I haven't tried booking anything lately.  I've been sailing with Princess for my last three cruises, but I don't relish the idea of having to eat all my meals by myself (I believe they will seat you by yourself in the dining room, but no table sharing with strangers) or not being able to join a trivia team.

Does anyone know the dining and social distancing policies for the mainstream and "premium" cruise lines?  (Luxury isn't in my budget.)

  2. Sure that's a Courtyard and not Country Inn & Suites?

Yes, if you look it up, it’s right off 10 and the Causeway. I believe it is very close to Country Inn and Suites, but I was mistaken, they do not offer transportation, it is the Country Inn and Suites which I am staying at in February for my Vision of the Seas cruise.

I booked them at different times, and the date I needed in April was more expensive at the Country Inn, I don’t need the transportation in April as I’m taking my 82 yr old mother on her second cruise, and she requires a scooter, which I bring with me.

  3. Many oxygen providers offer loaner portable concentrator for vacation. You usually have to reserve it and give a return date. I did that for my mothers first cruise last February. My problem on theirs, the battery only lasted a couple of hours even set on 1, with a long recharge time. So check it out ahead of time and give it a test run. We since bought the Inogen One G2, which will last 8 to 11 hours on 2, but is larger than the new G4, which did not meet our needs.

  4. We are staying at the Courtyard New Orleans Metairie. It offers free parking and transportation to the port, must as for their stay and cruise package. It has a large mall .2 miles away with a Cafe du Monde in it. It is away from the French Quarter, but looks like right off a main road so easy on/off.

  5. Thanks Bob. I don't mind tipping but I don't like giving up control who I think deserves my tips either. I grew up in a time when you earned your tip before it was paid.

If you have bad service by someone, say your dining crew, you can go to the service desk and have them removed or it lowered for just them, toward the end of your cruise. I know Carnival splits theirs up, steward and helpers, dining staff, and then pieces goes to ones such as staff in the buffet, laundry, cleaning staff (ones that pick up trash, dishes, etc left by guests, sweeps etc. ones that do not get a slice is room service . I always leave my tip, but I keep in mind I can remove it for a bad or rude steward or dining staff, which I have never had yet. One below the usual above and beyond I usually get, but no one bad or rude.

  6. Actually this board has been more helpful than the other ones at this point. But I'm hoping that in time I'll get some good suggestions on those boards as well.

It can be a long walk to the dining rooms, the lido deck eating areas, if he cant walk far with a walker, it might be worth bringing or renting a scooter to be delivered to the ship. The regular rooms are only 21 inches wide, 20 inches available with the door in the way, most walkers have to be folded up in order to fit through the room. There are 3 types of handicap accessible cabins, one ambulatory with grab bars etc, but a 2-4 inch step to get into the bathroom. Then a partially handicap accessible where if one heavily relies on a scooter/wheelchair, or a fully accessible for someone that cannot walk at all.

My mother is extremely limited but could manage the little step, my dh is in a wheel chair and meets the other two categories.

Linking your cabins is a good idea. Now, the faster to the fun option should have your room ready when you board, the only time mine was not I went to the desk and complained it was rushed, and I was credited the amount but still got to have the privildges of the pass for the duration of the cruise.
