  1. Lots of great discussion but I guess there are no adult only cruises except the nudest ones which is too bad I think Celebrity is missing out, I think if they offered adult only cruises they might sell out.

We have only done one Celebrity cruise with almost no kids and every day we were in the solarium and there would be one kid that would sneak in and swim quietly until someone would complain and the kid had to leave so it kind of defeated the whole adults only vibe.

Not sure if Virgin is for us but it is appealing for the Adults only.

  2. We were just on Princess and we found the food very salty in the dining room as Celebrity so not sure if its just a dining room issue on these cruises. We found the food in Blu to be less salty so If you can do Aqua its worth it for that (our opinion).

  3. We have been on one Celebrity and one Princess so its not as much experience as most people on these forums.

    Celebrity Equinox 2017 (Aqua)
    Princess Discovery 2022 (Balcony)

Ships are very similar, staff all great, service great, entertainement similar, food choices similar, fitness choices the same. Most of the time you would most likely not notice if you were on a Princess or Celebrity cruise. In our opinion

    Celebrity

    Pro
    Food quality slight edge
    Wine quality by far
    Embarkation/Debarkation very smooth
    Aqua Class (Blue resturant)

    Con
    Internet
    No self laundry
Covered Adult pool (which allows kids sometimes)

    Princess

    Pros
    Self service Laundry
Free food seems so much better like pizza for example
Adult pool is outside and no kids allowed

    Cons
    Embarkation/Debarkation not great
    Wine at the bars
    Internet

I'm currently on Apex on a warm weather itinerary, and the Solarium pool is open daily for family time.

So there is no Adult pool then, sad. We only sailed on Celebrity once and just got back from a Princess cruise but thought we might like Celebrity again but having some sort of an Adult pool area like Princess is a show stopper.

If I might ask, can you explain why you thought the steak at Sur la Mer was better that the steak at Crown Grill?

Did the Crown Grill first and I it was dry, I was surprised as it seemed like a good cut. The next night I had the same steak at Sur la Mer and it was not dry.

Maybe it was luck of the draw and if I went back to Crown Grill it would not be dry.

  6. Ship Discovery

    Class NA

    Deck Sun 17

    Cabin #S217

    Category BC

    Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern Bow Stern

    Connects With Cabin # NA

    Accessible NA

Quiet Yes unless its 6am and they are throwing the deck chairs around as they arrange all the loungers for the day (Every morning). They are not quiet about it so it was a daily alarm. We would never book this room again for this reason.

    Balcony Size Standard

    View Non-Obstructed (Great view)

    Privacy Issues No issues

Wind Lots of wind on sea days

Soot No at front of ship

Problems As mentioned the very loud lounge chair placing EVERY morning at 6am. Literately throwing the chairs around and dragging them in place.

    Comments

If it wasn't for the the 6am wake up call a really great room location beside the adult pool and just a short walk to the main pool. You are very close to the Retreat  Retreat Bar (when its open) and Sanctuary and several hot tubs.

  7. Just got off Discovery 7night and we had plus and like red wine. We are not wine snobs.

Our experience at the bars was the wine was bad, really bad and in one case the bottle had gone bad. We found the wine in specialty a bit better and the Main Dining room seemed to more drinkable wine. The only issue being by the time you got the wine you were well into your dinner.

Then we decided to start trying the premium wines and they were better overall but while dining we found it almost embarrassing as the server would make a big production that we were Plus and wanted Premium and went on about it. Wow just give me my wine please and bill me.

  8. Just got off the Mexican R 7 day and well you won't be working from the ship. I have worked in high tech for 15 years (On the very technical side) and you can get emails and txt ok but beyond that good luck!

It was slightly better when near a coast but when your on the open ocean its pretty bad.

My wife did a few speed tests and she got 2.8Mbps downloads and 2.1 uploads. on average.

I agree.  I was on Discovery last month and was really disappointed in the Crown but my steak was perfect in La Mer.  I'll be back on Discovery in Feb and have already booked La Mer for the first night as well!  (It's also my birthday and that is where I want to celebrate it!)

Exact same experience, I liked the steak much better at la Mer.

  10. Just got off Saturday and all seemed fine, they had someone posted at all the buffet entrances instructing people to wash their hands. Someone told me that there were over 1000 kids the Thanksgiving week that might have helped cause the issue. On our cruise I could count the kids on both hands.

Sanctuary was fully booked when my wife rushed up there on embarkation but it ended up being sweater/coat weather the first and last day so empty those days. I don't think it was every fully booked as it seemed to be a lot of empty chairs.

  11. We just got off Discovery 7Night and my wife rushed up on embarkation and all sea days were already gone (loungers) and was able to get one day in port however they were in the sun. If you want a Gazebo you can pretty well book those anytime as far as I could tell. Our room is underneath so I checked it out the days were were not doing excursions.

  12. We just got off Discovery 7night.

Pre-cruise I didn't want to pre-book anything as I had on-board credit waiting for me and were worried from all the posts about being booked full.

Ends up we walked up each night we did specialty and didn't wait more than 5 minutes for a seat, it was great. Our first Princess cruise so we have no special ranking.

First night Sabatini's, then next night Crown Grill, then 2 nights at Bistro Sur La Mer and One Gastro Salty Pub.

  13. Just got back from the 7day Discovery and no Let-it-Ride and no Caribbean Poker which was a let down. BlackJack, 3 card poker and Roulette were on all the time and 5 buck min which I could not believe, saw the craps table open once. At the no dealer poker table they had no limit Caribbean poker most nights and Tourneys on Sea days.

Smoke wasn't bad they do a good job but you sure know when your near the casino with the smell.

  14. Just got back and yes the responses pretty well matched your comments. We got lucky the LA departure (Sat 3rd) ended up swimming and laying out in the sun before departure in the mid afternoon but then that night and the next day it was sweaters and coats forcing most people inside. Once at Cabo it was 80's and all sun. The last day coming back up the coast it was back to sweaters and coats for most.
