We did a 2 day pre with Viking in Barcelona.  Arrival time was too late to do anything except dinner.  Second day we used Barcelona Day Tours for an all day private excursion.  We saw and stopped for photos of all Gaudi's structures as I am a fan, went to Montserrat Abbey, toured La Sagrada Familia with Skip the Line tickets and an audio guide, toured Parc Gruell.  Embarkation day we were out of our hotel rooms and off on a Viking excursion for the morning reaching the ship around 1 pm.  Viking provided a shuttle which dropped people off at the head of the Ramblas.  Our cruise left that night.

Thank you. This is very helpful.

  2. Mediterranean Odyssey cruise questions re: Barcelona. We have a Viking pre-extension in Barcelona for 2 nights (9/12-9/13/2024) before we go to the ship for one night (9/14) and set sail the 2nd night (9/15).

*How does the transfer to the ship in Barcelona work?
*How much time in Barcelona will we have on the transfer day (9/14)? Do we transfer in the morning or afternoon?

*How far away is the cruise terminal? Is there other port options from Barcelona?

*For those who have done the Mediterranean Odyssey Cruise with the Barcelona pre-extension, how did you schedule your time there?  Are there Viking excursions you would recommend? What sites and activities would we be best to schedule on our own? If so, links?
    TIA! 💃

  3. We last sailed Carnival in September 1981 on our honeymoon. I was able to get credit for myself, but not my husband (go figure!). I have a dated Carnival picture of us as we boarded which I sent to our Carnival PVP, who ignored my email ([emoji15]). Bringing the photo and DH of 35 1/2 years on our July Magic cruise and hope to get it settled on board. Funny in a surreal sort of way...

  4. Whenever we fly to Florida we fly Spirit from Atlantic City because of convenience. I am not a fan, but with relatives in Florida, it is an easier flight than driving to Philly. We've never had a horrible experience, just find their policies annoying. We belong to their $9 club and credit card, so have been able to get flights on points and reduced bag fees. However, their baggage policies are beyond annoying. Your checked bag cannot be more than 40lbs, compared to everyone else's 50lbs. Carry on personal item size was recently reduced so the rolling bag I purchased because it fit their requirement, no longer is an option. We never do, but if you want to fly with a carry on bag and your free personal item, you pay, pay, pay for that carry on bag. We have reserved flights with them in JuJuly for our cruise... Hoping no staffing issues by then (thought that was over?).

As long as they are reliable (no staffing issues) and you can fly within their restrictive baggage policies, we have not had any problems. Just minor annoyances.

  5. The Hub app doesn't have anything to do with basic internet access. In fact, you can use most of the Hub app's features without even purchasing one of the internet plans. Features like deck plans, Fun Times activities & shows, access to your S&S account, etc. If you want to use the chat feature of the Hub app, you have to pay a $5 fee that covers the entire cruise. That chat feature is only for communicating between passengers using the Hub app itself and everyone who wants to use chat has to pay the $5 fee.

As far as the Social plan, more than one person can access the internet with one purchased plan, but everyone else has to be logged off. So in your case, only one of you will be able to log into facebook at a time. If your husband wants to use the same Social plan, you have to log out of the plan first, then he can log in and access his facebook.

Thank you! That is very helpful.

  6. I have owned a business during my working life. Simply put, if I can not trust my staff, then I've hired the wrong people.

When you don't know a person's specific situation, please don't judge others by yours and I won't judge your situation by mine.

I aked a specific questions about the social media package, which as you have said would never apply to you, so there is no need to respond just to be snarky.

To others reading this, please excuse my own snarkiness it is not directed toward you.

  7. Meh.

I do not schlep the laptop with me, and the phone is locked in the safe for the duration of the cruise as soon as we get to the cabin.

    Cruising = "Off the grid."

Unfortunately, when you own a small business and leave family at home, some contact is necessary. Everyone's situation is different. You're lucky you can turn it all off.

  8. Carnival Social Package question. DH and I just need one social package to keep in touch with our business and son. If we both sign into the same Facebook account from each of our devices, this should work, correct? Or would we have to sign into the same account on the HUB app? Is there any reason this wouldn't work? I don't want to pay double if we can just share for the duration of the cruise.
