We went on Celebrity last Nov. Athens to Abu Dhabi - never again on a large ship! Viking does everything right in my opinion: great cabins, nice bathrooms w/heated floors! ,fantastic food - even at the buffet, good service, and so many nooks & crannies that you never felt like there were hundreds of people aboard, except when MDR opened. Loved free wine & excursions.

I just booked 3 weeks, May 6 2-week Spring Crossing, Singapore to Bali, then a week May 20 Bali eastbound. Booked through a travel agent who gave me a nice cabin credit... which will help that single supplement some! Am searching for flights, from Austin, thinking the two hop - Aus - San Fran - Singapore - looks the best, nasty long flights but thinking business class might be required!! I know this will be all new itinerary for them and the first time so it might be a bit rocky, but I think May is better than Oct to avoid the rainy season. Anyone else on crossing or that first week in Bali?? G
We will be on that flight. Looking forward to it with a few days after in Bali.

We took them up on their offer of free air in Jan. to St. Martin - about $1,000 pp! They send us from SFO-Miami non-stop & then Miami-St. Martin. I've taken other lines air & you *do* need to check/explain what you do & don't want because they will take the cheapest fares usually.

We did the RT Phuket last March & wish we had signed on for 2 weeks. This is, as many of you know, a very water-oriented line, so most of the beaches were great, esp. Koh Samui. We have been on 9 cruises with them & are doing the Singapore-Bali in 2018. If Arnold is on your ship, sit at "his" tables; you'll have fantastic service!

Coming out of and returning to Barbados the sea is pretty consistently very rough. I have learned to mostly pack during the day before disembarkation. They did come around with meds.

We went to the museum *after* a tour of a site near Pompei. We had a guide in the museum, which was really helpful because there are so many wonderful things. We spent more than 2 hrs. there & felt we had covered the highlights but only because we had the guide.
Going to Positano or Sorrento could be a big mistake. Our tour group went to Ravello, stopping above Positano, but the traffic was horrendous & we got back 2 hours later than expected!

So what the heck happened? I have not read about any of this. Being an American, they weren't marketing these cruises to us anyway.

Jobake is correct; the ship arrives very early.
We like to spend the day on the island (whichever one it is), so we don't start the long flight home tired from an early morning.

It can be *very* rough sailing to & from Barbados because you are in open water. We usually have been cruising in January & it was rough enough to have people seasick.
I recommend something (pills, patch) for seasickness. Also, there is a bar you can raise so you don't fall out of bed as my DH did the last time we were aboard! Why they don't tell you about it is a mystery & we've been on 7 cruises with them, both in the Caribbean & the Med.

Hi, Folks,
I'd love some current info about any of the following islands: Isla Margarita, Isla La Blanquilla, Isla de Coche, & Isla Testigo Grande. Any comments welcome, esp. excursions, safety, etc.

There are currently no tours listed in the shore excursions for our March 2, 2014 HAL cruise. Anyone with ideas? Might the hotel have any tours?

Hi, Cool Cruiser,
We will be on the Jan. 17th cruise/tour. Which date did you book?

Hi, DD@Sea,
What type of cabin did you have? We were thinking of the lowest deck with only a porthole. Did you see a cabin like that; there are *no* pictures in either the small or large AMA brochure.
Has anyone stayed in one of those cabins - category C?

Hi, Jean6060,
We are planning on the land/cruise on 1/17/2012. Let me know if you choose that booking. We are travelling with 2 women friends who are inveterate tracellers.
I am also interested in 1 night pre & post.

Does Star Clipper give you times you will be in port

I, too, have been annoyed at the lack of arrival/departure times on Star Clipper cruises although we have done 8!
Go to the purser's office & ask them to look it up for you. They *have* to book a spot to dock or anchor in each port, with arrival & departure times, so they know!
