  1. DH & I took one Carnival cruise (Breeze) over Christmas. We were in a fancy suite and never ate in the MDR. I would say Carnival was not "our cup of tea" (brash and loud) but we still had a good time.

Years ago we went with our children on a carnival ship..it was new and we thought we might like it,.....it was awful. The food was inedible, the ship was loud and not our type of vacation or what I wanted my children to see or hear. It might have changed for the better. My family never returned. We have been on many lines, including celebrity, azamara, Hal, Cunard, rccl ,princess, Oceania, etc. we enjoyed almost all. I dont think I would suggest Carnival.

  2. Thanks for that great photo. Yes, this will be to celebrate my 70th. I figure we will be gone 31 days (retirement is good...). Hoping to fly to Melbourne and do a day trip to the Great Ocean Road, then fly to Sydney for a couple of days prior to the start of the GBR cruise. Celebrity does a 5 day RT to Melbourne prior to our GBR, but doesn't allow for doing the GBR and anything in Melbourne, plus then I'd have to add more days to see Sydney. Of course, this is MY plan....

I have wanted to go to Oz for almost as long as I have been married (currently 32 happy years). In addition to learning to swim and snorkel, I will probably have to learn hypnosis to use on Pete to get him to fly that distance - LOL. Piling up the frequent flier miles right now. I know he's going to love it. Good thing there are a number of sea days to give him some R&R. And I love the Corning Hot Glass shows, it's all good.

Keep on posting. I am loving this.

    Happy cruising.

Marilyn I found a compNy that will do. Full day in Melbourne and will do a city tour/ GBR. We are doing the Melbourne cruise so we can relax a bit and are planning a couple of days in Sydney first too....the planning will kill me...AND we are going to try to use frequent flier pts too...I hope

  4. Can anyone recommend agents that can use points and cash? I don’t think I’ll have enough air miles for Sydney. We need two tickets in business class in oct of 2019. I just cannot process this transfer thing and frankly do not mind paying a fee for someone e to do this. I don’t mind opening a credit card, but I don’t know which ones....help! A telephone number would be best as I would love to speak to a human. I have been successful on getting Cathy first on a few occasions a well as business through American, but again my bank is low. It appears that there are other options....

  5. Burma: I have been to all in S.E.A. and it's one out of the box. Like going back in time, the people and the culture, the food and the temples. Go now before it catches up with globalisation.

And of course Penang, where I live part of the time. People, food, UNESCO World Heritage city.

Can you recommend a private guide/ driver for a tour in Penang ? Since we will only be there for one day and do not enjoy ship tors...

    Thanks

    Karen

  6. Just returned yesterday on the Quest and was in room #7104....perfection. Quiet....elevators and launderette just a few yards away. would want to stay in the same room again.:p

We are in rm 7100, was wondering how it compares to this one? Thanks.

  7. I just returned from a land trip to Vietnam and have visited both places. I second the opinion that although I much prefer Hoian for a visit, it doesn't lend itself to a cruise stop. I think, as the above posters have mentioned that Hoian is a great place to wander, have clothing made and soak up the authentic feel of Vietnam. However from a cruise perspective, Hue is full of historical sights and you will get more from your one day of visiting.

  8. Since I am plannning a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand for next summer...I know heat and humidity, I am overwhelmed. I have cruised well over 50 times to other areas, but other than China, have had very little experience with Asia. I could use some advice here. I am looking for an experienced guide/driver in the cities, and countries I plan to visit. Since, I am always successful here, can somone offer some assitance with the pre-planning for me. I do appreciate any and all assistance.

  9. My personal gripe is not with the cruise director, but rahter the port lecturerer. I laugh because I read a post...on another board about an individual who accepted a job as mentioned above and didn't know what to do. He actually had the b...s to ask for suggestions. LOL! Imagine a newbie asking HIM for advice ! I cannot believe that a cruise line would hire such an idiot.

  10. I was on that WONDERFUL ship 5 times. As the Sitmar Fairsky and then as the sky Princess. I remember the service, the food and the wonderful Italian staff. We had a fabulous waiter one year...His name Mauritio. I heard that he eventually opened his own restaurant in Italy! Oh what fond memories! We still cruise...regularly, however I think it was different then.

  11. I don't understand someone complaining about everything they ate. I have been in 5 star restaurants and have found things that I didn't LOVE. I have been on over 30 cruises from the"best" to the supposed "worst" I loved everyone of them Quite frankly, if I don't have to cook it, clean up after it or plan it...I AM HAPPY!
