  1. Firstcruiser, THANKS!! Do you know what company you used? I was looking into ANTOURS.

    Pay It Forward. Be kind.

yes it was them with the pool also for a total of 5 hours

  2. We are debating doing the river tubing and emerald pool excursion in Dominica vs a more complete tour of the islands and skipping the tubing. We've read some good and bad reviews, wondering if anyone has been recently on either a ship tour or a private tour? I understand there's two rivers for tubing, anyone done both? Which is better? How far of a ride is it to the river? And do you get to go down at your own pace or do you have to stop often and wait for people to catch up?

Would love to see your pics and hear your stories. Thanks so much

    Hi,

We actually did the same tour last week and we loved it...there were 6 of us in the group but they don't let anyone get to far ahead of the group, so at some points we were all together just floating.......but more rapids than floating....it was great and we would do it again !!! We also went into the pool and the water was not as cold as I expected...that was beautiful also...the whole tour for both places took 5hrs....it was a good 1/2 hour ride into the mountains for the pool which we did first. I also don't know the name of the river as we were not told and we didn't know there was more than one tubing site.

where in CT due you go tubing??? I am next door in RI....:)

  3. My husband and I will be in Dominica and we are looking for an excursion and are thinking of Tubing, has anyone ever done this and how was it?

    Pay It Forward. Be kind.

Just returned last week from cruising and LOVED the tubing, there were 6 of us and we had a blast......we would do it again !!!! the guys helped us down the river and we had refreshments afterwards. We also went to the natural pool with the tubing.......I would definitely recommend it.......enjoy !!!!

  4. IMHO, take an excursion. The port area is primitive. There is some open air shopping but not as much as on other islands. It is ok for a walk around but it won't be more than an hour or two and you'll be missing a beautiful interior island.

    Karen

Thanks for your response........we are taking an excursion on the island but we wanted to know about the "shopping" in town to plan our time spent there......lolol

  5. My family and I will be on an RCCL cruise this spring stopping in Barbados. My daughter is a full time wheelchair user. RCCL doesn't offer any accessible excursions. Is there much to do and see right around the dock? Or does anyone know of any accessible transportation on the island?

We were in Barbados last year in February. The "port" is in a ship container port. Our Princess ship was one of the furthest ones out so we had to take a "bus" to the little place where the shops were. The shops were kind of high end stores with a few locals in the very back and one restaurant/bar also in the back. The taxis are kept outside of this area and can be reached by walking to the gate and getting one. They are not allowed inside the area of the cruiseport. I would do an internet search for Barbados tours and email a bunch of the people and ask for a tour around and see if any of the vans are handicap accessible.... there is nothing itself there in port...that is just my opinion....:)

    Good luck

  6. We are looking for a driver that can accommodate a family of 8 to take us to emerald falls, screws spa, and perhaps t. gorge for the day we are in port. Suggestions and contact info would be most appreciated.

    Jan

We found our driver on the internet....do a search for Dominica tours and you can email them and ask them about how much and tell them where you want to go

we are a party of 6 and have our own driver for the day to go to the emerald pool & one of the falls and tubing for about 5 or so hours......

I will have to ask my sister who she is using but I know she found them on the internet and if you do a search get a few prices as some islands are hundreds of dollars away from each other on private tours.....really !!!

    Mary

  7. Been there several times - most recently last month. Cruise port is right in the center of town. Shops, restaurants are all right there. I really enjoyed walking around.

Thanks so much I appreciate it.

So I guess there is something there in port....:))

  8. Hi,

First time going to Dominica in February 2014.

Would like to know what it is like around the cruise port ...

shops, restaurants, bars/lounges, free wifi, what is good to buy, etc.....

Is this a "big" area such as St. Kitts or small like St. Lucia or Barbados?

    btw...is there a "Harley" store....lol...??

