Well the  one we went to on the Prima last month was "nothing special". It was in the observation lounge and believe me it is far from a "cocktail party". It is simply meeting the caption and his crew, have a few drinks and some cheese and crackers. If you have the beverage package then it's even less of a big deal. However, we did enjoy relaxing by the windows and having a glass of cheap champagne. :classic_biggrin:

Well that's disappointing. It used to be more than that. Guess I'll skip it... it really doesn't sound appealing.

I use the app too.  I’m not being cheeky or rude but the Freestyle Daily shows up every day in the app. (To be honest, the Latitudes parties aren’t that fun anymore. I’ve never missed one and after each one I ask myself why I went.)

I just go for the free drinks and nibbles but... I already have the beverage package so one has to wonder...       Used to be they had a band and it was less a sales pitch and more a social event. Not sure I'll go on my upcoming cruise but maybeeee...

If they contract a violinist like Lindsey Stirling, then I'd be happy! I'd take watching her perform over any of the shows currently on the ship. Likely not going to happen as she's actually a well-known performer. Does NCL get well-known performers? Except for folks like Katy Perry (why didn't anyone warn NCL she can't sing live - and I love me some "Teenage Dream" or "Waking up in Vegas" if it's the studio version)!

And, more shows like Broadway Unplugged (if sung live) would be nice. I'd definitely watch that, as well.

But really, a few solo acts that are on Lindsey's level would be somewhat excited. I don't really cruise for the entertainment, though. I did enjoy "Footloose" and "Million Dollar Quartet," but I sure don't cruise for them.

I would go out of my way to take extra time off work and book a cruise if Lindsey was on it! She's incredible!

We didn't get our invitation on our Joy sailing last week. 🤔

I don't recall ever receiving an invitation... oh wait, yes, I did once. BUT... if you hit up the CruiseNext desk by 9pm embarkation night, they'll tell you when and where... along with the ship tour and other Latitude perks events.

This is my first time being eligible for the cocktail party at silver? What exactly is the dress code? do I need an actual cocktail dress or would a business casual pant and shirt be appropriate?

I want to echo what's already been said... NCL is very relaxed and there's no need to dress up. I wore a nice pair of jeans and a nice top to all of the ones I've attended and didn't feel out of place. That being said, some people prefer to dress up a little bit so you will probably see some who are less casual. Basically, it's all good except for perhaps ultra-casual tank tops or swimsuits and the like. I try for "business casual" but leaning more to the casual side.

Thanks to those who were sympathetic.

My agent has escalated it to the European Helpdesk team who have extended the date by 1 week so all is fine.

Kudos to your TA! Some of them just won't fight on behalf of their clients... glad yours did! That's a keeper!

I had a similar situation with a 10% FCC that I was able to get extended for a month.

Do not bother going through your TA.  I've tried that many times for assorted requests and each time my TA was denied.  I then go directly to NCL and usually have gotten my reasonable request granted (to my TA's surprise).  The key is that the request be fair and reasonable which I feel this is.

I also always e-mail as I feel a request made in writing is better than explaining myself over and over to different people at NCL on the phone... many of whom do not have the authority to make the decision any way.

A brief, extremely polite request to Katty Bird outlining the issues and requesting the reasonable accommodation usually works for me.  I had an answer agreeing to the FCC request I outlined above within a day.

It never hurts to ask... Good luck!

The trouble with going over your TA's head is that many cruise lines will NOT talk to the actual passenger if the cruise is booked through a travel agent. I'm not sure if this is the case for NCL, as when I was a TA, I never had a situation that I couldn't resolve for a client, but I know for other cruise lines, they just won't work with the client. HOWEVER, as you say, it NEVER hurts to ask! I certainly would do so... and then if I got a favorable resolution, find a better travel agent 😄

I'll start by saying we are Sapphire latitudes around 1 cruise off Diamond level and are loyal (up to now) NCL cruisers.

We were given FCCs of £600 each that we had to use by a year from our previous cruise.  Due to work and family commitments we were struggling to find something but there is a cruise that leaves 2 days after that deadline. Our travel agent didn't think that a big deal but has contacted several depts in NCL and escalated it but NCL says no.

I could understand if I was asking for months or even weeks extension but this is TWO days. What difference does it really make?

I work for an airline, we are far more flexible bending the rules for our higher levels frequent flyers as we recognise loyalty but that doesn't seems to apply to NCL sadly.

We love the service and experience we get onboard but very disappointed that NCL won't accommodate (what we think is) a very small adjustment.

No, you are NOT being unreasonable! I am surprised that NCL said no because I was in a very similar situation and my travel agent went to bat for me and NCL went for it. I'm rather disappointed to hear that a fellow Sapphire member (I'm also just shy of Diamond level) got turned down in this situation. I don't have any sage advice for you, unfortunately... but no, you're not being unreasonable!

You are booking what is considered a new cruise, not changing, therefore the new rules apply.

However, IF you booked through a travel agent, they  *might* be able to finagle it, depending on their agency's relationship with the cruise line.... I was able to get NCL to fudge a bit on their policies for clients in the past when I was a TA. It's a bit of a stretch, but they've been good about a lot of things. Recently, my own TA got them to accept a CruiseNext certificate when technically it was too late to apply it... (I love my TA... she will FIGHT for her clients like I used to do and that's awesome!)

  10. This is an interesting thread. I have a couple of questions:

For those that bring ALOT of tech items, do they all need to be plugged in all at the same time; it appears that's what people are saying? If so, why is that?

For those saying they pretty much get away with bringing and using a device with a surge protector and knowing what you now know, you may be responsible for a fire onboard. Will you step up and accept responsibility for the fire or will you blame the cruise line? IMO getting away with something that may harm others appears to be self serving.

    Safe cruising all!!

I have a laptop for work, hubby has a tablet for work, we each have cameras, both have mobile phones and Gear watches. Since we need the rule about disconnecting everything when we are not in the cabin, we can only charge when we are actually there, so yes, it all must be charged at once. My power strip etc has no surge protection.

We truly do need our tech as we work while we travel... if we weren't, we wouldn't need so much. We're are trying to work within the rules to get our work done while still being safe.

  11. We are just off the Jewel. Like many many others we packed a multi plug adapter in our case. All the cases with these in were confiscated. I had to join what seemed to be about half the ship to go and collect my case and have the adapter confiscated.

I have been getting tips from other CC users and to take one was a tip I picked up - but we warned on the Jewel you will have it confiscated and if your case is not locked they will open the case and take it out.

We just boarded the Jewel today and I'm pleased to say that my travel power converter/plug strip made it through without question. I had to bring it for the portion of our trip leading up to our cruise departing from Yokohama.

Be that as it may, I will note that security seemed more lax than usual, so that may be why I skated by with it in my hand luggage. Just hope I cans get it home on our trans-Pacific going home in May :D :D:D
