty of men in full highland dress (I never take mine simply because of the weight).

Some of the young children I have seen on cruises look fantastic on Formal Nights. In my opinion they are a real credit to their parents. They don't all go about in football tops.

Incidentally I have no problem at all with chinos, they are far better than some of the cheap, ill-fitting baggy jeans that some wear.

I'm sure that no matter whether a child wear a "football shirt" or a suit, as long as they are well behaved and well mannered they would be a credit themselves and their parents. After all, a child is a child and should be allowed to be such. As long as they are comfortable and happy I'm sure no one will care. After all we no longer live in the days of bloomers and petty coats and it seems that the cruise company's are realising that and moving the dress code along with the times. Jeans are no longer associated with the days of wearing a hard wearing material that will last in the fields. They are and can be an expensive addition to any wardrobe. They look smart, feel good and are extremely versatile. Cruises are opening up to a younger generation thankfully, moving with the times. A cruise is not a holiday I even considered in the past due to their out of touch ways. But as they recognise their market is (naturally) decreasing they are aiming to the younger end. I personally am excited for my cruise on Sunday, and dressing my boys in their "football shirts", after all I know their manners and behaviour to be impeccable. They make me proud every minute of every day...no matter what they wear

  8. If I were you I wouldn't take the labels off and keep receipts. You will find what the website says and reality on board is vastly different. Your boys will be having so much fun in the children's club in their football kit they will barely have time to eat never mind follow a dress code. They do tea for children between 5pm-6pm in the buffet (a casual affair) which is usually busy after that it's back to the club with their new friends.

Don't worry about dress code you will find a very mixed bunch on board.

Thank you, that's reassuring. Just hope I have kept all the receipts and haven't wasted a lot of money!

  9. We also sail on britannia Sunday for our first cruise and I must admit the "dress code" has caused some worry. There are so many conflicting views on cruise critic. We have spent a lot of money on clothes for this cruise to ensure we stick by the dress code (which we could have done without). Especially for two boys who will not wear half the stuff we have bought them ever again. Mine are normal little boys who love nothing more than a comfy football kit! We are really looking forward to the cruise and I also look forward to writing my review with our "dress code" experiences to ensure that any families who read it in a similar position to us get a real view of what is acceptable or not.

  10. There are no daft questions foodie06, especially when it's your first cruise. Yes, they provide them with drinks, just water and maybe squash. Have to say I've never known it happen, but I guess they would put a call out over the tannoy, such as "Could Mrs Foodie06 please come to the kids' club?". When you register your child for the club they will tell you how they make contact with you if the child wants you or in an emergency. My children were in their teens when we started cruising, but they loved the club. Daughter is now too old, son is very happy that he will still be young enough (just) for our cruise this summer. The staff are lovely, very caring and make sure every child feels welcome, safe and included. I hope you have a wonderful cruise - it's very addictive!

Thank u so much for answer, that's good news. Had visions of us being up and down the kids club constantly. Hoping the boys enjoy it as much as yours did. They r very very excited...as am I haha! :D