    Thanks,

    Mary

  9. QUOTE=pghsteelerfan;41210037]On our cruise last May we wanted to go to Bathsheba/Harrison's Cave area but were told a taxi for the two of us would be $80.00. At the time we weren't thinking that could have been Barbados dollars which would be about $40.00 USD. It was later confirmed here on Cruise Critic from someone else that it was $80.00 USD. We went with "Plan B" and ended up spending time at the Barbados Hilton. There was another thread a while back (the one where $80.00 USD was confirmed) that mentions a bus that goes there for much cheaper. If we ever get back, I think we will do this next time. I'm attaching the link for you. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the info....

  10. Hi,

we are interested in going to Harrison cave & Bathsheba beach. Does anyone know how much a taxi might cost for 6 people to go??

Someone wrote $70 for 2 people to Bathsheba beach by taxi...???

I don't see any excursions from my ship to Harrison caves nor do I know how far either is from the cruise port....

    Any help?

    Thanks,

  11. Hi

We are in St Kitts for one day from 7am to only 3pm. Some in our group of six want to go to the Batik Store at Romney Manor and others want to go to Cockleshell Beach. So we would like to try to go to both. I have been to both places before and it seems to me that they are on opposite ends of the island. Does anyone know of a taxi driver we could hire to get us to both places in the same day? I had used a local driver on our last trip there but have misplaced his name. Does anyone familiar with the island think this is "do-able"? Thanks in advance,

    Nancy

    Hi Nancy:

Batik Store is great..just don't forget your sisters while you are shopping there...:) South Friars beach sounds nice and it is closer to the ship .....I wonder how much a chaise and stuff costs??

  12. Hi,

We were wondering what information we could receive regarding the gorge?

We know it is "cool" water, 70 degrees or so, that is fine we are from the northeast...lol

How far of a swim is it from whatever brings you there, I don't believe that you do this from shore? life preservers??

Is there anything in the gorge like something to jump into the water?

How long do you stay there?

    How deep is the water?

What tour people would be the best?

    Thanks,

Cruising in February on the Equinox...........yay !!!

  13. Hey Steve

I was looking at the same excursion only end of January on Celebrity.

I would love the ride and thought that the sandbar 360 degree view sounded great.

I also understand that the drinks are EXPENSIVE and probably will be on the island also.

Hopefully someone with knowledge will answer this thread and not just someone looking to type something.

    Have a great cruise................

  14. Paul I love your pixs, thank you... it is helping me alot... do you have to pay for the solarium, because I love it already.... is it not crowded??

    Thanks, Mary

I loved the room and I'm sure you will too. Here is the balcony. The X doesn't cover much. BTW, did they do the big X on the Equinox and Eclipse? I don't remember seeing it in the Equinox pictures. If you click on the picture, it will take to to my whole Solstice album and more pics of the room and ship.

  15. Thank you all so much for your pictures and comments. The balconies look alot smaller than those on Royal Caribbean(Adventure). I really appreciate it.

So far we have checked with the travel agent and there are not 2 hump cabins together on any of the 3 floors we are looking at.

I wonder how much the hump's are blocking the view for the cabins next to them on either side???

    Thanks again,

    Mary

  16. Hi,

Thinking of booking on the Solstice for next year and have seen that there is a hump on the balcony cabins towards the back of the ship on every floor.

Is it better to get a balcony cabin where it sticks out of the ship and which floor is the best for the best balcony cabins.

I guess according to the picture of the ship you can not see from one end of the ship to the other unless you are part that sticks out? Very confusing.

Does anyone know of a good website to see really good pictures of the balcony cabins on this ship (not good on their website)?

We are probably interested in the Vista or Panorama decks.

    Thanks:cool:

  17. Hi,

We are going to Cozumel first week of March, we are doing a tour in the morning and want to go to a beach sort of near the port and shopping. We are not interested in the all day beaches as this will only be 1/2 a day in the afternoon. We have to leave time for the shopping. How much would the taxi, chairs, etc. be?? and is there such a beach

    Thanks, M.A.
