  1. We tried the De Librije on the Eurodam last November so my review might be a little out of date but I wanted to give you some of the details I recall.

The total cost was a bit high upfront but it included very generously poured wine with each course which I thought made the price quite reasonable. There were quite a few white wines and a sparkling to start. I think there was also a red. Thanks to the previously mentioned generous pours my memory is not the best.

Our menu was predominantly seafood; scallops, lobster, seared bass, and cod with shrimp. There were also choices of foie gras, pork belly and duck. Each course was excellently prepared and uniquely creative. I was very impressed with the presentation of each course. Some were more to my taste than others but I could still appreciate the quality of those that were not my particular favorites. I thought the portions were quite generous and had trouble finishing dessert but gave it a valiant effort.

Overall I thought it was a great experience and was very glad we tried it. Oh and big shout out to the Eurodam Pinnacle staff that did an incredible job on the service, they really made it a special evening.

  2. Hi, wondering if anyone on the 6/27 Veendam Bermuda cruise is checking the boards.

My Parents are onboard and today is Mom's 81st birthday. I've already sent a gift through ship services that would have arrived at embarkation but was wishing I could get her a message today. Ship services said only emergency emails.

Any chance someone onboard would be willing to put a note on her door (June - in stateroom 420- deck 6) to let her know her daughter is thinking of her on her Birthday?

I would be so grateful. I'm missing my Mom today.

  3. I have a few of the painted dutch hats from years ago too. I also have a few pieces of origami the bar staff used to always make us. A rabbitt, a frog and several shirts made out of the blue and white bar slips.

I think I even have a few of the old toiletry bottles and boxes with the pictures of the old ships and dutch girls. I used to love the comfrey and ginseng soaps and lotions. Does anyone else remember those?

  4. Cruise prices were higher back then, as a %age of most peoples' incomes. Dinner in the MDR was an event, with all sorts of wonderful choices. The key cards are different. VERY different. Back then we had to sign for everything. My first cruise was on the (former) Westerdam, the MDR windows were (IIRC) actually portholes, well above line-of-sight. Again, IIRC, no stabilizers. No auto-tips. The bread pudding on HAL was substantially better than it is now. Baked Alaska parade, with flames ;) People were generally more dressed up, regardless of time of day. Cherries Jubilee and Bananas Foster were available. Again IIRC formal nights were French banquet service.

You do remember correctly, the former Westerdam ( our third cruise) had portholes for windows in the dining room.

I think HAL ships were beautiful then and still are today. I think they have retained their classic, elegant feel from yesterday while keeping current with the ammenities expected today.

  5. It's just one static cover image, audio only. I had a heck of time finding this one when I downloaded. The other HAL ship art tours I downloaded show up in my Audiobooks on iTunes while this one is under Podcasts.

I enjoy the tours and always learn a lot.

  6. We stayed at Hotel 1898 on La Rambla. Doesn't satisfy your shuttle option, but cabs are plentiful.

    Comfortable hotel. Great city!

+1 for the Hotel 1898, great location, excellent service and amazing rooms. A little pricey but loved it.

  7.

I know this is an older post but wanted to say Thank You for these suggestions....a few I had not seen before and think will work perfectly for us.:)
